Hawke does bear a startling resemblence to Duncan and we don't know duncan last name is it possible its Hawke? I know grey wardens are less fertile than normal, but we know the grey warden managed to knock up Morrigan.  So can it be HAwke the son and daughter of Duncan or his Beard. Can anyone who has read the books confirm or show proof as to why it couldn't happen.

Hawke has a customizable appearance, does he not? The beard thing is a personal choice by the devs to represent Hawke, not his actual appearance.

It is true, we really don't know Duncan's family name. But Duncan wasn't from Ferelden and while Hawke might not be from Lothering were we was at the time of the Blight, I don't think this theory hold up. Then there is the part that you can customize Hawke however you want :)

Hawke's story begins in Lothering, as the darkspawn are approaching, so the Battle of Ostagar is already over and Duncan is dead.

It would be pretty hard to include a twist where you turn out to be Zombie Duncan, if your character has been living in Lothering for a while, at least, and has a sister, as it's been indicated.

Also, my character will be female, beardless, and generally look nothing like Duncan. So it would be pretty hard to believe that she's any way connected to him.

The books simply state that "the chances for a Grey Warden to conceive are not very large." Gaider confirmed in a post that it is nearly impossible for 2 Grey Wardens to conceive. I don't recall ever seeing an explanation, but I would suspect it has to do with the taint since Darkspawn cannot have children.

No. If anything, s/he's the son/daughter of Duncan's beard.

Beards are not a genetic trait you inherit.

I'm going to name my character Lincoln Hawk after Sylvester Stallone's character in Over the top

This. Only Female LI's should not have beards IMHO.

And if Hawke does turn out to be Duncans son/daughter, then Ill have to wonder if they'll inherit his badassery (more than likely!)

It does make sense so many people were in a state of discord when they found out that Duncan was permently dead, by making Hawke the son of Duncan they can get people to develop an emotional connection to him which is a good stradegy considering people are angry over the fact there is a lack of orgins and thus a lack of emotional attachment to their characters. So no I didn't base my idea only on the beard, though if the canon version of Hawke looks like Duncan it might show hints on the orgins of Hawke.

Good point, I'll need to go edit the Macho Man's Wiki page. (Everything is better with Beards, or Macho Man!)
Back on topic, isnt Duncan in the one of the DragonAge books? And if so, is there any mention there about him having a family or romantic interest?
