World of Caenyr what's uuuuuuuup! I know, it's been half a year since my
last "monthly" update but the good news - that doesn't mean there's
been nothing to update about! Quite the opposite in fact, it's truly
been an incredible first half of 2010 for World of Caenyr. Let me do my
best to sum up all of theactivity as concisely as possible. :-)

First I want to start with the players because our community is what we are
all about! Severalplayer conventions have taken place since my last
update, all three of them in Chicago (go figure, that place is a Caenyr
hot spot!) Photos fortwo of the conventions have just been posted to our
MySpace fan page and the recent convention pics will be up by the next
update. I was personally able to attend one of the conventions and I had
a blast! You guys never cease to amaze me when I get to meet you in
person! In other player news we have had a lot of new players join our
great world and many returning players too. It's half a year's worth so
bare with me andapologies up front for anyone that I've missed (I'm sure
there are some!) But here it goes, welcome to World of Caenyr!

On a sadder note we have had to say goodbye to a dear friend and long time
Caenyrite, Arzhael. Real life has hit him in a very difficult way so
he needed to step back from Caenyr to deal with it. I can't thank him
enough for all of his great contributions as both player and Dungeon
Master, not to mention his friendship. You will be missed my friend, we
all wish you the best.

Sowhat has been going on with roleplay in Caenyr? A ton! One of the biggest player driven & DM supported
events that has taken place, and is still ongoing, is the Genocian
conquest of Tendril. The Legion invaded like a deadly storm from the
south, causing death and destruction in their wake and have now renamed
their newly acquired lands as New Genocise. Already the black skies
of Genocise, the reach ofMelivar himself, stretches north over the once
blue heavens of Tendril.With Tendril now in his grasp it is certain the
Overlord has Chail in his crosshairs. But the people of Tendril have not
completely given up hope! A "resistance" has formed and caused a lot of
problems for Legion operations in New Genocise. A mighty Dwarf named
Drick seems to have taken the resistance lead after his home was
destroyed during the attack, and people are rallying to his side. And
there's another powerful influence that has once again appeared to help
rid the world ofan evil menace as they have so many times in the past -
The Righteous! Caenyr's newest player guild that has stepped in after
the fall of the Ban Curaidh during the invasion. Zaheir Fashad runs
this guild so if you are interested in joining please contact him or
post on their public forum.

While the battle rages on down south, up in Chail there has been no lack of player or DM driven activity
either. The dispute between the King's Royal Lancers and the Black Hand
had escalated to a point of near war at the gates of the Black Hand
Stronghold but oddly a deal was struck that made the Black Hand step
down from their position and release the prisoners they had been
holding. Now the Black Hand has evolved in an even stranger and more
unexpected way, recently appointed as a new army of Chail alongside the
Lancers by the Regent, Lord Alakin. How will these two armies manage
working side by side in defense of the Kingdom? Will they ever trust
one another? Should they?... And if that conflict wasn't enough the
Itheril of Har'oloth have also seized an opportunity to attack the
Kingdom from within, rising up and conquering Menthor's Temple in the
Northern Etaric Forest. While the Black Hand keeps watch over Chail's
borders the Lancers face this internal threat head on. But there's even
more, the strange presence of a figure named Thor who had sent the
citizens of Chail on a hunt for precious artifactsthat eventually
provided him with maddening power and the result was a large explosion
that caused severe damage to Chail-Anden and surroundingparts of the
city. The greatest damage was to the Goblin Caves, their home in ruins.

I could go on and on there is definitely so much more but that is some of
the major activity. Overall I just have to say THANK YOU to the players
who have driven and lead so much of this roleplay and the DM's for
their leadership and support of the player actions, enhancing the
roleplay environment and experience.

Two other major events that  have occurred over the last few months need to be mentioned. The giant
v26 module update that so far has released in two phases and still has a
third phase to be released soon! So far this update has brought tot he
world - holdables, pets, a tattoo shop, custom item crafting and a LOT
of updated and new areas including player houses, guild houses and the
addition of the Jraag Desert areas with ournew desert tileset. Coming in
the third phase of the release - return of the Frozen North, Sea Battle
Campaign, music shop, a Vampyre city and much much more. Stay tuned...

