Do you think they'll be any black, Asian, etc. NPC's in DA2?

No, they should get slightly darker depending on how far north they come from.
Well you know what i mean. I just mean black or Asian "looking". I know "black" people or Asians exist in the Dragon Age universe.

So... you are looking for superficial reasons to write off a game that we know next to nothing about?

Did you also expect there would be a lot of whites, latinos, and blacks in Jade Empire?

Maybe, if they do exist then Thedas hasn't made contact with them yet. That would be a cool plotline for a game set in a country bordering the edges of the map though.

It would be nice to get out of the pseudo Northern European rut most Tolkienesque western fantasy falls into. Hopefully Kirkwall isn't just Ferelden with new textures.

Kirkwall in particular has a history of Tevinter, Qunari, and Orlesian conquest, and at least under the Imperium there was an active slave trade that (confirm, anyone?) may have included human captives as well as elves.

In other and more isolated places all the different folks that could have got there would have interbred into some average for that area...

Plus Kirkwall was originally a city of slaves and slavers.
So it may or may not be as diverse. Years of interbreeding may have uniformed their appearance somewhat.
Remember, the only people we've seen in screenshots are, presumably, from Ferelden. Or a dwarf.

Darker-skinned, not black. Europeans do have a number of different skin tones and Rivain is still apart of Thedas which is analogus to Europe.

Looking at the description of Rivain, it's not like dark skinned people in Europe.
They're not members of the Chantry and follow a syncretic religion.

Personally, I appreciate the historical parallels between the Dragon Age universe and mideival Europe, which are much better done than most fantasy settings. If you pay attention, there are clear, interesting connections, like the Tevinter as the Byzantines, the Exalted Marches as Crusades, etc. I certainly wouldn't call the Dragon Age setting a rut and I certainly don't think it would be improved by simply changing the demographics to make it look like a modern society or by creating a setting that combines globalization, modern social interconnectivity, and cultural diffusion with swords, knights, and castles. Obviously I'm not against having a diverse cast, but I do expect there to be an explanation, i.e. we see different looking people if we go to a far away country/continent, or because they are travelers or traders from such a place.
To me, modern diversity depends on globilization which depends in turn on technology that connects far away places, like steamships or at least highly advanced sailing ships. That doesn't really fit with swords, shields, and heavy armor.

I made a topic about why I was disapointed in DA2 that didn't mention race. It got killed because apparently there are a lot of topics on that.angj57 wrote...

Jade empire is based on Chinese mythology, Dragon age is just vanilla fantasy, and despite the annoying music has no cultural ties to anything.SDNcN wrote...
