Why hasn't anyone mentioned "Rocks fall, everyone dies" from NWN2 yet?

I considered naming it, but I didn't have a problem with NWN2's entire ending. Just that one part. I liked that we got slides showing how our characters' actions affected various areas. It reminded me of Fallout and Jade Empire's endings. The TPK thing was lame though.

Okay, bitter rant done. I'd also nominate NWN 2. It's literaly a "rocks fall everyone dies" ending.

I wrote this on page two. I literally burned through that campaign to see if if was good. It was not.

MotB was better, though. So... yeah. I did mention it already. After a bitter rant.

I would say KOTOR2 was my worst as topic creator said too. It really wasnt much of an ending at all. Think Obsidian were rushed so much that they couldnt even get a proper ending.

That's pretty much what happened. And it was shaping up to be my favorite game of all time. Which makes it my personal worst. When I find who cut that development time, they are not going to be happy.

Worst part for SW fans is that the "ending" was made canon. Of all the beautiful things about the star wars extended universe canon, this was horrible. Words can't describe it.

Worst ending ever? Probably those of all my favourite games (too many to mention them all) because you don't want the game to end Image IPB

I guess I'm differentiating "bad ending" from "no sequel" and "bad ending" from "rushed ending"...

I'm thinking more along story lines I guess. If NWN2 has the "drop a bridge on 'em" trope, then that's probably pretty bad.

I still can't think of a bad ending to a game. Honestly, I don't remembering thinking bad thoughts at all about the end of Awakening.

I remember being upset with HOW Dead Rising ends, but that's different than it being a bad ending. Just an ending I didn't like.

I guess I'll nominate Oblivion - not only does the game not technically end, but the main quest is so anti-climatic (showing that Bethesda's wheelhouse is in open-ended sandbox worlds, not in the BioWare wheelhouse of storytelling) as to be funny that I bothered 180 hours of play to get there.

That's actually what happened.  But that's not all; tons of other game content was cut, including the Hunter-Killer droid factory (which was making the HK-50s).  I'm gonna agree with the OP that KOTOR 2 was the absolute worst ever.

Rumors tell me that the HK facility (which was mostly a secret mission) was 90% complete. It's even on the XBOX disk, I'm told. I've seen screenshots of a hacked game with the disk content. Can't anything be finished...

I'm sure I sound like a broken record by now, but KOTOR 2's ending was horrifying. (Can you tell that I'm bitter? Image IPB)

Well the ending of Mafia felt very cheap at first, but I grew up and I think it's actually very fitting now.

Phew! I thought I was the only one that played this game.

Also, I thought Crysis had a bad ending. I thought it was waaaay to rushed and with no passion. Just a cliffhanger so that people would play Crysis Warhead and that was it.

any bethesda game, I like Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3 but once I do all the main quest missions and lots of sidequests I get bored and I don't see the point of playing an open sandbox game when there is nothing left to do. Wandering around an open landscape for no reason is boring. Also the ending for the Thing was pretty terrible

Monkey Island II. That whole amusement park thing was so out of tune with the rest of what was a fantastic adventure game.

Im going to have to go with Fable 2 on this one, though i enjoyed the game the ending was just terrible

i mean i spend the entire game trying to get stronger and gain allies to defeat Lucien then when the final battle comes i simply shoot him once and he dies i mean come on i know the game is not meant to be challenging but wow

though i do regret not bringing my dog back at the end :(

All this Fable 2 bad mouthing is making me glad I never finished the game.

And feel stupid for having bought some DLC for it that I never used.

The evil ending to Arcanum: your character teams up with the big bad and destroys the world. He turns on your character and after an epic battle is narrowly defeated. Since all life has been extinguished and your PC has become effectively immortal, s/he wanders around an empty world until the end of time. All this is related to the player through voiced text over a bland background.

<gasp>  I'm just amazed someone else has actually played Arcanum; it's actually one of my favorites.  I'm incredibly glad I didn't try the evil ending now, however.

Personally I didn't care for the ending of AC2.  Not that it was bad but it didn't feel like an ending.  I understand the story isn't over but a little acknowledgment to the end of the game would have been nice.

prince of persia 2008. i mean, you just imprissoned a god that was about to destroy the world and one girl had to die for it. then ''the prince'' frees the evil god again so he can bring her back to life!

that was a real WTF! moment for me.

I thought the same until I played the epilogue then I realized the ending made perfect sense.

i never got to, what happens in the epilogue

It's been over a year since I played it so I may not remember everything correctly.  In the epilogue, which was released as DLC last year, Elika is understandably very upset at the prince for undoing all their hard work by freeing Ahriman again.  The prince insists having Elika dead is exactly what Ahriman wants since she is the last of her tribe and that since Ahriman is a god he will just wait until the seal weakens at which time there will be no one able to defeat him.  The prince figures that together Elika and him can find a way to seal or destroy Ahriman that will allow Elika to continue to live so that she can either reassemble her tribe or teach others how to keep Ahriman sealed.  Elika disagrees since if there was a way to destroy Ahriman wouldn't her tribe have thought of it long ago?  Throughout the epilogue the prince tries to convince Elika that the fact that Ahriman is sending enemies more powerful than they have fought before after them including a recurring boss fight against an amalgamation of the Hunter and the Warrior means that Ahriman fears what Elika might find.  In the end after fighting against a souped up version of Elika's corrupted father, Elika finally believes the prince might be right (I can't remember what all convinces her.  I think they find some murals in the corrupted palace they are travelling through about the events of when Ahriman was first sealed and her father may or may not come to his senses enough before dying to tell Elika that Ahriman is worried.  As I said, it's been a year since I played it).  The epilogue ends as they leave the corrupted palace with Elika leaving the prince as she goes off to try and find the remnants of her people.

Also, going to have add Heavy Rain to the mix. Game was great (minus voice acting) but the ending(s) left so many plot holes unrevealed... not sure why they did that still.

I'll have to agree with Fable 2. It wasn't the shooting Lucien part, but it's just how everyone disappears and also the choices. Sure, you see Teresa at the end of the See the Future DLC but it was just sad because after I finished I really felt no purpose behind whatever else I did in the game after the fact. I actually really enjoyed the game and the story, rubbish as it was. I do hope that Fable 3 is as good as Molyneux thinks it is. I somehow doubt it, but I'll buy it anyway probably.

It's a great, underrated game. One of the best RPGs to come out in the last decade despite a few serious flaws. The evil ending was bad all around. It's way better to just skirt evil by doing a few bad things here and there and still defeating the big bad rather than joining him.

Another game with a bad ending was Metroid. It was a great game with an exciting flee before the planet is nuked finale, but the ending was very simplistic. It was just Samus standing on a barren field with her helmet or power armor being removed to reveal she was a woman. The revelation was cool and the art made it feel like an ending but it wasn't what I would call a satifying conclusion.

Super Metroid was little better. The lead up to and final battle with Mother Brain had a cinematic flair to it, but the ending was little more than showing Samus flee from Planet Zebes on her ship moments before it exploded. Maybe I was expecting too much since Metroid is closer to an action game than an RPG.

Hey. Indigo Prophecy was a great game. But you're right, the endings (all three or four of them) were definitely anticlimactic.

Anyhow, worst video game ever: Limbo of the Lost; the game was so horrible that the ending was probably the only entertaining portion of the game...and that's definitely not saying much since the ending, like most of the crappy game, was irrelevant and annoying.
