^out of curiosity, how long has TW2 been in production?

They started work right after the release of the first game, I believe. Thats back in 2007.

Actually, not true.  They started on a stand alone console game set in the TW universe.  But, they got stiffed for development costs from the console publisher (Atari?).  So, it was aborted.  And more importantly, abandonded the code used for it.  Best time frame is end of 2008.

Of course if you argue that they recycled some of thatc console code, then the same thing could be said of DA2, using the same engine as DAO.......

It is also the second longest game I have ever played.

Lol, it looked pretty damn good on my high-end PC. Certainly way above average, but also nothing to right home about either.

Of course.... on 360... UGH! Ugly.

Honestly, I would really like to get an answer from one of them dealing with graphics to make sure whether they are satisfied with the work so far :-)

Which engine is DA2 using?

I know CD Projekt made their own for TW2.

It would be shameful if such a much more experienced, wealthyer and larger developer like BioWare isn't able to come even close to the level of Witcher 2 visuals with DA2. Even if DA2 is twice longer and broader than Witcher 2 (which I currently doubt, given the voiced protagonist and the apparently jumpy storytelling method they have chosen), it wouldn't be enough of an excuse for this kind of HUGE gap. So, here's to hoping BioWare just has a very different order of doing things, and they're going to give the visuals a very signicifant buff during the last months of development. Still, the gap between the two games' visuals is (currently) absolutely baffling...

Well in the GI article they made it very clear they weren't satisfied with DA:O's graphics... so I give them props for attacking that head on.

I do like the overall concept and new art direction in DA2... I just think the graphics (resolutions, models, clipping, ect) doesn't appear that great.

The Witcher 2 looks fantastic (well, there is something "soulless" about the characters, but I believe they'll improve on that too) but it might not make much sense to directly compare screenshots just because both have "alpha" or "pre-alpha" or whatever slapped on them.

When I saw the first two screenshots, then I thought it was a joke, when the two next came, then I realized it wasn't a joke and got worried

The poly count, lighting, background environments all look about fine to me. I think the only thing I'm not liking so far is the textures. (particularly on the ground)

As far as characters go i think it already surpasses Fallout 3. Environments is hard to say since they haven't shown much yet.

Fallout 3 looks last an xbox game, that's not saying much. Also Bethesda's presenation, really bad.
Very ugly for an RPG. Mods make Oblivion look beautiful, but down tothe community.

This...the jumping narrative....the dialogue wheel....the graphics.....are they working on diablo origins 2 ?

I agree insofar as that Bethesda's character models leave a lot to be desired, the same goes for their animations.

I admit, it is not looking good...  For now, I am taking a wait and see attitude.  Certainly not a pre-order.  Once the fan reviews (as opposed to the paid reviews at IGN, etc.) are in, then I will decide.

Indeed, thats a new bit of info about the party approval, from the looks of it, bioware would have gotten alot better responce from fans, had they not let GI get the info, and frankly make the game sound so...awfull and broken.

Like the screenshots released so far.  They are awful.  What are they thinking?  Bad PR move in my opinion.

Yes animations are very bad. When you throw around words like "super hot" and "concentrate of technoligy" you expect something like this...

Crysis is the the realm of "super hot" that's a game that makes you stop and go "woh!" well playing. The scale/detail is off the bar. It's a system crusher for many at higher setttings, a benchmark. Dragon Age 2 screenshots look like, slightly above Xbox game.

Perhaps he like Buck Rogers thrown 500 years into the future?  Du Du Duuu Du Du Dudu Duuuuu.....

^It is. Been in production longer than DA2 I would say.

It's almost an unfair comparison anyway. Most modern action titles don't even look as good as the alpha build of TW2. I don't know how CD Projekt red is doing it.

I speak of environments of course, because the character models in TW2 still need work.

TW2 is being developed primarily for the PC. I think they hope to eventually port it to consoles but from what I've read that is not yet underway. I'm guessing the new art direction for DA2 is partly to improve console performance (e.g. more angular designs = less polygons). Of course, this is all speculation and we won't know for sure until we start seeing screenshots of more environments and HD gameplay videos.

I don't care about graphics so much that I'd rather they hadn't released them. To me, story is king (Pixar, yay!), and screenshots give me a little window into it.

Nevertheless. I feel that it is a legitemate comparison, as both games are highly anticipated RPGs and both have similar release dates (Q1 2011).

Agreed.  But you have to admit to feeling just a little bit of trepidation at seeing these screenies.
