Both music for both games are epic in their own way. ME 1 was a fresh new experience so the music made the universe feel grand and large. like a fantasy *which it is* and come ME 2, weve all seen the universe and now were visiting the old boat once again but for a new more dangerous reason, to save the galaxy or die trying.

ME 1 was more adventure while ME 2 was more action with a side of adventure on a more darker scale

Well some of my friends and people on Youtube mentioned how much better the original's soundtrack was. Anyone else feel the same way? I'm hoping the third will deliver on this front like the first one did. I mean, Suicide Mission is alarmingly addictive to listen to (listening to it now by the way), but that's really the only one from Mass Effect 2.

It was the whole electronic aspect to the first game's soundtrack that made it better in my opinion. Orchestral is all well and good, I just don't think it was the right direction for ME2 to take. In fact, you could say it was too epic for it's own good. In the quiet moments in ME1 (like the section leading up to Vigil (heavy bass heartbeats)) it was almost calming. When it got quiet in ME2, I'm thinking "Crap, what's going to happen now?"

Both are great and have their strengths and weaknesses. Both have two different souls. You don't want both soundtracks to sound the same, do you? ME2 had great tracks too, different, but great. For example, during Tali's recruitment mission, the track that plays when you are ambushed after getting the second demo charge is one of the best fight tracks IMO.

I really can't decide. Both were exemplary. And both were different, which I think is a good thing. More of the same, even at the same quality, would have been less impressive for ME2.

I didn't really feel the music in ME1. It was just there for me, ambience. While in ME2, I really thought the soundtrack was great and added more depth to the cinematics.

My favorite music in ME1 is the c-sec theme. (Feels like 80s sci-fi)

My favorite ME 2 music is Mordins theme. (Love it, always gets me in the mood.)

Funny thing is, I never paid attention to any background music. I mean i knew it was there but to busy with the story (the shooting, and the punching) to really care. Side note though "I thought it would be really cool to have our own personalized radio station in Sheps room and headset while killing baddies

Both soundtracks are great, but I do agree that the ME1 soudntrack was supperior in alot of respects due to the electronic style thats et it apart from other soundtracks and of course the abient tracks made the game feel alrger than than life at times.

Here are a few examples...

Mass Effect's score was, in my humble opinion, a far more encompassing piece of work than Mass Effect 2 could muster. Perhaps the by comparison rather disembodied narrative contributed to that; but I never quite found the tunes of ME2 to hold the same sense of harmonious fusion with the context to which it was applied.

Certainly nothing as ambient as the Presidium theme.

That said, the soundtrack of ME2 has a few bright spots. Both Mordin's and Thane's themes were very nicely merged with their respective appearances.

I'll raise you a "Noveria"...

Imho thought ME1's soundtrack mostly sounded supeficially ambient, whereas ME2's soundtrack actually sounded like a movie score which was epic and deeper emotionally. It was probably easier to score ME2 because it's more cinematic, therefore the music flowed better.

ME2's soundtrack was different. As Awesome said, it was more like a movie score and maybe more appropriate, but ME's music has that nostalgic vibe that's simply unforgettable.

Tough call for me. ME1's does have some more variation and more atmospheric music, but ME2's has a few songs I really, really dig as well. Pretty close... I find it hard to pick.

I think Mass Effect's was more unique, but that doesn't mean it's better. There's a reason a lot of movie soundtracks sound similar, it's because after decades of making films we've figured out the best sounds for evoking emotions in the audience. Mass Effect 2's score, while still unique, did a better job of adding emotional depth to the game.

That's why my favourite ME1 tracks were the less 'unique' tracks, like 'Exit', 'Sovereign's Theme', the main theme, 'From the Wreckage' and 'Spectre Induction'. The more electronic tracks like Virmire Ride and Noveria really didn't do anything for me (though they did have character). Whereas Mass Effect 2's score has more of those epic, emotional, tracks like 'Suicide Mission', 'The Attack', 'The Normandy Reborn', 'Legion', 'The Normandy Attacked', 'Tali' and 'Samara'. Even the rest of the tracks had a greater sense of action and urgency that really pulled you into those gunfights.

ME1's end credits song was vastly superior. That's all there is to say about that.

my vote is definitely for Mass Effect 2s soundtrack, i listen to "Suicide Run'' at least twice a day. i agree that Mass Effect was a lil more unique but im a sucker that imperial, 'Return of the King' 300/Gladiator style sound.. gets me hyped

This.  I was sorely disappointed that BioWare didn't get Faunts to do the end credits music again.

I like both soundtracks... M E 2 = more orchestrated dramaticism ... gorgeous... M E 1 was more electronica based.

I remember being very underwhelmed by the first game's soundtrack, but after listening to it out of the game I can appreciate its ambience and individuality. Mass Effect 2's soundtrack, however, you can really feel throughout the game, and it adds to the atmosphere very well. They both do their jobs very well; ME1 has the grand sci-fi epic feel, and ME2 has the action movie epic down better than any movie could.

By the way, does anyone know the name of the last track shown in ME2? After the suicide mission.
