Hey, I don't like it anymore than you, but the Quarians borrow heavily from Jewish stereotypes. If you like Tali, then someone suggesting that she may be Jewish in any way shape or form should not bother you. It doesn't bother me and I like both Jews and Tali.

On a more "biting" note, yes, Ashley is kind of a hick.
-She's racist
-She loves guns
-She has a bad temper
-And she enjoys killing reptiles, and birds

Tali never struck me as Jewish.  Probably because the accent felt Russian.

Her voice actor is Jewish I believe. Her accent does seem a little Russian. See Praza for accent, and also the Ship Captain in the loyalty mission.
But it does not stop there.
- They were expelled from their homeworld
- They are considered second rate citizens by many
- They are commonly considered thieves
- They never throw anything out
- They bargain for ships, buying as cheap as they can
- "Bosh'tet", really, c'mon?
- Getting suit=bar mitzvah

I just hope their males dont go to the slaughter house as a rite of passage...

Ashley did came out a bit weird...but never even saw Tali as anything beside weird foreign type....russian for some reason. But the similarities are scary...

Either way, as soon as I saw that Tali was Love interest in ME2....I didn't care. My interest is ASh vs Miranda, or Ash vs Tali.

Although ASh vs Miri.....that has to be the show of the century.....

I hope there in ME3 there is huge fallout from the LI situations. (personally, Ihope for, oiled up bikini fighting or just like fighting through the Normandy leaving a trail of chaos.)

WOOOOOOOOOOW.  Dude.  Do you want some help, or are you fine digging yourself in deeper all alone?

Hey, I don't like it anymore than you, but the Quarians borrow heavily from Jewish stereotypes. If you like Tali, then someone suggesting that she may be Jewish in any way shape or form should not bother you. It doesn't bother me and I like both Jews and Tali.

On a more "biting" note, yes, Ashley is kind of a hick.
-She's racist

She distrust aliens because of humanities history and lack of personal experiance working with other races, plus because her grandfather had to surrender the garrison to the Turians her family name is blacklisted. She doesn't dislike/distrust aliens based on irrational hatred of them because they aren't human but rather because she has bad history with them.
That said, she still happily volunteers to work with the Salarians on Virmire and openly despises Terra Firma's policies on dealing with aliens and if the right dialouge is pursued she ends up very trusting of aliens, to the point where she refers to Shepard as 'Mr. Negativity' when he expresses disbelief that the council didn't listen to him afterall.

-She loves guns

She's a soldier. It is generally expected that a soldier knows how to use a gun and knows a lot about them, if a soldier didn't understand how every little piece of their weapon fit together and what it was called and what it was classified as, then that soldier wouldn't be issued with a weapon in the first place. She's not a gun nut, her job is know weapons and that's the definition of a good soldier.

-She has a bad temper

Lots of people have bad tempers, it doesn't mean they are 'hicks'. Given all her family history and her militant upbringing I'm not at all surprised that she gets a little aggressive from time to time. Besides despite this, she still has a compassionate side to her. When taken to Samesh Bahtia about his dead wife who was a soldier in Ashley's unit she takes the time to comfort him and tell him how much his wife loved him. After Liara's mother dies Ashley suggests that Shepard go talk to her because 'she just lost her mom, that's gotta hurt' and she isn't afraid to make cheeky yet friendly jokes with a few of the crewmembers including Kaidan and Joker.

-And she enjoys killing reptiles, and birds

If you are referring to the killing of Wrex, she did that because he was pointing a gun at her commanding officer and negotiations were going nowhere. It's not because she just couldn't wait to kill Wrex, it was because she didn't want to wait for Wrex to shoot first. I don't condone that action (as Wrex is too awesome to die) but I also don't condemn it either.
I don't know what the referance to killing birds is though.

I apologise if this seemed at all obnoxious or rude, I wasn't trying to come across that way. I just thought I'd point out that I disagree with you somewhat although I accept you are entitled to your own opinion.

Also, to reply to the topic: Yes I stayed faithful to Ashley. I understood why she would be hurt and confused on Horizon and in the email she sent it was still quite open ended as it seemed like she clearly still loved Shepard, considering she called him 'Skipper' again and said that she couldn't lose him a second time.

I read it as being confused and uncertain about the future but that there was a chance to mend the relationship in the future. So I figured it made for more interesting story telling to see Shepard try to rebuild the relationship he had with Ashley then it did to see him try and start a new one, so I opted to stay the course.

Of course that was just my choice, I don't judge anyone who saw it differently.

my only motivation for keeping an ME1 LI is for an xbox acheievement which is rumored

Then I'm afraid I must disappoint you, as that is not how the system works. All 1000 original Gamerscore must be attainable within the game itself, any new achievements that come with DLC can only be unlocked in said DLC or the game itself.

They can, however, provide alternatives like the "Long Service Medal" did in Mass 2, which you could unlock by either finishing the game twice with a new character or once with an imported one. Likewise, assuming you can get all possible LI's on your ship in ME3, you could theoretically get that game's "Paramour" chievo for seeing the romance scene of either Liara, Miranda or Shiala.

