I really hope they do include it. That's definitely a feature that would be a shame to lose, and very dissapointing.

Agreed

Nice name btw ;)

Indeed. You need top down for tactical combat! How else will I know where to place the fireballs and blizzards!

Hi Everyone

We've updated teh BioWare Blog with Day 1 impressions and such. You can check it out here: http://blog.bioware....con-blog-day-1/

As far as "when will we gt to see it if we're not at SDCC", you will have to wait for a while yet. Everyone coming in to the demo signs an NDA not to film or take pictures because our PR department and DA team have big plans that will be hitting in a few weeks. We do have requests from press groups to show it to you from here, we even had Geoff Keighley stop by the booth to check things out, but no dice. You'll need to be patient if you can't be here. Sorry.

Still, we know what you are waiting for is pretty damned cool, so buck up buttercup. Image IPB

Oh this is getting ridiculous. BioWare is probably extorting some magazine or website for exclussivity rights to each snapshot of each shot of the demo and we can't see it because they're getting ridiculously greedy. Stop it!!! You'll get plenty of money and profits when the game releases now show us the bloody thing.

or they dont want to show much until after the first trailer. and they have it all planned out to do so. if the trailer will be shown on the 17th and gamescom is on the 19th which is also my As level results day D: i guess we will most of this awesome game then. and they will probably reaveal all the news about it then too.

This is exactly what is happening^^^^

I can't help but wonder why the picture posted after this post was deleted for providing a nice graphical representation of what BioWare is doing.

It was a 'sexy' Flemeth (I know, that is as odd to type as it is to read). She had headgear on (and armor), but her face was similar to the original, just didn't look exactly the same.  But again, this was on X360, not the PC, and the graphics style has been modified, so I wouldn't expect anyone to look exactly the same from DAO to DA2.   I definitely knew it was Flemeth, I was just surprised she was sauntering up to me like Angelina Jolie in skin-tight armor!

I don't find this at all shocking or annoying.  In every one of my playthroughs I "kill" Flemeth.  So why would I be surprised to find her in a new, younger body on my next encounter?  In fact, I find it creepy and awesome to have her same witch voice coming from a much younger woman.  I'm still guessing she's taken over the body of another daughter.

Except for the fact that this sequence in the game likely takes place before Flemeth was possibly killed in Origins...

The possibility of not having tactical combat is shocking to me - it would really change the feel on PC.  Not sure if I would get the game in that case, though I'm keeping an open mind.  Anyway, I seriously hope they don't change that aspect.

Shield Bash is a good example of where that happens in Origins. As the player you'd expect the activator to charge  and immediately bash the living daylights out of its target, instead of first doing the geometric drawings to determine the angle in which swinging that shield would be most effective. Sadly I haven't seen the revised combat system in action yet, so I'll reserve my opinions until I do.

That's funny. It was shield bash that got me thinking about the combat system on a fundamental level, back more than a year ago. The question I kept asking myself as a sword and board Cousland was...."Why is he getting up in just about the same time it takes me to close and start hitting him again? Shouldn't I be able to quickly move in and follow up that awesome ass-plant I just made him do?"

Luckily, I know a couple of guys on the gameplay team, so I made a few suggestions, tipped well, that kind of thing. Seems to have worked out okay.

Shield Bash was actually one of my favorite moves.  I played the first game for the first time as a massively armored sword/shield Cousland.  I usually fought battles with the overhead view, but I always zoomed down for Shield Bashes, because I almost feel the visceral impact as the shield slammed into the enemy, forcing him to the ground.  I loved that!  Then I'd immediately pause and pan back out in order to set orders against the downed enemy.

I'd hope that was just a misinterpretation on someone's part- my impression was that they were very much keeping the ability to zoom out in the PC version, but that the console version would stay zoomed in.

But yeah, if they were to get rid of the ability to zoom in and out on the PC version, that would be pretty damn close to a dealbreaker for me. I think somebody just misunderstood, hopefully...

What I really want to know is when we'll see any gameplay from the PC version? I just hope its not like ME2 all over again where you didn't see any footage from the PC version until about a week before launch.

Agreed.  It does seem like probably a misinterpretation - perhaps they want to make the game more playable for those who don't want to zoom out, which is fine by me.  But yeah, not being able to zoom out would be a serious problem for me.  I agree with you that it was probably a minterpretation - keeping the PC combat largely the same, using the tactical pause and improving the tactics system would be a strange focus if we couldn't zoom out to see the full tactical situation anymore.

I want to see PC gameplay too - I do think though that Bioware is still committed to the PC and will show that to us.  ME is different, since that was a console franchise brought to the PC, unlike DA.

I'd really like to share that optimism but most of the changes being made to DA2 thus far revealed seem to be with the console in mind, not necessarily PC. It just seems likely in my view that the big design choices (like the wheel, simpler art style) are being done to make the console version better and will more than likely be ported back to the PC, for simplicity's sake.

Now whether they spruce up what ported back to the PC or pretty much leave it as is, like they did with ME2 PC, remains to be seen. Thats why we need to see some PC gameplay.

just got back...and got to play the demo. most of it's been covered, but i DID hear them say that the xbox 360 is the main design platform for DA2, which is somewhat disappointing to me...I loved that DA:O was a PC game ported to consoles, not the other way around.

I was definitely excited to see Flemeth ><

The problem is that whatever changes they make with the consoles as lead will just be ported over to the PC, with little optimization- or at least not a ground up design focus for PC like you had with Origins. I'd like to believe its not true, but sadly every design choice and change from Origins to DA2 seems catered to rectify weaknesses of the console version of Origins, not make the PC version of DA any better.

I'm hoping I'm wrong, but given the woeful state of console to PC ports, this sucks if true and may just be a deal breaker for me.
