And it's certainly a good question wrt Bethany - she's a mage, and she wears mage robes. I can hardly imagine why she would be there if it wasn't for Ostagar. Perhaps she didn't know Hawke at all, or only when she was very young, and when she managed to escape from Ostagar she remembered she's supposed to still have a brother there? Which still wouldn't explain the Mage origin for Hawke unless he's also at Ostagar or an apostate... Hmm. Intriguing.

Yeah i'm confused over the whole Circle Mage or Apostate as well and how Bethany knows you are her brother if she is indeed a Circle Mage, But I am sure Bioware will find a way to explain is I mean they have David Gaider so...

Flemeth in her dying breath tells hawke... "There is another haw-haw-haw............ :pinched:."

Well it is a possibility that Hawke's parents or other family members tell him he has a sister in the Circle, or the other way arround Bethany finds out that she still has a brother. And after the battle of Ostagar was lost she decided that since everybody thinks she's dead she is going to start a new live with her brother.

EDIT: damn ninja'ed by iTomes.Posted Image

well i would bet that bethany was at ostagar, and that she decided to play "dead" after ostagar. i could also imagine her or hawke being wounded, losing some time, then going back to the circle and find it ...well... not in the best condition.

Could be a possibility...

I am sure the Story-tellers want characters born in Ferelden. There is a very strong precedent for that!

Orzammar (all the remaining major Dwarfs) : Ferelden
Andraste: Ferelden
Dane : Ferelden
Flemeth: Ferelden
PC GW in DA:O : Ferelden
Hawke: Ferelden
Bethany:?

Another possiblity, imo, is Bethany is like Anders, and escaped the Circle after her Harrowing. She probably remembered she lived in Lothering (if indeed Hawke is from there), and ran off there. Maybe she destroyed her phylactery. "shrugs"

What was special about PC that she saved him when She could have saved darkspawn-pwning-archie-ass-kicking-architect-for-dinner-hurlock-for-nightcap-High-dragon-for-breakfast Duncan?

Duncan was not at the top of a tower, so he was not as easy to grab during the battle.

Wait.

Are you telling me that Flemeth became a Dragon.. climbed the three floors of the tower and THEN rescued the PC?

Hm... I thought about the whole playing dead thing after Ostagar, but I forget about her phylactery...

On topic: Who says Hawke was in Ostagar? Is it confirmed information or just a possibility we are talking about? I would find it rather odd and ... disappointing. I rather want Hawke being in Lothering for his own reasons, which lead to him having to leave Ferelden. Just a surviver of ostagar+deserter is just too much of a bad start.

It is just speculation. Personally I hope he wasn't. Ostagar is done with, I want to just move on :P

My favorite question.

Because she needed someone who could knock her daughter up.

its not official. Just speculation. But a well-founded one..

Think about it..

Hawke has to grow up in 10 years and become THE MOST FREAKING IMPORTANT PERSON IN THEDAS. IN 10 YEARS!!!!!

Thus I doubt he was a baby at Loethering. He definitely has some training with Magic or Blades... Have you thought of that?

He can become a mage in the RPG and that Sir, requires practice: Either from the Circle tower OR from some unknown mentor....

So if he is a good warrior or a mage AND he is at Loethering during a battle that went on right next to its south-pole, he very well may have been in the fight!

As I said, a well meant conjecture...

Well I think he was quite skilled and able already, much like the Warden at the start of the game was. But his business in Lothering doesn't have to be connected to the Blight. Maybe he freed his sister from the Templar's there. Maybe he was hunted by Templars. It seems to me the Templars will be playing quite a role in Kirkwall as well.

About the templars: I agree thoroughly. There is crowd that is hungry for the Chantry's blood for some reason.

Duncan was coming to the end of his rope, the taint was about to take him. Otherwise she probably would have.

That wouldn't be so strange accually.
But then it would be a Prologue quest I think, Bethany will come to Lothering warning you about the oncoming Darkspawn attack, and later on she tells you about being you're sister she convinces you to destroy the Phylactery, and after that you also have some pissed of Templars to worry about as well as Darkspawn.

Then I guess you already knew each other and find out you're siblings later, and you both try to hunt for your Phylacterys before escaping to the Free Marches.
That's the best story I can come up with.

that would make sense i guess....^^ propably you are a little older then she is so you still remember her^^. it could be that you come with her to ostagar when you are a mage. as non mage i could imagine you huntin/scouting/whatever through the wilds and finding some young familiar looking sorceress. she thanks you for rescuiing her and says "ahhh by the way im bethany hawke" or something.

Hawke being a mage or a warrior or Rogue, all three Origins, fit into him being at Ostagar... I don't really know... Just pure speculation... This means Occam's razor-wise easier to place him at Loethering....

About his sister....I don't really know... Perhaps a later quest would be Templars coming to catch them, where you can explain that you did not go Maleficarum, but were fleeing the darkspawn if playing good oriented character.. or.. you know the option.

Other important thing is that all Major characters of DA universe have some link to Ferelden. ALL until now...
