Failure to moderate forums on weekends

(Anyone who missed it, there are about five or six of the same thing in each of about a dozen forums that I know of.)

I'll check the profile of some of the more active moderators to see if they've been around lately, then send them a direct PM with a link to the problem. It gets faster responses, and sometimes works on the weekends. But I agree that moderation seems to fall seriously short on the weekends when the forums probably need moderation the most.

All things considered, compared to past experience, that's a "fast" response!

Well, it is amateurishness. Moderators are voluntaries, so they gain nothing from having the responsibility of keeping this forum clean. Even BioMods probably aren't paid to linger around the forums on weekends. It is only natural the forums are less clean on the weekends.Gorath Alpha wrote...
IMO, it's just plain stupid, and smacks of Amateurishness. I have been checking a forum that has very low message traffic, in which 6-8 copies of the Spam had been posted yesterday afternoon. all with the plural of "hoody" probably misspelled (it probably should have been "hoodies"). There is only one of the spams still there right now.

so if you see something sketchy on the forums, don't hesitate to message one or two of the Moderators and we'll get to it when we are able to. Thank you.

I've done moderation on a couple forums. What a thankless job that was. Had the benefit of moderators around the world, though, so we covered most of the time zones.

since they didn't schedule their spam attack wtih me, i wasn't online when it originally happened. i've been responding today to reports of his work still literring various forums, so I've been cleaning them up. Also, expecting us to be perfect is a little unreasonable. Except me, of course. I'm awesome.Gorath Alpha wrote...
The same commercial account that spewed the flood of Spam on Saturday was never locked down, and repeated more of the same today. Really excellent moderation there, sure it was.

Remember small ones the WOO of DOOM is only one moderator and hes doing his best. Just send them a message about the spammers. It worked and thank you for cleaning house when you could. You get a cookie!

I believe that BioWare need to hire some European or "early morning" moderators for this forum. It's ~9:40am on the East Coast of America, so it's still quite early across all of the American continent, but it's 2:40pm in the UK. European moderators can respond to early morning (BioWare Time) or very late night spam attacks when no one in America can.
There's a spam attack going on as I type this in the DA:O forums, and it's going to cause massive damage in terms of hiding recent topics because no one is able to respond to it in time. I think he's buried at least 2 whole pages worth of topics, and he's showed no signs of stopping. Other topics across the whole website have been spammed by this person, yet no one is seemingly able to take care of it.
If you look at the speed the DA2 boards move, along with places like Off-Topic, more moderators are needed and they need to be across a wider range of time zones to maximise the efficiency and minimise the level of damage spam bots (or trolls/spammers) cause to the forums.

As Stanley Woo stated, we depend on fellow community members to give us a heads up when there are issues that need a Moderator's attention.

The activity I mentioned wasn't subtle and an extreme case by all means, causing 2.5 pages (roughly) of necroing, spamming and pushing valid and recent topics behind. If a moderator was available at the time then the "damage" done would have been considerably less. I'm not saying anyone's at fault, but it does reinforce the point that the forum needs more moderators.

My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular, but more in answer to the overall concerns.
And I agree, it would be good to have more Moderators in more time zones besides North America and Australia. I don't know how many, if any, are in Europe.

This site has so very many weaknesses, compromises, and amateurish errors, I wonder if the spammer used someone else's account to post all of the foolishness? The account I saw the spam from now has a personal block naming myself, which it did not have yesterday, and if the original owner of the account actually blocked me, he has had no reason to do so that I can think of, and had never previously shown any tendency to behave so conspicuously badly.
