Check out the Infinity Engine Modlist for some resources for modding the BG games.

Feel free to add and discuss mod releases (and places where mods are collected) in this thread. Remember that no spoilers belong in this forum, so chat about mods must be spoiler-free (for both BG1 and BG2).

Mod X is really awesome because it enhances that part of the game, which I always thought was a bit lacking; too bad it's incompatible with mod Y, because it seriously cannot compare to mod Y.

I've been planning on going through the game at least once without mod Y but with mod X, but I just can't get myself to do it.

Any thoughts?

As for those of you who've found dead links to mods, I hope you clicked on the 'notify dead link' -ehm- link?

Too, if you ever do find active links to the mods you're looking for, be sure to return to this thread and share.

Speaking of Mods should the Weidu version of the Ascension mod be installed before the G3 fixpack? I can't find documentation specifically stating what particular install order it requires.

It's generally recommended you install Ascension before the G3 Fixpack, yes.

I don't think anything particularly bad happens if you don't, but there are some little things (e.g. Protection from Magic Energy having the Spell Shield portrait icon and vice versa).

Thanks for the info. I've got one last question, hope you don't mind.

Would there be any adverse effects on my saved games if I uninstall the fix & tweak packs to do a "recommended Ascension install" (based on the order) and then reinstalling the packs after doing so?

You might (probably almost certainly) have displaced text strings (items descriptions saying dialogue lines etc). Other than that I can't immediately think of anything else that would happen, provided you installed the Fixpack and Tweakpack identically to what you had before.

Hmm, it sounds like either way would be a little less than ideal but rather harmless in the end. Which would you consider the lesser of two evils then? Just installing Ascension over the Fixpack or "cleaning up the install" and dealing with those problems? Oh and would future playthroughs be affected by the displaced text stings and the other potential minor inconveniences?

Heh I really wish I found out about Ascension sooner than I did. Thanks for all the help.

You'd probably have less trouble installing Ascension on top of your current mods. As a worst case scenario Ascension would undo changes made by your other mods but it shouldn't break anything (like uninstalling, installing Ascension and reinstalling could do).

If you guys are interested, I can post my Weidu log(commented) which is some sort of an installation order that you get after installing a mod.

I think the TeamBG ones are dead, but there are a lot of other mods still out there.

By the way, is anyone still actively creating mods to any degree? This game's pretty old now and most posts I've seen on modding sites are at least a few years out of date, but I think The Grey Clan Episode 2, for example, was still being worked on up 'till about a year ago (now discontinued I think, which is a shame, because apparently it was almost done).

Yes, maybe not as many as there were a few years ago, but there's still a fair number of people creating mods for BG.

I guess that depends on where you look.

Check www.gibberlings3.net, the front page has all the recent activity and most of it is from this year (the latest content update was at the end of June).

Which is just kinda nutty, considering the game(s) is(are) 10(+) years old and wasn't(weren't) really designed to be moddable at all.

That's really great!

I'm kicking myself a little for not installing Stone of Askavar for my new, Dark Side of the Swrod Coast, playthrough. I'm up to Chapter 4 too, so I'm nearly ready for it. Never mind.

Gibberlings3.net appears to be dead. Sad days. Anyone know what happened? There were a lot of major mods/fixes/updates there.

The grapevine says it's a temporary problem on the web host's end.

Try Spellhold studios' "Big World Project" and its "Big World Setup". It's a streamlined installer if you want to put in tons of mods without errors.  It has its own constantly updated modlist of everything out there and you pick and choose.