The other major event I mentioned- our 8 year anniversary!!! That's right,
in May we turned 8 years old and we celebrated this occasion in a big
way. For several weeks I put up old versions of the module for players
to experience and even ran some tours to talk about Caenyr's past. The
three additional modules that I hosted were the ORIGINAL version of the
module, the version with the now fallen Kingdom of Zenegral and the once
secondary module for the continent of Tyrania. Players had a great time
exploring and learning about the past and the DM's even ran a few
action packed events there. Then on our birthday weekend there was a
huge in-game parted hosted by me that will definitely go into the Caenyr
books as one of the best times ever!

Then finally you'll notice a new Screenshot of the Month here on the homepage. Once again,
thanks to Animayhem for submitting some great in-game shots! There's
also a new poll so be sure to get your vote in! Lastly there are some
new items available for sale at the Caenyr Shop! Be sure to check it

I have been playing in Caenyr for almost 8 years now. It was probably the third server I tried when I moved to multi-player. I responded to a cry on the Bioware forums from the creator Noggy for good aligned characters to come battle the ever growing evil. I have NEVER regretted it even though I am now part of that ever growing but never successful evil



The high point of the world to me is the community. We have players from across the world and I now have friends across the world, some dating back to my beginnings and others from the years between.



The RP is top notch, creative and immersive. Come take a look - you won't regret it either.

Module update - v26 Release 2B now live! Nothing major on this update, but some important bug fixes and some area updates based on RP events that needed to get out asap! Larger update still in the works for a bunch of new additions. But here's the details of this latest release:



Bug Fixes

- Entrance to Fynn's Tattoo Shop in Southern Chail-Anden now accessable. Got get a tat!

- Dyeacloak fixed so all of the elements (cloth, leather, etc) can be dyed again

- Cobalt Troupe weird "Living Quarters" map note removed

- Legion northern hall entrance fixed to standard guild key & patrol route for guard in the hall is fixed

- Legion gear merchant fixed

- Gomulas hut doorway fixed (can exit now )



Roleplay Updates (Area Edits)

- Goblin Caves blown to bits from the Thor DM Quest

- Menthor's Temple walled off in Northern Etaric Forest from the Itheril conquest (will be detailed up to full Itheril standard in the larger update, for now just walled off to block entrance)

1. Regional Sciences: Geography, War, and History

2. Universal Biology: Necromancy, Anatomy, and Magical Creatures

3. Extraplanar Studies: Divinity, the Planes, and the Gods

4. Magical Ingenuity: Magical Artifacts, Alchemy, and Golem Creation

5. Regional Ideology: Arcane energies, Literature, and Philosophy

Previously I posted that WoC is a very good world with friendly and helpful players. I still hold by that. However as an update to the wholehearted recommendation I gave it on the previous bioware boards, having played there a while I must add some caveats if you are new and considering giving it a go. Overall I would cautiously recommend it, as long as you are careful.

Most players are very pleasant and helpful ooc, even if they play unpleasant people IC. There's a very good grip of the difference between IC and OOC. However, as so often anywhere, there are two or three bad apples that unfortunately are not reined in and kept control of. This means that at times it is sensible to keep your head down and be careful and there are certain people it is very wise to avoid. 

Not so much a criticism as a note, the world and the rp are dark. Evil tends to win, or come out ahead; Good tends to be driven backwards and not be able to fully reclaim the ground it's lost. It's a good opportunity to play Evil, if you enjoy that, and be the baddie that you can't be irl This (and an unfortunate incident of bullying) more than anything wasn't to my taste so in fact I left, but I admire the cleverness and effort that goes into the overall story direction. It's good, if you enjoy that sort of thing.

This  does lead onto the second real criticism. At times it feels as if you are moving through pre-scripted RP plans without the chance to alter them. Attempts to go on in different directions are not accepted to the point of being told by admin that 'it won't succeed'. 

If you don't mind this strongly guided rp, which actually has its good side too, then there is a great deal of fun to be had and the depth and richness of the rp is up there with the best. The guided factions provide variety and the world design is lovely.  I didn't meet many DMs but the ones I did were very good indeed, one of them stellar.

