So i've seen the gameplay screens and only saw Hawke wielding a qunari sword
I was really hoping to see a spear:(
Is the spear on the box art another one of those things where its only there to catch our attention?

not sure, one cannot fight like a spartan without a spear

wouldn't say so. but i think that the qunari sword was just there because the players already know it. theres something more familiar on the screens because of that.

with the changes in the graphics and the different models for ogres and darkspawn the hero swinging a spear would propably not look like dragon age. that way the first thing you think by seeing it is "ahhh its still dragon age, only looks different". besides, if theyre making spears theyll announce it a lil bigger then with a screen...

agreed
if you look closely to the middle of the sword like the handle you can kind of see like a rune
i think its a flame rune cause its orange
i wonder if they're making the runes appear on the sword now instead of those special effects:mellow:

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul added different kind of bow and arrows with diffrent stats and effect that visually show on the back of the wearer. Each from different races and cultures. and  I hope they add something like that. The whole bow and arrow thing in Dragon Age was pretty poor.

Plenty of mods for Dragon Age that add good-looking weapons. You can't say an aspect of Dragon Age sucked in comparison to another game because the other game had mods that fixed it.
Also not entirely spear related.

I've gotten everything from warglaives to deathsycthes to rapiers

BUT you cannot mod spears for some reason

I just did. It was a great idea, that should be implimented in the vanilla game.
Also spears sucks, unless it's something cool like Brad Pitt doing that dancing crap in Troy, who cares? Just a stupid pole. Impliment fishing rods instead.

why do spears suck?
swords are lame and boring and overused in every fcking fantasy. Magic sword this magic sword that. I want a 2 handed killing weapon!
here take Zhao yun for an example:

I would love to have spears and pole weapons, but they're probably not worth it -- it would suck unless a whole separate set of combat animations were done, and that's probably way too expensive.

Spears are awesome. As are quarterstaffs (also very under-represented in fantasy games). Personally I'm less crazy about maces and the like, but I recognize I'm in a minority and simply never use them.

That looks cool.  Like them Japanese movies, you know, when a sword is  swung really fast with force, it leaves a fire trail that can travel across distances.

i.e. 0: 46 www.youtube.com/watch

The assassin like electric wire was also pretty cool. Some of the  Japanese movies also use cloth as a weapon elegantly moving the wind  like a snake extension of limns which is also rather cool. Sure they  jump the boundaries of plausible, but it's a fantasy game we are playing, right?

But a spear would be nice, but  capes and horses (or at least brontos) as mount will be better

yep... but a real katana cut the wood of the 2h weapon plus the bones ^_^ , so a God-like smauria with a touch of Ninja and vamipirism   and maybe a little extra of nano-bots and android body can make the best  cut of meats on the world!!! :o:O  (hey, you say fantasy warrior, i take  it seriously "Fantasy")

Now being , a little realistic that spear could work fine against the  iron swords from ancient greeks because it's ligther and let do more movements witouth tired the warrior (and reach the riders)  don't even mention the light tinny swords after the Middle Age...

However the point it's: More weapons for DA2!!!! And riders could be neat , i'm still don't know if horse don't exist on DA:O or they weren't used.
