Would it be possible to make the chest so that the contents show up on ALL your characters IE i start i new game and when i go to camp there is stuff in the chest that ive left.Like a shared chest that you get in games like sacred 2 etc.would be good for starting a new game on a higher difficulty.

While it won't persist when you start a new game you could use this approach to create a version that starts with items in it rather than starting empty.

Getting a chest's contents to persist between characters sounds like it might well be impossible. Under normal circumstances, any data is going to be saved to a particular character's game save, and you're not going to be able to get at that from a different character.

Maybe it's possible to dump the data to a central file, and access it, but I would not count on it. I think you'd be better off, if you just want some extra stuff, simply making a container and sticking whatever it is you wanted in it.

You will need to work out some way of using external storage. as mentioned before the data of what is inside the chest is held in the save file.
