With the areas as big as they were in Origins, you would have to dismount before you even mounted up... And then there is the mechanics of mounted combat... Bioware isn't exactly known for pushing the bar, technically. (They just have good writers for the stories they tell.)
Although it's kind of sad when an indie game like Mount&Blade can do it and a AAA title can't.

I'm sure if they ever decide, "Yes, we will have mounts and mounted combat in *insert future DA title here*", they'd let us know IMMEDIATELY.

They are too expensive to make into the game. BUT you can be certain they will be mentioned in some obscure codex entry

As much as I would love horses I just don't see how they would fit in to the world and combat without being cumbersome.
Seriously?
Assassin's Creed, Mount&Blade, that last expansion for NWN1?

No, I agree: the areas aren't large enough to warrant horses. There's no point, especially because all three of my companions will need one, and that's just garish.

No, seriously, give us horses. Only in cutscenes, or standing still in villages, but let us see them.

as far as we know, maybe there are no horses in thedas, or any other type of mountable animal. Dwarves can mount mabaris and nugs but that's all.

That was Ferelden alone

I don't see the point of horses in this type of game
just as Bioware doesn't see the point in jumping, climbing, swimming (and flying) neither

There's horses in DA:O I remember a dalish elf going on about the Halaa(the deer thing) and said that they were treated better then how the humans treat horses.

I think the assumed reason is that the Orlesians really love their horses--with the mounted Chevalier and all--and therefore the Fereldans really don't.

This reminds me of how David Gaider once wanted a pony, and the fans accommodated him. Somebody ought to whip up a pony model, to give back to the fans...
This is awesome
