Judge the graphics when the comes out, and not when it is still in its early stages.
They put them out to advertise the changes. Why shouldn't we judge them now? They said 'Wow! Better graphics!' and gave us those. They didn't say, 'Here's an early draft.' They may be, but you can't go on about how awesome they are and then not expect a reaction if they aren't.
I actually think that this guy or girl talks a lot of sense here

I dont think the graphics worse. Its just a different type of graphic.
Really? Environment textures look really low-res.
I gotta admit, I'm not being so technical. Well, okay, I am a little. That kind of plasticy look is a pet peeve of mine, but I'm mostly talking about the design side of things. I just think it's stylistically awful.

I couldn't disagree more. While the graphics weren't cutting edge, they were an excellent backdrop for the action--which is worlds more important anyway. The DA2 graphics are distractingly weird, not something that helps with immersion.

"We changed art directors. The art director on Dragon Age 2 is the same guy who was the art director on Jade Empire. "
It's not that the screens that we've been shore are from such an "early" build that it looks that way....it's because THAT'S the art direction they decided to go with...to give DA a more distinct look.
"There was some commentary that Dragon Age could have been more visually unique. We said, 'Okay! You want visually unique? Here's visually unique.' It's usually a combination of things that drives our decision-making. It's not like we're designed by committee. Nor are we beholden to fan and press feedback. But we really do look at all that stuff."
Well I hope you're reading the forums right now because making the game look like a cartoon is not the distinct visual I think most fans want!
So everyone "trying" to explain away the scenes as incomplete or Alpha...I'm very afraid that these are simple an example of what they decided to do withe the art style.
This is the way it looks....

guys you are complaing over and over again about something that is in an alpha stage.....not even one single game starts with great graphics....in 8 months everything will be better, i trust them.

Yes, so did I, that's why I'm saying they shouldn't have messed with it. Tweaks and texture quality are one thing, a wholesale stylistic revamp of a known world is something else entirely. And I also said that it may improve, but that what they showed us as an example of the 'better graphic', isn't. Trust isn't the issue. It's just a fact.

Art "style" is simply that...the style.
That doesn't just simply change. Slapping on higher rez textures doesn't change it either. This is the way they want it to look.
Go look at Jade Empire and imagine now that style in DA (and it seems even more stylized like a 3D flash game and Samurai Jack + Plastic blood splashed everywhere) and there you go....
This has "fail" literally painted all over it

This scanned picture of default Hawke and Bethany looked quite well, but most of the released screenshots so far were disappointing. While we both agree this isn't improved graphics, quite the contrary, evidently someone will like them. You can argue about looks, but it's just opinion, not fact.

You guys do know that's pre-alpha footage with out dynamic lighting, or high quality renders? it's not gonna look like that at all when it's done.
If we were only talking about lighting and rendering, that would make a difference, but we aren't. And that doesn't invalidate the point that if you are going to make a point of how much better something is, maybe the first thing you show people should be, you know, better.

Either that, or by "super hot" they were being quite literal, and meant "dry desert"
I'll be checking out the preview at SDCC, so it'll be interesting to see how it looks in motion at this stage.

No dev or any other BW official has ever said that the screens are Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta or anything...that's the "go-to" excuse used by people who "hope" that's the case.
Imo they wouldn't have released the scenes to hype the game IF they weren't too far off the final mark!!!
