Hey guys, after trying the demo on Steam, I just bought Mass Effect 2 yesterday and it's great :)
But there's just one messed up problem that ruins the immersion to the game - my resolution is 1440x900 16:10 on an Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT graphics card. I use an intel core 2 duo processor and 2GB ram.

The game runs fast, lag free at the high resolution and all effects turned on, but the main problem is prerendered cutscenes
.
The cutscenes are low res and appear to be stretched outside the boundary of the screen, although ingame everything is at 1440x900 resolution.

For example, in the startup video for Bioware and EA games before the menu, the EA logo is stretched and begins at the bottom of the screen and the other half is stretched outside the screen. So right now I don't know what to do to fix this. In-game cinematics and load screens look jarringly low-res and is incredibly annoying :(

How can I fix this? This problem didn't occur at all in the Steam Demo of the game, so I'm not sure why the retail version should have the same problem. Also I did not buy this game on steam.

I would appreciate any help :)

Did you run the configuration utility?

Change to a lower res via the utility, save, run me2, same result? If its fixed, run the utility again and bump it back up to 1440.

If the stretching is off then my guess is that the game was designed for 16:9 resolutions resulting in some issues on 16:10 resolutions. I haven't heard about this problem before so I'm not saying this happens to everyone with a 16:10 res. Do you have any problems in windowed mode? If you play at your native resolution you could just play in windowed mode (no border) and it still looks as if you're running it fullscreen.

Just out of curiosity, what's your framerate? I'm asking because the 9400 GT barely meets the system requirements and is even under the ME1 requirement. I'm quite surprised that the game apparently runs smooth at a resolution higher than 1024x768. I used to play ME1 on an 8500 GT (same card) and it was barely playable at 1024x768.

I don't know about framerate, but it never really lags so I'm thinking it's 50~ ?

It only ever lags during cutscenes in the Brief/Comm. Room which is sorta odd.

Yea apparently 9400 GT operates at twice the level of optimisation as an 8 series card or something.

Changing to low res, and other ratios didn't work guys :(

Guess I'm stuck with this ...

Wrong. A Geforce 9400 is merely a Geforce 8500 with a new name, on a thinner die wafer. It's barely better than plain junk for gaming at medium resolutions.

Doesn't really stop me being able to play most games at little lag though, so I'm good.
