This patch is a good start, but there are still a lot of things that need fixing. Hopefully this is a new attitude being shown and them learning from their mistakes, and more patches and news of them will be coming in the near future. It was nice to get weekly updates instead of months of silence with the only communication being about dlc.

Agreed, the weekly updates were great.  I hope they will also let us know what their future patching plans are.

I love your optimism, but I think further patches are rather unlikely due to the amount of effort they've put into apologizing for issues that are 'unfixable' under current circumstances.  It is far more likely that resources will be directed toward DA2 development and testing.  I could be wrong, but what would you prefer they work on?  The DA2 release date won't likely be delayed to make it more stable and they've botched the DA support badly enough that further investments don't make much sense when they have a new product on the line.

Well, they are still going to be selling DAO DLC prior to the DA2 release, and they are going to have decisions from DAO import into DA2, so I do think that it's still important that they get DAO into tip-top shape.  You have a valid point, and I realize they may not have resources to do more patches after this, but I'm still hoping that some of the other issues people have mentioned, which this patch doesn't deal with, will be attended to in the future.  Image IPB

My big question since I did not see it in the release notes, is there fixes in this patch for the crash bugs and memory leaks for Windows 7 64 bit, and I7 multi-core cpu's. Also Awakenings made these crash issues worse so there would need to be fixes for that expansion as well. Just curious if this patch is going to make the game more stable.

Thanks for the update though.;)

Tip Top shape may be important for another reason:

many folks read game related online and print press 1rst before making a decision.
Bad news sell best - so what do you think will happen when they read headlines
like 'DA O still a construction site after more than 1.5 years - players fear their
decision summary from da o will backfire in DA 2  RtP' and worse?

Standard adjustment - just in case:

I look forward to playing DA 2

I think you've slightly mis-interpreted what I meant by I don't care.  I do care about the game, it's the first one I've bothered to plat on the PS3.  I am concerned about bug issues.  I don't, however, wish to keep reading a bunch of ingrates moan and complain about every little thing constantly.  I've seen the time and effort my kid brother has had to put in to some of his work (he is also a programmer) and how, as has been previously mentioned, one tiny typo can affect everything.

That last I don't care was purely a case of say what you want about me, take all the swings you want, it will not make any difference to my life.  My apologies for allowing my 72 hrs of work in the 84 hours previous to my post altering my quality of writing.

Both of these issues were  addressed in the release notes.  Here's the excerpt from Victor's first post to this thread  "Release Notes, General Fixes", about 2/3 of the way through the list:

•    Fixed a number of memory leaks that were increasing the number of crashes
•    Audio drivers were causing a number of audio-related crashes. As such, audio drivers have been updated.

Admittedly, "64-bit" and "multi-core" are not called out specifically, since these problems occur, (or, for the vast majority of users, don't occur) in many, many environments, not just those two.

BTW:  My kit is Win7/64 on a QuadCore with 8GB RAM, and it had immediate  CtDs as soon as I loaded 1.03.  Without the FO3 "Large Memory Area Flag" fix, I'd have been SOL for playing DA:O/A over the past three months. (THX, akanounnikoff!)

I'm just as glad as everyone else that a patch is finally (after 4 months) being released, but keep in mind the patch history.  Every (and I mean *every*) patch that has been released has required some kind of hotfix.  1.01 was busted, as was 1.02, which is why everyone has been using 1.02a.  1.03 was an unmitigated failure, despite being required for the expansion.  It would be a nice change of pace to see a departure from this pattern with 1.04, but I'm planning to wait and see if 1.04a becomes the norm..  Patch-introduced errors aside, I'll be quite upset if they can't fix the simple issues like Awakening-introduced talents still not functioning correctly after a 4-month wait.  Victor seems to be unable or unwilling to address these straightforward concerns despite this seeming to be part of his job description.

The notes listed several memory leaks.  In the absence of more detailed information, we'll just have to wait and see if the specific issue to which you are referring has been addressed.

I'm certain this was fixed in a prior patch. Wasn't it 1.02?

Okay I deleted Warden's Keep so I could actually see the Vigilence armor, and now I can't load my game because it says I need Warden's Keep. How is that a fix deleting the Keep when I can't even load my game to use the new armor/sword?

well i am using this fantastic tech support service they got going here to show me whether i should get DAO 2 or not

so far not, but if this patch actually manages to fix everything and the game actually works (4months late i might add) then i might consider actually buying a game that wont work for at least 4 months after i buy it, then again i might just wait 6 months till i get it hell they might even be releasing 3 by that point

If it's the PC version, you need to tell the game to continue loading even though required content is missing.  This should remove that DLC from memory so that you can continue the game.  I couldn't tell you how to do it on the console version as I haven't play it.

Don't delete Warden's Keep, just untick the box... I think that should work.

Even on PC, if the Warden has the Power of Blood abilities it may not be possible to "force load" the game with WK disabled.

If on PC, the best way to fix the textures is to use a mod--see other threads for details or search dragonagenexus.

If on console, and you have the Power of Blood abilities, it appears you're hosed.  Best answer is to just "deal with it" and pretend that the textures aren't bollocks.
