First, the graphics are in the early stages.

Then don't show it until it looks decent.
Gives bad first impression.

Only to whiners. To people who employ common sense, it doesn't. Not to step on anyone's toes, but seriously.

Yes, it's the user-base fault.

For over-reacting? Yes.

I feel the need to point out again (I think I said this before) that, according to David, the graphics already look better than they do in the screenshots from GI. Who knows how much they'll improve between now and march?

Honestly, I think the environments can be fixed with a small contrast tweak on our graphics settings. I like the faces a lot better, and like... Bethany, I think her name was... mage's robe better. Besides, I can deal with less-than-freagin-awesome graphics. It's not that they're bad, really. Really look at them, are they bad?

The DA2 pic themselves are not very clear.

Maybe your enlarging a originally a bit smaller pic?

Besides comparing a finished product with one that is not finished is not a good comparison. Try to find a pic of DA:O unfinished then compare it to the unfinished DA2.

As I said before, I'm actually pretty tolerant about graphics. I don't ask for much. Personally, I liked the ones from DA:O. The deep roads got across the grand scale of the former empire, some of the architecture was quite beautiful, and it felt like a world that real people might live in. I comment about the environment because it's so noticable, but I can see that being fixed. Personally, I don't like the art style at all. I don't care for the look of the people--it looks more like a comic book than a video game to me. The ogre and the darkspawn...well, they're just...bad. They talked about the new style as an improvement. Is it really so surprising that those that find it anything but that would comment? It's a logical progression: 'The new art style better reflects Dragon Age'--release of pictures--fan reaction 'uh, joking, right?'

Riiiight.... So if we see something we think is ugly and say so, we're whiners.

If you over-react, yes.

And give me a break! You think we WANT to be displeased about every freaking thing we've been hearing after anticipating news about DA2 for months? Really? Why do you think we're on this board then? Because we hate DA:O? Is that why I've replayed it more than any game I've ever owned? Yes. It gives me serious jollies that I see the best first person RPG I've ever played turning into something else entirely. Whee. What goddamn fun.

I'm obviously not talking about users like you when I say things like that, am I?

Well, how would I know that, since I've said that I think they're ugly, and that's the whiners/not whiners dividing line?

I'm glad I'm not the only one not favoring this new art direction. The people look all right though.

Hopefully they'll get rid of the dwarf orangutan arms and the gigantic hands.

It's not necessarily that they're "bad", it's just that they should most definitely not be a noticeable step down from the original.  Of course it's early and we have to take all information, including screenshots, with a grain of salt.  But still...it's about 8 months away, which isn't a lot of time.  For example, Crysis 2 screenshots were released about a year in advance and the game looked absolutely phenomenal.  There are a few games out in late 2011 with both old and new engines that look amazing as well.  DA2 certainly isn't a game that is expected to put out cutting-edge graphics...but they certainly shouldn't be so sub-standard, especially when DAO (which has mediocre graphics) looks better based on what little we've seen so far.

But it is early.  Time will tell.  Hopefully the screenshots we've seen so far just suffer from a lack of lighting, decal, and temporary low-res environmental textures...which isn't uncommon for a new game.:)

Bioware mention game look "super hot" and  work on technical aspects.
That seems to be the titanic of over-reactions.

David Gaider said that in his opinion, the graphics already look better than they do in those screenshots. The desert threw me off too, but it might not be that bad when we see it with more current graphics.

I don't like those spikey darkspawn armors, that looks so 80's

The close-up pic of Hawke and his sister looks DAMN GOOD.

Everything else looks... odd. No purple ogres? No zombified Darkspawn?

I understand, they didn't want people to relate it to LOTR [god knows the darkspawn looked way too much like orks] but I think they moved them in the wrong direction.

They should have made them even MORE frightening and alien.

I wonder how much of my lack of faith in the graphics has to do with the fact that 'super-hot' sounds so much like something Paris Hilton would say?

The game is still in development...
Though i'm not a huge fan of the new Darkspawn look.

You guys keep saying that like we don't know.... Repeating it isn't going to make a difference. If they change the style, I'll be wrong and very glad of it. If they don't, well, that's one ugly ogre.

The second set of images looked a lot nicer than the first. And I've read some fairly convincing arguments for the change-- these may be more realistic, lore-wise, as darkspawn. These ones look like diseased versions of their original race-- the previous ones looked like they were decaying, making you wonder why they would bother eating, because it's doubtful that their bodies could function in that form anyway. And the previous ones had a kind of 'reptilian' look about them, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Perhaps the presence of the archdemon affected a change in the darkspawn of DAO to give them that reptilian look, but 'naturally' they look more like a diseased version of their original species.

I still don't like the way their armor looks, though. Even if one could argue that the naturally disorganized darkspawn would just haphazardly attach things to their bodies for protection, whereas it was, again, the direction of the archdemon which allowed them to organize and equip themselves properly.

Thats how I see it. The armor designs in Origins looked way too detailed for creatures like the Darkspawn to make themselves and their Ghoul slaves couldn't all been smiths before turning. They seem more barbaric now, almost like they're trying to mimic humans, but can't grasp our aesthetic sense.

Backgrounds and environments make all the difference... I'm guessing the graphics will be relatively the same to where we left off, not worse. However that doesn't mean environments won't be any prettier :/ It's all about the presentation in these games.

You guys do know that's pre-alpha footage with out dynamic lighting, or high quality renders? it's not gonna look like that at all when it's done.

No dev or any other BW official has ever said that the screens are Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta or anything...that's the "go-to" excuse used by people who "hope" that's the case.

Imo they wouldn't have released the scenes to hype the game IF they weren't too far off the final mark!!!

*sigh* It's pretty obivious it's pre Alpha,in fact it's blatahatly obvious, They even said the sword he is using is a place holder, If the models for your mian character aren't even done yet, yea it's pretty well assumed you haven't even hit alpha yet.  but if your a uninformed know nothing crybaby then I imagine it's hard to spot and alot of games show pre alpha footage to amass hype. Render effects and lighting make a MASSIVE diffrence. it's Litterally night and day.

Yea and your point? the RED Engine is very Pretty, but so what? There are plenty of other RPGs that look better then DA:O but that doesn't really mean anything.
