Posted ImagePosted ImageOne thing that I noticed in DA:O was that the two mages who could join your party were very much geared towards one type of role within the party, though Morrigan was slightly less so than Wynne. I play mages myself so it wasn't an issue, but I can imagine that people who played warriors and rogues might have had trouble. After all, Wynne was extremely good at healing, but not much else, and Morrigan was the opposite; she could attack the enemy a bit and had a LITTLE (and I do mean little) bit of crowd control but she had almost no buffing or healing.  While I think that this definately gave their characters flavor, I wonder if, in DA2, we'll get at least one mage companion who is more balanced.  Maybe a few damage dealing spells, a little bit of healing, and a little bit of crowd control so that they can deal with most situations. Anders struck me as this type, unless my memory is faulty. So what do you think?

PS. Of course I'm aware that you can control their spells once they level up, but that takes a lot of time considering just how predefined they are. Ex. I find it very difficult to turn Wynne into a blaster for example (I don't actually do that, but it would be difficult in my opinion).

I don't think it was as big a deal with Morrigan because you got her very early on.

I'm not necessarily criticizizing her,I'm just saying that it was very clear that she was a healer and it was hard to make her into much else.

I'm hoping they let us level the characters up from the beginning rather than just being given something close to our level. This as you say is a problem with Wynne but its also a problem with other characters, for example I've had Oghren join me at about level 15 and being unable to wear massive armour. Hell, I've recruited Loghain at level 22 and he's not been able to wear massive armour!

What I'd also prefer is if they gave more skillpoints per level, but allowed players to put multiple points into a skill to improve it. You could therefore have a strong build geared towards one role and skill subset, or have a versatile multipurpose approach.

Wynne can be just as good if not stronger than Morrigan in terms of spellpower. Vessel of the Spirit gives Wynne a big SP boost. If you give her Mana Clash and the Entropic Death combo, she'll pretty much be able to KO anyone she sees

Posted ImagePosted ImageI think they should do what KOTOR 2 did (I can't remember number one's system for this). You got a character with a certain base level. Example: I'm level five and I get Kreia who's level three.  Up to level three she's already set up, but I get to level her up two more levels. It worked like that for all the characters-they were somewhat set up for you so they were usable to someone without a lot of knowledge, but you could catch them up a few levels to your own.
