Undergeared is possible but I do not think you can be Underleveled because the mobs scale to your level. What will make certain fights in DAO hellish is not having the skills when they are needed.
During my second play through, I actually went there right after the Mage tower (get healer) without doing any side quest, level was about 11-13, much easier than when I went there at level 22. Branka was much easier as well.
the dwarf with 9 breats has killed the game for me

you have got to be kidding me.
how is this boss hard. I killed her with my main solo on nightmare.. and I hadn't runed my gear since the original campaign because I didn't realise I wouldn't be able to come back to do it...
hint: click on her and your character swings his weapon.

I have to admit, I struggled with this on my first playthrough. That was before I realized how good Wynnes Spirit Heaking abilities were. She makes amy boss fight so much easier.

Put green gems on Shale, activate Tank Mode, park your healer in back, and steamroll. Having Wynne and Shale in the party makes everything easy mode.

Beaten her with 3 rogues and a healer, my rogue being in cailans armor from RTO in tier5 - the other two were Nat, ranger / assasin and ehh.. something, legionnaire scout. Sigrun with duellist, legionnaire scout and ranger and Anders.

Agreed. Shale just makes things so brokenly easy that it's absurd. Last run, I took out Branka and all her golems with just Shale and her Regen crystals. Alone.