Most of the people are really helpful and prepared to put time and effort into newbies. Just be aware that as with any world, there are limitations, and be aware that the admin will not in some cases take action on player behaviour that is sadly less than pleasant. If you're the sort of person that isn't fazed by this, or just keeping a bit of caution in mind, the world can be a lot of fun. 

Really, as with anything, don't put more into it than you are prepared to lose and be a little careful, then enjoy.

I'm sorry if there has been friction leading to a bad result Falkish. However, whatever has gone on is not something I know about, with respect I can't go along with your last paragraph as I am in a less involved situation.

I won't belabor the point here on these boards, but if anyone would like to view my rebuttal concerning the situation with Falkish from his post up above I have publically done so on our community forums here (you must be registered on the forums to view.) I don't hide dirty laundry, I hang it up publically for the community to see or ask about in a special forum on our boards so that there are no secrets and no wild rumors. It's then up to the community of players to judge and make a decision on how, if at all, decisions or situations I'm involved in will effect their choice to play in our community. I think you'll find that 99% of the community is very happy and enjoys Caenyr, but there will always be exceptions and that's ok. No mod or community is perfect, that's why there are choices out there so people can find the one(s) that works best for them.

Hello Caenyrites! These last three months may just be the busiest the community has been in years! There's a heck of a lot going on, so let me get right to it!



First and foremost I have to mention one of the biggest initiatives Caenyr has ever embarked on - World of Caenyr Evolution (WoC Evo.)WoC has been one of the most successful and powerful PW forces to hit NWN, paving the way with ingenuity that others have adopted and leading the pack when it comes to community spirit and friendliness. The question then becomes - how do we do it again for another 8 years? The answer is WoC Evo. An initiative I started to have Caenyr adapt to the times but without damaging the core of who we are that has taken us this far and kept so many players in the community. To help me with this initiative I put together a focus group of players from various aspects of the community, a team I call the Fellowship of Caenyr.. yes... the FoC'ers. ;-) I use this team to help me get faster, more efficient feedback from the community in combination with the larger "Suggestions Forum" input from everyone, to develop changes that enhance the player experience in World of Caenyr. In the few months since WoC Evo went active I've already implemented some significant changes to our community such as an improved Builder Team for faster updates to the world (focus on getting player driven RP updates in as soon as they happen,) a Kingdom Travel system so players can get to each other faster, a Flexible Guild system to put the fate of the Caenyr guilds in YOUR hands not the administrators, a Unified Service Guild, rule improvements for Improved Evasion, Guild Sizes, Item Customization and more! And that's just the beginning! Another decision is to improve our forums to phpBB3 and I'm already working with our web host on the change. All of these changes are meant to improve player experience, player satisfaction, RP continuity and overall fun! With the new and improved Builder Team has already come a ton of module updates! Some of the highlights from these updates include a Sea Battle Campaign, streamlined/improved/new Caenyr hakpaks, and in-game Auction system, a poison system, tons of new dungeons, items, guild updates, RP updates and more! The work that team has done in just a couple of months has been extraordinary, and I have to thank Brutus (new Builder Foreman) for his incredible leadership in making it all happen! Thanks, Brutus and team!



At the end of the day, however, what is World of Caenyr without some great RP? Trust me, there has been no lack of that! The biggest news is by far the end of the Tendril conquest by Genocian forces. After years of effort the resistance, aided primarily by the Righteous, has finally driven the Overlord and his minions out of their land, liberating it from evil's grasp. This war didn't come at no cost, however, with the capital of Gwaen being razed to the ground as the Legion fled back south. But now free the people can begin rebuilding, but who will step up to take the throne and lead them into this new era?... Meanwhile, up north in the Kingdom of Chail, times are equally as challenging. Since the discovered betrayal by the Regent the Kingdom has been left without definite leadership, and an army divided between the King's Royal Lancers and the Black Hand. In the midst of the chaos the Lizardfolk have attacked the lowlands and the Itheril conquered a portion of the forest. But the people have remained strong throughout and now new hope has risen from the birth of the King's Praetorian Knights and the leadership of Almares within the Council. Perhaps Chail too will find itself a new King in the near future...



