I'm glad Hawke isn't sporting the He-Man Banana Hammock.

BREATHES

Okay, the skin no longer appears to be decaying rotting flesh. From this angle it looks like some dude with a skin condition, the hurlocks look like grandpas with unhinged jaws.  Before even on medium on the PC you had a rotting, decaying, gray skinned horror feasting on flesh the first time to see it. Then it runs at you and it will pick you up and CRUSH you if you aren't dextrous enough or if your party members can't stop it. It was this huge monstrous beast and it felt ..threatening. It was scary and it never looked bad to me. Some of the hurlock scenes looked like lizard men and that killed it but then you had OGREs, everytime I ran into one it was like DANGIT or OHCRAAAP. Now it generally seems underdeveloped and not nearly as @_@. It really does just look like it got a bad case of the freckles. Not to mention what was probably a direction in reminding us of how eerily darkspawn are bred, the corrupted vessel of a once non tainted race, more or less ended up making it look like an old folks home.

I needed to take a deep breath after reading that;) Regarding your Ogre point, one of the reasons I felt the same way as you did is not how they looked (well, a little bit), but rather how they moved. Massive, hulking monstrosities, pounding towards you with their giant strides, shaking the screen all the while.

It instilled a massive sense of get the f** out of the way.

I really hope the new trailer shows the posted screens in motion. It's it's fluid and dynamic, I wouldn't care if the characters were made of a 100 polies and textured with a 128x128 bitmap:)

in the 4th screenshot.... is that smoke
rising in the distance? .... just wanted to bring that up if people were
thinking about plain background art. I get that it could be a wasteland
or the top of some mountain or something. But really... if I was just
hanging out in some wasteland or in the desert with some dude... and he
would turn to me and say "man... this looks so plain" "...what?"
"yeah... there's nothing here... it could really use some stuff."
"dude... we're in a wasteland..." "yeah but... look the sky is one
color... and the ground is brown..." I would slap the s**t out of him!
All
I'm saying is, that they may not have chosen the ideal location to take
their first few screenshots. Just reserve judgement until you see
something from a city or a forest... hell even an interior
screenshot.

100% agreed.

Let us now discuss Hawke's unusual beard color, given the color of the hair on the rest of his head.

I thought it might have been the Black City from the fade. Spent a while looking at a couple of different pics of it but I couldnt tell if it was smoke or the bottom of the Black City (thats why I originally thought 'Hey, this is all happening in the Fade')

My father had a red beard and black hair. I inherited his beard color.

It's a magic beard that changes colour based on Hawke's mood.

Looks to be the ruins of Lothering in those shots.

I don't care for the backgrounds, like everyone else, and I'm gonna miss my Big Purple People Squishers (ogres), but whatevs. I do like Hawke and Bethany's faces a LOT more than the faces in DA:O, however. They're actually look realistic and not super shiney and plastic! It makes this art major a happy girl.

Also, are those tats I spy on Hawke's arm? Oh man, I hope we can have tats on places other than our faces, that would be amazzzinnng.

I think those pictures look pretty great. Also yay for better eyebrows.

But are those thinks actually confirmed as darkspawn? They look too different to me, except the ogre obviously.

The mage(Bethany?) has great hair. Hopefully it's available to players.

This sums it up, when someone can question if those are Darkspawn you know the design has gone awry. Unfortunately, yes those are darkspawn, the concept art shows the ogres transformation from DAO to DAII, and the Hurlock's aswell.

OMG! It's not fully rendered folks. That's why the environments look sparse. I am sure it will look great once it is...

Agreed. David Gaider's said the graphics will look better than these in the final version. No idea why they chose these screenshots to release first, but they probably thought they were being nice to their fans by giving us screens so early.

I forsee the most popular DA2 mod being restoring the darkspawn to their former glory.

Instead of albino humans with liver spots.

Whoever decided the new Darkspawn look should be dragged out of their officers at EA and shot in the street.

Despite what people like to complain about as typical fantasy orc appearance they had in DAO, they actually looked terrifying in that game.

In the screenshots they look...comical. Is EA trying to dip into the zombie crowd by making you want to headshot darkspawn? New, exciting addition: Shrieks now sit in the dark and cry, but don't disturb them, or they'll Overwhelm you!

First Dragon Age 2 mods will be nude females and BDSM Armour, no doubt.
Look at Nexus, for both Oblivion and Dragon Age, these are still sitting at the top of  most popular mods.

You know these haven't been polished, right?

Sorry to break it to ya...but that excuse has been used by every fan of every game that ever looked like poop close to completion.

I can't count the games I've heard people saying "Don't worry it''ll look better before launch"

After looking at the pics posted at GT, I'm back to seriously hating the style and art direction in general. Yea they might be waiting to slap on some /cough "polish" with textures and such...but the "style" I'm afraid is here to stay at this point....

With the incredible [/i]job that was done on DAO, giving us this is just a joke.

I agree I dont like how the darkspawn look. Their mouths bother me, in DA:O they had at least some lip.

The most popular mod not having to do with sex or sex appeal, then.

Which, like the internet, would make it ten trillionth overall.

Aye, but David Gaider himself has said that the game already looks a lot better. He hasn't lied to us before, so there would be no reason for him to now.

Am I the only one getting a fable vibe of the clothes?

this is probs what DA2 will look like on console .... except the Darkspawn will be different.
