Posted ImagePosted ImageFor some reason I thought that Thedas was the entire world, but I now know that it's a continent. Do we know what the entire world is called?

I don't think we've ever gotten a name.

That's what I was afraid of. I'd love some more geography, considering the world is much bigger than Thedas. Of course, they might not have defined anything yet, leaving it open to change for future installments.

The continent is probably a lot larger than Thedas. We don't know anything about what's outside the borders of Thedas.

Given that Thedas is THE Dragon Age Setting, I don't think we'll ever leave it so I doubt we'll find out.

Huh. I thought it was the world, too.

At least we know the qunari lands are to the east of Thedas in another continent. So there is hope we can play there in the future even if not during the Dragon Age.

It's Earth. The entire game takes place in a previous Age of the Earth. The Dragon Age ended when ours began and eventually in 2011 magic will return to our planet and so will the other species -- Elves, Dwarves, Qunari, and even the Darkspawn. Also Flemeth has been sleeping the entire time, only recently awakened, she took the guise of Bobby Kotick.

I think its like with The Elder Scrolls. We will just get hints about other continents. Thedas is a big place with setings for many future games. In some time we will get to know what the planet is called, if it has a name. Since we call our planet "Earth" why would they have a special name for their world? Do they even know its a planet?

Maybe later we will get to se some of the outside world but only small parts I think.

Maybe they will create a new fantasy serien taking place on another continen. Like a Bioware-world.

One thing I would like to know is why the Qunari left their continen and came to Thedas.

My favorite part of TES is looking up into the night sky and seeing two moons. Where you set your fantasy realm is really a huge choice.

Unlike Tamriel, Thedas isn't the center of the world. I didn't like the fact that continents are relegated to the background just to support the main continent. I'd like Thedas to reach an Age of Exploration and hope we get to see at least what lies beyond the Western Mountains, the Korcari Wilds, or the Donarks. Why? Because it's nice for us to change Thedas in more ways than to be its savior.

"The world".

People typically don't name their planet until they become aware of the existence of other worlds.

I think that Thedas is "the known world". It's like Eurasia in the middle ages. Nobody knew there were whole other continents on the other side of the world.

When I say planet or world I mean ? is to Dragon Age as Toril is to the Forgotten Realms.

The planet has no name. It's "the world" to the people who live there because there's no need to give a specific name to something when it is the only one you know about.

Think of what we call our planet: Earth. Since the people of Thedas speak English, what would they call it? Ground?

Calling it "the world" is sound reasoning.

Nirn/Arena/Mundus/Grey Maybe.

Elder Scrolls reveals more cosmology than DA.

I just love Thedas, as a name. It's really cool to see when a forum moniker becomes the official name.

Quite true. If there's no other world, there's no reason to differentiate.
