The new graphics are way cleaner and less overcoloured than the old ones also everything just looks way more volumous probably due to both better and less overdone textures and actual light sources rather than just random shining effects. Furthermore you can tell that everything blends in a lot better creating an atmospheric whole. The awkwardness look that would occur when you wore your shiny armor in contrast to the muddy ugly enviroments in Dragon Age 1 is gone.

And this is just from the few early screens we've seen so far.

Which Ogre looks better?

And here's both games in a desert setting.

If you really think that DA2 looks better in those screenshots, then I will have to respectfully disagree.

I think the new "style" is just a reflection of the old Jade Empire's art director's way of designing art...the way he draws and what he personally thinks looks good.

he's the new Art Director and making DA2 look this way because he thinks it looks better, and somehow got the suits to agree and get onboard :(

It's a detailed realistic look vs a less detailed more stylized look....

There are fans of both....but if I were to bet, I'd bet the vast majority of FANS of DAO will be thinking WTF happened and why did you mess with something that sold so many copies and worked so good before????

And looked a hell of a lot better.....

First, the graphics are in the early stages.

Second, graphics aren't that big of deal. I love playing Dragon Age Origins, along with those graphics.

We haven't seen screenshots of DA2 on the PC yet.

Atranox: I prefer the old Ogre design although I think the new grunts look better. But youre missing the point here. Were comparing pre alpha images to those of a released game so naturally the pre alpha ones will look a lot less polished. Still there are some pointers which you can look for!

Look at how the characters and creatures just don't blend in with the enviroments colourwise aswell as in level of detail in the Origins screens and then look at the new ones were they actually do.

Right because the first screenshots are obviously inherent of what the game will look like six months to a year from now.

The new graphics were clearly superior to the old ones. You might not like the style but you can't deny that the new graphics are technically and functionally superior.

Sure I can.  I know what my eyes tell me.

Only to whiners. To people who employ common sense, it doesn't. Not to step on anyone's toes, but seriously.

C'mon, man! We can disagree without 'whiners' getting thrown in there. It's two different opinions about pixels, not worthy of throwing insults....

On a separate topic.... The knockers on red hat girl tells me absolutely everything I need to know about The Witcher. I don't care how good the graphics are--so not going there.

I should also note that I'm not a graphics snob. To me it's just a set for the characters. I only notice when I truly think they're awful.

Graphics are not even a minor concern of mine. DAO looked beautiful as it is. This graphic realism competitiveness/obsession bothers me, frankly, within our gaming industry.

These are early screenshots for DA2. You should have seen the pre-Alpha and Alpha screenshots for DAO. Comparing a full end product with pre-Alpha/Alpha screenshots is quite ridiculous anyway.

Calling people who whine about the alpha art being cr@p ARE whiners. I don't see how that phrase is insulting if directed towards the people who seem to get their jollies off at saying how bad the game is going to be.

The two human models they have shown look good in comparison to DA 1, but everything else looks rough.

DA 2 should have been on a separate engine, seriously its not going to compete with the likes of *points to the Witcher* in that department. Which is why we had that lame ad campaign that was all CG

No one would even be talking about it if it weren't for the unwanted (to me anyway) style change, and the fact that they dissed their own work in DA:O. That fairly begs for comparative analysis no mater what the date. It's like they said 'we make great cake' then showed us a dog biscuit. Don't show us the biscuit, unless you want us talking about it.

Yeah these graphics not only suck but look too different then the original heck I wouldn't even request better graphics then the original just keep em the same and it would be fine with me. Now if this is a shift of graphics style that is going to try to reach to a new player base while screwing over the old one which a lot of games are doing to day bioware can forget about getting my money.

Riiiight.... So if we see something we think is ugly and say so, we're whiners. You know we didn't sneak into Bioware's offices, steal those screenshots, and post them on the web, right?

And give me a break! You think we WANT to be displeased about every freaking thing we've been hearing after anticipating news about DA2 for months? Really? Why do you think we're on this board then? Because we hate DA:O? Is that why I've replayed it more than any game I've ever owned? Yes. It gives me serious jollies that I see the best first person RPG I've ever played turning into something else entirely. Whee. What goddamn fun.

Yes, it's the user-base fault.
