Someone who uses my Exporter came with a question, that he wants to edit human faces, but cannot make it work.

We came to the conclusion ,that face meshes arent easily edited, because they use a special morph technique. But also that nobody has a clue about it.

If anyone has interest to working it out ,just come to this discussion here and tell what you know

My only experience with the head models is, using my plugin to import and then re-export the default file resulted in a face which would become "fixed" i.e. no longer reacting to changes of shape sliders and such.

Since my plugin merges suitable vertices on export, i'm chalking this up to the game engine relying on the face vertices to come in some pre-defined order -- when the overall amount doesn't match it no longer works, and i'd guess when the number matches but the order is different you get these improperly applied normals from different polygons, or whatever it is.

Yep thats the only thing ive been doing until this came up.

My tool can re-export faces that work as good as the original, vertex order is retained thru max. But as you said, the problem comes when you change it. But what do you say about this weirdness. When you change and not only insert one vertex but EXTREMELY, and insert a qunari head for a female head (the Vertex order and count is way different) it works again LMAO

Check this out.. flemeth:

This is the morph editor, i loaded the flemeth morph nothing more. The left picture is inserted from the cutscene editor, where flemeth isnt morphed. But that is because, the morph is there a snapshot of the morphed mesh, and the snapshot was made with the female head so it doesnt show.