Finally, in other community news we have had several Caenyr Player Conventions in cities such as Chicago (go figure) and Memphis, with several others on the horizon in Texas and also again Chicago. We also held several contests on the forums, one for a new Guild Leader of the Brethren (congrats Kusbana!) and one for a random drawing on those who gave donations to win a free character portrait courtesy of Yas'vyre (congrats Alur!) Meanwhile our MySpace fan page has gone through a complete facelift and also features a new Caenyr Shop item and new photos from conventions and in-game! Ok, so building off of DangerMouse's idea, I've decided it's time to change up the DM Academy process slightly. In essence I have created two classes of DM's: Senior DM's and Junior DM's.

Senior DM's: These are the DM's you know today for the most part. They have graduated the DM Academy, play Deities, Kingdom Rulers, smite wrong doers, the whole kit and kabootle.

Junior DM's: Haven't graduated the Academy yet so are restricted from some senior level DM activities but otherwise are still considered a DM, meaning they can influence RP for the players of Caenyr from the moment they are selected to join the team. The activities they are restricted from until they graduate the Academy are:

• Playing a Deity
• Playing a Kingdom Ruler
• Creating Items for Quests/RP (They can still assist with bringing in guild items)
• Approving Character Bio's
• Character Level adjustments

On the inverse a Junior DM character CAN also be a Guild Leader since they don't have as many time-consuming responsibilities as Seniors but once they graduate the Academy they will have to give up the GL spot, same as it is for Academy members today.

Other than that they can do anything a senior DM can do including claiming Personal Quests, solving disputes between players, etc. So they should NOT be looked at any differently, both Seniors and Juniors are DM's of the same authority. Senior is not a rank, it just indicates that those DM's have been through more training and experience and therefore perform some higher level duties.

In light of the changes I made a ton of forum updates and changes to the DM forums over these last few hours and also updated our DM Roster. You can view that here. For example, due to this change the three members currently enrolled in Academy class 015 (Brutus, Gallows and mastersuntzu) are now officially "DM's" on the roster. Behind the scenes they are still of a Junior status, however. Hope that all makes sense how it works now.

Wow, this year really snuck up on me quick!!! Happy Anniversary!!!! Today is NINE YEARS for World of Caenyr - WOW!!!!!!! I really don't know what to say that I haven't already said every year since our birth. YOU, the players and friends in this community make this place so special, make it all worth it. Nine years of ups and downs but fun throughout it all, with some of the best people I've ever met and have been able to call my friends. It's amazing that we've come this far together and it still feels as enjoyable as it did for me from the beginning. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'll be here until it's just me and one of you players left if that one other player is still excited for World of Caenyr, and hell even after they leave I might stick around and RP with myself. LOL! Anyway, here's to another 9 amazing years you bastages!!!

So, it's been a long time since I've been around NWN(well over a year or more, probably closer to 1 1/2 years).  Same amount of time it's been since I last visited WoC.  Just wanted to drop by, say hi, and apologize for my sudden disappearance back then.  My computer went schitzo, and I ended up without for nearly 6 months.  By the time I got it back, I didn't feel like playing NWN anymore, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that I left all of you hanging.  You guys are a damn friendly bunch and deserved better from me. 

Due to recently getting back into D&D through Giant in the playground forums(a play by post site), I started to crave NWN, soI recently installed(tonight, actually) NWN, and doing so reminded me of all you guys, and I decided I should come over here and apologize.  Hope things are going great in WoC, I miss your awesome world and the friendly players! Especially the pirate type(I'm sorry, It has been a long time, so I've forgotten specific group names) guild I joined in-world!  Had a lot of great fun with you all.  oh, for thos who might not remember me, iirc, I played a monk character with..I think the name of Kyran? or Kyraneth.  Ahh, after looked it up on the WoC site, I see it was Kusai Yegreth, a follower of Drigen ^^

Hello and no need to apologize, completely understand! Life causes players to come and go all of the time, it's the way of things. Means a lot that you felt the need to apologize, however, and I really appreciate all of the very nice things you said about the world and the community of players! Now that you are back with NWN you should come back to us, would love to have you return! And the pirates are the Brethren, and I'm sure would be happy to reinstate you as well. :-)
