I also understand that for marketing purposes that Mike Hawke is the way to go to promote the game to as much of the intended demographic as possible. To be fair about Kuja.. we don't know that he is actually gay, he may just be flamboyant. Ah yes, I forget that making fun of yourself is not always encouraged in nations outside of Australia. My bad. Here when someone makes fun of you, it usually means they think you're a great mate. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're considered a snob and a social outcast. Sometimes I forget how it works overseas Granted, I have seen this poster harassing quite a few people in different threads now so I am pretty sure it's not a problem they have with just me.

I don't think courtesy is sexist.  Now, of course, that may be different if you open the door for her because you believe that all women are weak and stupid and don't know how to open doors.  Then yes, that would be sexist.

I always cringe when developers make statements about choices that are made to cater to that so-called "majority" of straight, white, young, male gamers, or choices that were not made because the group it caters to is somehow in the minority. I think the number of female gamers (and other percieved economic minorities) has exponentially increased and changed across genres from the time when those statements (as blanket justifications) were true -- and continues to change very quickly. 

I just wanted to say thank you for pointing this out. One of the most frustrating things about the DA2 stuff we've heard so far is the idea that--to bring this back to the thread topic a little--the marketing must be all about ManlyManHawke because Bioware has to focus its energy on the "primary demographic". The assumption that straight white men ages 18-25 are the overwhelming majority of gamers is sadly dated. Also, the idea that if some of the marketing shows a guy who doesn't look like he's on steroids or even *gasp* a woman, the SWM18-25 will howl in rage and refuse to buy the game seems to me to give too little credit to the primary demographic.

That would definately complicate things, especially if you were wearing requested "bad ass plate armor" and I was trying not to get tied up in the leash.  Not to mention it's hard to go anywhere with a dog humping your leg.
