I don't think I'll customize Hawke's appearance. Personally I love that above picture. I think that is a great look. I love the hair, I love the tattoo (which you can't see in that pic but can elsewhere), I love the skin tone and the dark eyes and how well they match between the two characters.

They both strike me as kind of... well, Greek, oddly enough. He looks like I'd imagine Odysseus to look. Not necessarily a negative thing.

There is a sort Mediterranean feel to their looks, aye.

Well, I care. I've run into a bunch of people who didn't know that you could play a female Shepard in ME. There has already been a fair bit of confusion from some over whether or not you can play a female Hawke. Besides, it'd be nice to represented in marketing even just a tiny bit.

Basically, I think there should be acknowledgment of LadyHawke to quell confusion over gender options.

Hmm to those people who did not know you could play as a female

That's very unfair--you hardly see it mentioned outside of these forums. Honestly, I came here in fear that I would read Hawke would only be male, since left and right Hawke's referred to as only a "he", with no mention to customizable gender; yet plenty to class.

His beard and hair has a sort of brushy quality to it, it looks fluffy, soft. The girl's hair though, looks like an elaborate plastic helmet in comparison. :-/

The only thing you can hope for is one good preset. in the first game I just used the preset that looked a lot like Leliana and changed her hair and I was done. I did the same thing in Mass Effect, just change the hair. I try not to mess around with settings because I always make them look worse

Anyway, back on topic, I really hope that even if Bioware doesn't want to use Lady Hawke for marketing purposes, which makes sense I guess, they will still release a picture or two so we know what her default appearance is and what's possible in the character builder.

That scan actually makes the game look good.
So, contrast and gamma are the secret to good visuals?

To C9316: that pic is great!

I think the Greek look fits in well with the whole idea of Spartan combat and city states of the Free Marches.....see thats why I think it would be cool to see what concepts they have in mind for Lady Hawke.....were the devs thinking of having a similar style for her as well?

With ME I didn't customize Shepard, but that was more because only the default seemed to look somewhat natural. I dunno, anything else just seemed...off. But with this...it's because I specifically want my Hawke to look like that.

He's good looking alright. I Just don't want to see him all the time....

Well, Free Marches are Greekish. And they say 'fight like a Spartan.' So I think they are going for a specific theme, here.

Anyway, it would be nice to see some Lady Hawke media, yes. It would also be nice to see future interviews about the game emphasize that Hawke can be male or female, too, instead of just making default assumption choice (male) without ever showing/speaking of the other (female). Shepard is an example of this brand of marketing, particularly with ME2.

It is one thing to slap a male character on some box cover art or in a trailer for iconic marketing purposes to a specific demographic, but it is entirely another to lack marketing (beyond these forums/fanbase) the choice, option, and customization over being female as well as a part of the game's capabilities.

Hawke does have the air of an ancient Greek hero surrounding him in that picture... intriguing. I agree with the person who mentioned that he looks like Odysseus, or at least what I'd envision him. Strangely enough, Bethany reminds me of Penelope.

Preset is buaäääääh. In DA:O as much as in Oblivion and some others I loved to "mess around" for hours until I really liked it.
The only one witch was terrible was FemShep in ME1, I didn´t matter what I did, she always looked like a doped frogman. One of the reasons why I gived up to play it was the domina voiced scarecrow supposed to be me.

I hope I can create the same Mediterranean look for my FemHawke. I really like the look of the default male. Those cheekbones! And oddly enough I like the beard, too, though that's usually not my thing.

I think, by logical progression, that we can assume that FemHawke will have the same type of look. If Bethany is (male) Hawke's sister, they probably look similar, as siblings are wont to do. But Bethany is also FemHawke's sister, by definition, so THAT pair should look similar as well, which means that both male and female Hawkes should look similar, at least to the point that most siblings do.

A -> B
B -> C
then
A -> C

Anyway, I agree about the beard too...I'm not normally a fan, but that looks pretty natural, not too big. And overall he's muscular but not in like a He-Man way, which I would hate. He's big enough to look the part but small enough to be interesting.

So Bethany is his sister correct? So if I'm a female Hawke, am I the big, sword wielding sister? I hope Bethany isn't a little wussy.

Sure, Lady Hawke screens could be nice, but the moment of truth will be the character creator itself. If they release a standalone creator early, that'll be nice. Hopefully character creation will be strong enough without the need for extensive modding.

ME 1/2 NPC's looked pretty convincing. But femshep possibilities in the character creator were pretty limited in my opinion. It could have benefitted greatly by adding sliders to the preset shapes.

She's a mage--and if mages are powered the same way they were in the game? She's going to leave your sword-toting a** behind.

I mean act like a girly girl and make my Hawke look like a total dude. I hate when Bioware does that.

Greekish based on...?

Granted, when I think 'Greek' in a fantasy context, I'm thinking bronze age demigods, which absolutely wouldn't fit Thedas' medieval bent. Neither the Byzantine nor the Ottoman empires which held sway in the region in earth's middle ages bear any correspondence to something I'd consider free marches. Not to mention that I tend to see a strong link between Greek culture and seamanship, considering the smattering of island that makes up something like a third of the modern-day nation.

I'd like to see Fem Hawke's default preset, personally. Does she have a similar scar to Mike's? Does she look like Bethany?

As a PC player, customization is no big deal, as long as there's a toolset, but it would be interesting to see what the devs consider default on the female side of things.

I too love this picture. The texture, the angle... everything. It reminds me of a renaissance painting. Let's hope all conversations look this good.

Waaaaaaa awesome where did this come from? (I mean, I assume Gameinformer, but anywhere online to look at? *puppy eyes*)

That said, even though our Lady Hawke is customizable, I would like to see her at least some too.  Or see a video with her.  A lot of times these trailers or gameplay things are put out before release, and they always feature the male default. I'd love, for once, to hear and see the Lady default before I put the CD into my Xbox.

Tone mapping and contrast can be big parts. Keep in mind though, large part of "texture" of that screenshot as well as colour palette comes as result of having things printed on paper and then scanned back. It works effectively like film grain, making difference between TV show and movie-like appearance:

Excuses; if you have the choice to play as a female in DAO of course you can play as a female in DA2. So again Common Sense.
