Do you think they'll be any black, Asian, etc. NPC's in DA2?

Jade empire is based on Chinese mythology, Dragon age is just vanilla fantasy, and despite the annoying music has no cultural ties to anything.

That's complete and utter crap. As I said in my other posts, the setting is completely interconnected with medival European history, it's not "vanilla" just because it is primarily based on the West.  If you pay any attention to the dialogue and codex, you will see references to the crusades, the fall of the Roman Empire, the wars between the Byzantines and Ottomans, middle-ages German history as the Anderfells, and more.

The difference is that the connections in Dragon Age are subtle, whereas the connections in Jade Empire are deliberately designed to seem "exotic" to Western audiences.

'Vanilla' fantasy in general, and Dragon Age in particular, is based around medieval Europe.

A more diverse set of human party members may be nice. Hardly on my list of priorities, though.

Okay, this makes me wonder. Since we have a sister party member, will her skin color change based upon what the player chooses for Hawke? Or maybe they'll just do what they did with DA:O instead.

So is Orlais, home of hooker assassins and the head of the church, France or Rome?

I haven't seen anything like that since Deus EX.

Fallout 3 had something like that. If you were a black PC, your dad was black too, etc.

France has never produced an accommodating person in it's entire history. Leliana disproves your 'Ferelden is Europe' theory.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that because he was barely in the game. Probably something about not being able to afford the voice actor.

Black people didn't exist in medieval days.

Darkspawn don't exist in any time period, this is fantasy.

Darkspawn are probably based off Zulu warriors.  Have you seen that movie? Bloody good, millions of them, Michael Caine gets owned at the end. Thinks guns make him superior over people with  sheilds and sticks, but sheer logistics of numbers overcome them.  That's sort of like the Dragon Age story.

Looking at the description of Rivain, it's not like dark skinned people in Europe.

They're not members of the Chantry and follow a syncretic religion.

I'd still think they  would have a similar racial background to the other Thedosians rather than have their own seperate one similar to Africans. Antivans are geographically closest to the Rivaini and while Zevran is pretty dark-skinned, you can't say the same for characters like Ignacio and Cesar.

What are you talking about? Why do the darkspawn win at Ostagar? Why  does the grey warden need to unite people? It's because  A) Lemonade head was over-confident and B) People too complacent not taking blight seriously and not give a crap about Grey warden anymore.  it's pretty much Zulu with bits in between to stretch the game out.

Bah, I was looking for pictures of weapons to show this was pure fantasy. All I got was Allistair naked. I think I also wanted to point out that commom soldiers running around with decent arms and armor also points to pure fantasy.

What I mean is that they're culturally different. Race and skin tone are just superficial differences. The Rivaini are outlier to the rest of mainstream Thedosian culture. They might as well be the "foreigners" from another land because Rivain does seem foreign.

Two things.
1 You don't know what you're talking about.
2 You're comparing black people to monsters.

Right.....because the savage creatures that spread pestilence, terror, and death everywhere are based off a group of Africans. I totally see your point.Posted Image

True, that does seem entirely plausible. If this is the case, due to their location my guess would be they came over by sea, possibly from where the Qunari originated -- migrating long before the Qunari began their own.
