The hue of the background is not to my taste,it feels like a little monotonous, maybe it's just one testing scene or it's designed to fit in certain story plots. Moreover, the texture effect of the ground seems plain-lacking an uneven sense. However, the exquisite effects of fire and bolts definately bring us greater visual impact.

Hawke is the illegitimate son of Duncan :o

I'll go with this...and his mother...FLEMETH!!!!!  Which will lead to quite an awkward scene in DA2 when its revealed Hawke's love interest with Morrigan was video game incest.  YAY!!!

oooh snaps!

I do wonder whether DA 2 will clarify on a certain amount of plot threads left by the books and the game, such as well clarification on whether Alistair was the son of Fiona and Maric and what exactly did Maric promise Flemeth all those years ago.

As for Maric's promise to Flemeth, I'm not positive, but I think it was said or implied that he'd kill that which he loved most (Katriel).  As for Alistair's parentage, while it hasn't been outright confirmed, I think its safe to say Fiona is Alistair's mother.  Maric had Cailan with Rowan, then after Rowan died, he had Alistair with Fiona.  Of course, the Goldanna (Alistair's half-sister) thing complicates it, but if you pay attention in the game, Goldanna mentions she's older than Alistair, but its pretty obvious she's not Fiona's (since Fiona's first child was Alistair and Goldanna is older).

I think the best way to look at it is that Alistair, after being born to Fiona, is for whatever reason left with Arl Eamon to raise him.  Eamon makes up a story about Alistair's parentage, apparently naming a random serving woman (Goldanna's mother) as his mother either after Fiona's death (his biological mother) or after the serving woman's death--its probably safe to assume Eamon did this both to protect Alistair and to protect himself (its said in Origins by Alistair that Eamon's wife, Isolde, was notoriously jealous of Alistair living in Redcliffe, since she thought he might actually be the illegitimate son of Eamon himself, thus Alistair was forced into becoming a Templar).  Goldanna is probably too young to remember this at the time, since she believes Alistair is her actual half-brother.

The only thing that mucks with the theory of Fiona being Al's mother is in the codex (I think Eamon?) it is said he had to "hide" Al from Rowan which means she was alive when Al was born according to the game so maybe he had more than kid or the game is not based on the books for that part.

I assume thats an oversight on the developer's part/David Gaider's part.  It could be they decided to link Alistair to Maric through Fiona after the codex stuff for the game was written, or vice versa.  No big deal, though.  I can easily overlook that oversight.

Okay… funny thing is, if I saw this in a game I hadn’t tried the prequel of, I’d be thinking – that’s fine, like, those graphics won’t bug me. With most roleplaying games, I’m not really looking for graphics anyway, just a good character creator engine (do we now if we can make our own faces and change anything about the character bodies, yet?) and great characters and story, but the thing is… well, it’s not consistent.

I’m going to have a hell of a time convincing myself I’m playing the continuation of the earlier game. There’s nothing that much wrong with it but if I run into a character from the previous game, how am I supposed to recognise him or her? The faces are astoundingly different, and while I actually think these faces look better, the art style is so separate that if Flemeth pops up in this game like I heard she might, she’ll be like a completely different character altogether.

It’s a sequel and what I’d want is much better graphics but of the sort-of-same-style, otherwise it will just feel like it’s not the same world. Especially here, where I’ve heard some of this will be happening alongside the events of Origins – but somehow strangely enough in a world that looks wildly different from the other one.

I’m reminded of Assassin’s Creed I and II, where the graphics are much better in the second one but I still recognise the main character, or ME 1 and 2 where the graphics are improved but it still feels like the same world.

It’s just… weird. I’m hoping the game might be able to change my mind but this doesn’t look much at all like what the first game described. Art, to me, is a language and here, it’s like the fist game was written in one tongue and the second in another altogether, and it’s hard to make a connection. Never mind if it’s better or not. It’s not the same feel, not the same style, not the same anything, but it’s still somehow supposed to convince me that it’s the same world?

:/

I don't like the darkspawn having noses, and I can't say I approve of flat teeth, sharp teeth are way more evil! Darkspawn appear to be more humanized, which would make sense, because Hurlocks are the spawn of Human Brood Mothers. Even so, I would rather have their previous look and modified it to look more like the darkspawn in the Sacred Ashes and Calling trailers, loved their face tatoos! Still, looks great and I can't wait to get my hands on this.

I like the faces but dislike the armor, especially the darkspawn armor. Ogre looks fine though the DAO ogre was really good and hard to top...not liking the dragon though a little to stylized for my taste. I really do like the darkspawn faces though, just need to fix their armor a bit.