What amazed me (in a bad way) about Mass Effect 1 was there was no 'hot' love interest infact not even a decent looking human. So I only did the romance subplot for the achievement only to find out that theres no gameplay benefits. And then finding out that theres Miranda in Mass Effect 2. Good question why stay loyal to original ME LI? Theres no reason to when theres Miranda Lawson!!!

My Male Shepard has no romance in ME1 while my female one romanced Kaidan, though I still romanced Garrus in ME2 ( just to see how interesting it will turn out in ME 3)

... It's impossible to get the letter if you did not romance Ashley.

WRONG ... if a FemShep romanced Kaiden then she gets a lettter from Kaiden ... leaves the door OPEN for a continuing affair in ME3.

My male was Liara in ME1 (Kaiden was not an option, sigh). My FemShep romanced Kaiden, got a HUGE HUG on Horizion then got a lettter from Kaiden ... he leaves the door OPEN for a continuing affair in ME3. Remember that Kaiden is NOT into casual sex, period, and FemShep is very special to him (BEST LI in ME1, best dialogue, far better than MaleShep with either Liara or Ashley).

...?

I mean it is impossible to get a letter from your human ME1 LI if you did not romance them.

you can reject sleeping with your ME1 LI and you'll still get the letter (because the romance is still active)

Maybe the romance was locked in, but instead of going to bed with Ash, she was turned away whenever she came into Sheps cabin?  Does the save file transfer into ME2 as a romance, if the LI is turned away in that scene?

Yes it does. ME2 counts the romance as active if the flag is triggered not if you did the deed before Ilos. So starting it in one convo is enough to carry it over in to ME2.

Yeah, apparently even if you turn them away at the captain's quarters they still count it as a romance.

Some people "accidentally" romanced an LI only to realize their mistake when the LI showed up pre-Ilos. Unfortunately for them, turning the LI away did nothing to get them out of their jam.

In my humble opinion there isn't any convincing reasons, for me anyway, to stay loyal to either Kaiden or Ashley, since both their reactions upon meeting Shepard on Horizon were less than positive in terms of relationship stability. Additionally, we don't see them anymore in the game after Horizon, so why "pursuing" the relationship blindly if we're out of their presence all the time? At least with Liara we get to meet her, get more explanations than either Kaiden or Ashley concerning their current professional obligations, we don't get blasted for working "with" Cerberus, we receive side-quests and experience in return, we get a kiss (albeit very brief and barely desired, I concur) and we can always simply go back on Illium to meet her whenever we want to.

Had BioWare considered to make Ashley/Kaiden available for conversations like Liara then perhaps I would have kept Ashley as a LI in ME2 for my MaleShep, but instead I chose to break that relationship and I went with Tali. I don't know... maybe if Ashley would have been stationed on the Citadel, or some place I could have met her on several occasions, then as I said then yes it would have tremendously helped "the cause" and I might have kept my interests in her... but unfortunately they've been completely removed from the game after Horizon, so with my MaleShep I went with Tali and my FemShep is still with Liara (although flirting with Kelly in the meantime, I might change that eventually in a future game).

If you could only get a fight between two Mass Effect 2 characters.......LIke if you are gettin with Tali, and then you want Miranda, so you say no to Tali. What if they got in a fight in Mass Effect 3? Can you imagine the character boards? Holy **** it would be hilarious!

Why? Because those who did were very attached to the ME1 LIs and had no interest in the ME2 LIs felt they should be, I suppose.

In my case, I had no reason. My Shep liked Kaidan and she understands why he acted the way he did, but she never -loved- him. She -loves- Garrus.

I like the fact that the actions that I had at the first game are totally connected to the 2nd one. Actually this is what makes the game even better. I mean, knowing that everything you're doing will be changing the course of the history for real ;)

Ooh, I snagged me one to respond to here, yes'm.

I think most ME1 LI fans would tell you "hot" is interpretive.

Though it's probably not politically correct to say it, I'll be honest at the cost of popularity and admit I was also mildly surprised that the LIs in game one were not noticeably hot or sexualized. I was bluntly surprised the first time I saw Ashley and Kaidan without their helmets on.

I had come to anticipate it in videogames. There's always this ridiculously sexed up character. But Kaidan and Ashley weren't gorgeous, and Liara was not as traditionally pretty as everyone said characters like Shiala were. They definitely decided to go in a different direction and present these characters in a different way. It's a good, bold move.

And then replace them with super model looking people in fancy suits for game 2.

Lol. You know, when I first met Garrus again in ME2, with Jacob and Miranda with me, I wanted him to turn around and say, "Oh, I see how it is. I leave for awhile and you've replaced me with pretty people in liquid latex. Nice, Shepard."

But actually, I don't think Miranda is traditionally pretty either. Her face looks consistently weird to me at times.

Jacob does not seem gorgeous to me either. They both seem average-looking.

Hey, it's useless bringing that up with me, the t-shirts were in Ash and Kaidan's favor imo.

Jacob and Miranda's outfits look ridiculous. Their bodies are just shaped so weirdly.

How am I supposed to focus on the Collectors when the real big mystery is whether Jacob can possibly have any circulation in his lower body. How is Miranda's character supposed to shine properly when it looks like they stuffed balloons in her underwear and she's walking around with them.
