hopefully someone can help me....
I am new to the game and toolset and was wondering if there is any way I can copy the OC by renaming it and then use it as a separate standalone mod for reference to see how things were done and then eventually modify it..
Is there any way to do this?
Thanks,
M
Use the OC as a new mod?

you don't need to - the toolset already comes with all the database resources you need to modify it. simply make your changes and hit export... itll throw them in the correct override directory for you. To distribute your changes, you need only share the files in your override. its really been made as easy as possible... though it may not immediately appear to be.

Thanks MikeMike37 -
The only reason I wanted to do it that way would be to avoid screwing things up in the OC, which I know will inevitably happen since I'm new to the toolset.... lol
If I make changes and they cause problems can I just delete the contents of the override folder and then problem solved? is that how it works?
Thanks,
M

As long as you don't directly overwrite files you'll be fine. Anything in the override can be deleted and that will stop it from affecting the base game.

Thanks ITSSEXYTIME -
I understand what you are saying, but I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean... if that makes any sense... lol
What I'm trying to say is; when you say 'overwrite things directly' are you saying overwriting a file that's located somewhere else other than the override folder? sorry I'm still trying to understand all of this at this point...
I'm so new to all of this I feel like an idiot... lol
Thanks,
M

when a file is added to an override folder, we say it is overriding the original file. In truth, both files co-exist, but the one in override gets priority... the effect is that it is as though the original were removed, but the significant difference, as ITSSEXYTIME points out, is that if you just empty all your override folders, you are back precisely to your original game.
That said, its not bad practice to keep several saves for your characters, in case they come to depend on a resource youve added and later removed.

Okay, I think I understand now, basically....
So whatever you create in the toolset gets tossed into the override folder... and I guess you can open existing scripts too and change them and they go there too and you never lose the original script....
That's one thing that messed me up a few times with the NWN toolset....
Thanks to both of you for responding,
M

I'm getting ahead of myself, but just wanted to try and avoid some problems in the beginning, at least try to anyway....

you can't directly override the single player resources. if you install the toolset all you get is the core file database. there you can edit clones of the single player resources. now if you export them these files are stored within the override folder of your module and will override the original single player files. if you deactivate your module all changes to the single player files are also gone. if you want to reset the edited clone files you have to reset the toolset's database.

Yeah the Toolset is pretty good about not letting you mess with the core files.
