I said it... and I mean it.  Everyone on these forums thinks that the only way to play ME2 is on Insanity... well I'm sick of it.  I've played the game a couple times on Insanity and I can't do it anymore.  It forces you to play certain classes a certain way and doesn't give much wiggle room to play around.  I'm currently playing an Adept (which I do well on regardless of difficutly) on veteran and loving it.  Join the cause... fight for the fun!

Why should you care what difficulty someone plays a game on? I play to relax. I challenge myself in life and work, so keeping a game simple for me is good enough. It all depends on your individual goals.

Well enjoy it. I am too used to Insanity to go down. I am having fun too, by the way.

Well... people on these forums think that someone isn't a true ME2 player unless they play on Insanity... I love the game and I hate Insanity. I have more fun on Veteran and below.

Way to generalize. Some people maybe. But why would you care what others think when you play SINGLE PLAYER game?

Because everyone knows you haven't played ME2 until you've played Insanity NG+ ME2!

Nah, I get Nick's point. Mass Effect isn't just about combat. Some people even go for Casual difficulty because they'd rather just go for the storyline and character developments.

However, I like the challenge. I have never been a strategy player until ME2 came out, and I'm discovering the satisfaction in a well executed strategy. Or a spectacular Vanguard Charge fail. :P  But any of my friends would be absolutely perplexed as to why I have developed this glee. I have been cannon fodder in Halo and WoW. Maybe it's the multiplayer aspect. Heaven forbid ME3 allow for co-op, I'd never get anyone else to team up with me.

Still, when I dropped the difficulty setting for the first time in months during a bit of squadmate testing during my Adept playthrough, there was also great relief in seeing biotic powers work the way the developers intended. I felt like the all powerful biotic that I was back in ME1.

I've asked before how someone would adjust their builds and strategy for Veteran and below. I think probably the biggest change is using a greater range of squadmates without worrying about having the appropriate defense strippers all the time.

Probably makes strategy discussion difficult when the default assumption is that everyone is playing on Insanity.

Well obviously what works on Insanity will be godlike on Veteran, what's the problem?

I typically play on easy, but I found insanity actually was a lot of fun for me.

Some people don't like the "godlike" setup that Insanity players do.  Maybe I want to play a vanguard that uses all the biotic powers and a bonus biotic power (maxed).  On veteran it is "godlike"... but if I suggest it in these forums then someone will come along and say blah blah blah Insanity.

Again, way to generalize. I play on Insanity and use only very few powers, namely Charge and Inferno Ammo. That's it.

Maybe because Shockwave is totally useless for Shepard on Insanity (compared to other available powers)? And you need 3 point in that just to unlock Pull. Vanguard has no other biotic powers other than Charge. Honestly, what would you expect if that build is just bad for Insanity? That said, I can see that it could be fun to use Shockwave on Veteran, maybe put tag "Veteran difficulty" into your thread title?

You do realize that you were the one who used "godlike" first?

I said an Insanity build/strategy would most likely felt godlike on Veteran. Does not mean it's that way on Insanity. Makes sense to me.

I strongly dislike playing in a godlike mode, which is why I have a hard time dropping the difficulty setting even though the powers are designed to for Normal difficulty. I am a vocal critic of Reave because I feel it's overpowered even on Insanity. I've discussed in other threads ways the developers could design Hardcore/Insanity where the powers react in a similar manner to Normal difficulty, but the combat is still more difficult.

Well, I may have understood it in a wrong way, (when you wrote: "Probably makes strategy discussion difficult when the default assumption is that everyone is playing on Insanity.
") I thought you ment what if someone is stuck on Veteran (ie Collector Ship or something), in that case Insanity strategy must work on Veteran. And to be honest, there are not very many options as to how to build your character. You can have 7 abilities at most and you can max 5 of them. Any build that uses all points will feel godlike on Veteran imho. And I hate Reave too btw, as well as Warp explosions. Bottom line is that the game should be fun, some enjoy this and some that. :)

Yeah, I think we're on the same page now. Well, you and I are. Nick is probably making some "I play Veteran and I LIKE IT THAT WAY" banner.

I have to play on Casual due to extremely poor hand-eye coordination. Quite humbling, since I can play ME on Insanity.

Personally, I cant stand playing on anything other then insanity because the game is too easy. Having played 3 crazy rushing vanguards through insanity; anytime I sit back and take it easy the enemies dont have a chance, let alone playing a lower difficulty. With that being said, I certainly dont look down on people not playing insanity, play the game how you want to.
