TW2 looks crazy good, and Geralt looks fantastic.

But someone said it a while back and I 100% agree with them: Bioware's new engine turned out to suck.

So now they must 'stylize' the game's appearance a la World of Warcraft, or Old Republic, so that there is a legit reason why the graphics don't NEED to be awesome, thus saving them huge amounts of money and salvaging a bad situation for their shareholders.

Not necessarily bad - The image with Hawke in the foreground and his sister in the background looks great. However, damn near everything else looks at least as bad as DAO did.

Meh It's still clearly better than the old one and it's not THAT stylized (luckily, cause I hate WOW and Old Republics gfx aswell) but I still do wonder what the hell their graphicians are doing and why they don't fire them or hire additional ones or at least do something.

maybe it is an alpha screenshot

Yeah but we sort of know inductively what kind of graphics to expect from Bioware. Although they must've got EA people doing their graphics in ME or something because those games actually look good.

They look real to me. What the hell is with the prudery around here? Some women are just built like that.

CD Projekt is not beholden to anyone, and thank god. They make that clear when they talk about the game.

It's not about prudery, it's about the portrayal of women. Look at that picture. Her face is almost entirely covered, because not only does she not need a face, it's not where they want you looking. In case that, and the dress she's virtually popping out of, aren't enough, they add two necklaces to draw the eye to the important bits. It's incredibly calculated. Bioware has never done anything like that, and more power to them.

So you didn't play ME2 I take it?

When I see that image, I'm reminded that with CD Projekt red, they are unapologetic about their approach. Some of what makes The Witcher great is the 'in your face' factor. There's foul language, gore, etc.  And I believe the woman in that picture is a prostitute, which explains her apparel.

Trust me, compared to the first game, the women in TW2 will get a more dignified portrayal.

No, not my thing, but I saw pictures. I'm thinking you're talking about...Miranda, was it? Big breasts, but her portrayal is about more than that. It's not only about the breast size. The bioware character looks strong, competant, and stares you right in the face. The woman from The Witcher is reduced to being nothing but breasts. Her being a prostitute has nothing to do with it, unless their statement is 'prostitutes aren't people.'

BW got some flack from a feminist blog/page for this shot:

To be fair, that camera angle wasn't even a little bit necessary in the context of the scene.

Subtlety is underrated.

IMO, the models looks great, the only problem with the models I have is that the darkspawn don't have much taint showing, but that could either be an unfinished texture map, or story-related.

The environment doesn't look too bad, the floor texture could be better and it's a bit flat considering in the screenshots shown, it's usually in some rocky terrain.

I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as DA:O though, DA:O had great faces but the body models had little variety although the environments did look good, but we've seen next to nothing in terms of environments.

Okay, I hadn't seen that. Point taken. That's pretty bad.

The major female characters in the Witcher (Shani, Triss, Toruviel, etc) are strong, competent women without whom Geralt would've failed his endeavours many times over.

The Witcher setting is largely based on the dark Middle Ages, and the female role in the game reflects that. On the other hand, there's the Lodge of Sorceresses, who secretly control all politics behind teh scenes (similar to the Bene Gesserit of Dune) and there are some very powerful female fighters as well in the books (Ciri).

That looks cropped. If it wasn't, well, there better be a good in-game reason for it, but if it is, it's impossible to draw any conclusions about the shot from that.

We are a bit off topic folks, partly because of me. Sorry.

And I imagine the devs are tired of their game being flayed by comparisons to The Witcher 2.

Looks more like a screenshot out of an animation file. The camera probably sets on her face, eventually.

It's just a cropped screenshot from Samara's introduction.

Apart from technical issues the problem is that Bioware actually seem to think that they could amaze people with these bland, unimaginative and downright fugly pictures, which lack any sense of atmosphere. This is very sloppy for Biowares standards and it worries me.

Anyone notice the stylistic disparity of the in-game screenshots with the dialog cut scene of Hawke and Bethany?

Maybe the latter is currently the more finished of the two. It certainly looks it.

It's possible they released the images to show how the models are improving compared to Dragon Age: Origins.

The look fits the Witcher setting: All women are objects only good for sex.

It really brings attention to how many believe a 'dark settings' are a means to act out disgusting fantasies.

This is character design from the Witcher too, you know....

i believe (based on released gameplay video) that particular character with extra cleavage is mistress of a ****house. She's simply dressing for the part/advertising her business, so to speak.

I like the way Hawke looked, he looks like he is almost a complete graphic, but no so much the rest...I think they jumped the gun on releasing screenshots, but Bioware hasnt let me down before, so I will wait until the game is released to render judgement.

Basing your opinion on a games graphics based on a small amount of screenshots, that makes sense.
