You make a pretty good point, but that may be because I've found the same difficulties. When the character is voiced for you (especially one not so similar to your real being), it makes it more like you are watching the game instead of playing in it. That's how I feel, anyway. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but I do think it makes it easier to play. I feel less attached to my actions when my character has his/her own voice.

So are you saying that you find it easier to play when you feel more attached to your actions, or less?

Hm, I've never had this problem. I roll mostly male characters (I'm a woman) and regardless of the game, I've never had much problems getting inside their head. I never look at my characters as personal avatars, but as fictional constructs. Of course, I never play MMOs either, so I've never had a need for a character to treat as an author.

Actually, playing as the opposite gender usually makes it easier for me to stay in character and keep my personal beliefs out of the matter. Maybe I'm just weird.

Seeing as how one of the male bloodelf /flirt lines is "Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?" it actually seems pretty appropriate.

For me first and third person are all about the level of emersion into a game regardless of gender. As wonderful as any character created in a game (or series) may be, if it is voiced and prerendered, it feels like I am "borrowing" or "leading" them through the game/story instead of playing as them. For example in GOW I never saw myself as Kratos nor did Kratos feel like my character. That's not to say I didn't enjoy that story (1+2 atleast) but it was the story of Kratos. And, that's why I am amongst the crowd who is disappointed by BioWare's decison for DA2. It depersonalizes it for me.

I don't think that's weird, it was just nice to have a game where I could identify so much with my characters without feeling like it broke the story.  I dislike a lot of the "action girl" stuff in movies, where it's obvious they're just sticking some female in for the sake of having a woman in it, but in the context of Ferelden a female hero felt pretty natural.  That was a pleasant surprise.

So if you already prefer a gaming experience that's more removed, you ought to be pleased with the trend.  I'm pretty bummed about it, however.  It irks me to think that they're working long hours on a voiced PC right now when they could be putting time and money into other things I might actually want to pay for.

actually, knowing Cam Clarke was voicing him certainly helped influence my choice... who, now that I am thinking about it, should provide his talent to a major NPC in DA2.

i often play fem chr (see profile pic) but never romance a male NPC just felt strange a bloke playing as a fem romanceing another bloke anyon elde like that? or do you get so into you chr that romanceing a bloke dose not bother you?
