I think a guide for all us players out there to play the game in its purest form possibie is a good thing, still missing from these new forums.

We all know Baldur's Gate Trilogy and Tutu, but some poeple - like me - want an even more 'vanilla' experience. This guide will tell you how. I hope you guys can help me out with what I don't know yet.

Step one
Install Baldur's Gate of course. There is a problem with the Widescreen Mod if you are using the three discs version. I would recommend to find a download of the six version one to avoid problems. If there is a handy fix for this, let me know. I always get bugs with the mod this guide revolves around.

Step two
The patches are needed with the six discs version. You can find them here. Follow the instructions.

Optional step one
Now the modding begins. First get the Baldurdash packs and DudleyFixes if you want that. I probably won't install them, because I like to play the games after all these years with all the flaws and errors my favorite developers left in there. I know. It is a bit neurotic :innocent:.

Step three
Install the Widescreen Mod of The Gibberlings Three. Only use 1024 by 600, 1024 by 768, 1280 by 768 or 1200 by 800 if you want to use the fixed menus. This restraint isn't necessary if you use Tutu or BGT.

Step four
Download this little thingy here. I can't read Polish, but it is quite easily done. You can use the other background linked at the bottom of the screen (update: follow this information)  if you think the original one looks ugly (like me). It is only usable with 1280 by 800 and 768 though. That shouldn't be a problem with the screens of today.

Optional step two

There are a lot of Baldur's Gate mods out there which don't need the engine conversions. You can find them here.

I hope this is useful to someone and I will update it if necessary. Dudley also has the best walkthrough out there. Use it if you please.

E: I'll post screenshots when I have them.

I really wish there was something like this for 800x600 - that's about as far as I'm wanting to go with BG resolutions :(

I'm sure this will help many new to the BG modding scene however - good post!

Thanks. If someone has a definitive answer on how to easily use the Widescreen Mod with the Original Saga discs, please let me know.

Just a minor correction: the alternative background image works both for 1280 x 800 and 1280 x 768 resolution.

If you unpack everything you should get an '.exe' for everything. Just place it in your folder.
