Make sure you don't install it to the program files directory. Use something like C:\\games\\black isle\\baldur's gate\\

Ok, I got the installer to launch in the most bizarre way. I was closing up for the night shutting down everything and suddenly the installer popped up whining about there not being a disc in the drive.

So I was like... wtf? ... and popped the disc in the drive. It's installing as we speak. I'm not quite sure what I closed that seems to have blocked the installer, it must have been either Firefox or Clementine (music player, damn good one too). So if nothing else try shutting down all your applications and see if that suddenly makes the installer get off of it's lazy behind.

On that note, widescreen patch seems to work great with BG2 on my NVidia GeForce 460GTX for as much as I've played it (wanted to play through them in order again, but started off in BG2 since 1 didn't want to install initially), I might try to get ToTu going with BG1 as the tab highlighting is pretty sweet (something only introduced in BG2 with ToB as well iirc), I'm not sure if there are any other significat differences, been way too long since I played BG1 (and only finished it once, unlike BG2 which I played so much I'm surprised my CDs still work...)

OMG YOU ARE MY HERO!!!! I started turning off programs one by one and running the BG1 setup with no compatibility stuff turned on until it worked. Turned out it was my web browser (Google Chrome). So now I have it working on Win7 64!!! YAY!!!!

From my experience Adobe plug-ins interfere with old game installers, so closing the browser or Yahoo messenger often solve the situation

Hello, I am not the most "tech savvy" person but hoping someone could help me out with installation problems on BG2 on win7...I have in the past been able to run baldur's gate II on a win 7 computer but it froze when asking me to put in disk 2, further I could never do the full install on this computer as for some reason it would freeze on disk two on CREANIM.bif . so I then went to some of these forums and went about uninstalling and reinstalling the game under a non "program files" folder and attempted to turn the minimum install into a full install by copying all of the files of the disks to my hard drive and editing the baldur.ini file. The files have been installed in the following directories:

C:\\games\\BgII - SoA\\
C:\\games\\BgII - SoA\\cd1
C:\\games\\BgII - SoA\\cd2
C:\\games\\BgII - SoA\\cd3
C:\\games\\BgII - SoA\\cd4

I then edited my baldur.ini  from Install type =1 to Install type =3

Further I changed the [alias] section to:
[Alias]
HD0:=C:\\games\\BGII - SoA\\
CD1:=C:\\games\\BGII - SoA\\CD1\\
CD2:=C:\\games\\BGII - SoA\\CD2\\
CD3:=C:\\games\\BGII - SoA\\CD3\\
CD4:=C:\\games\\BGII - SoA\\CD4\\

I then saved and closed the file.

Again, to be clear, i saw these instructions off a forum and thought it would work for me..so now I am trying to run this off of the computer (no cd in drive), and the screen pops up, and when i click play it still asks me to enter disk 2 in drive d:\\ (my cd drive), any help would be appreciated to tell me what I am doing wrong.....I havent played this game in years and it would sure be fun to try it again! Again, I am a novice when it comes to tech problems so any support would be appreciated.

It sounds like you've probably got a corrupted disk. Have you tried cleaning it / inspecting for scratches? I suspect that if you can't do a full install that means that you're likely to have problems with bugs even if you can get it to play.

I've still got my original disks, but bought both BG1 and BG2 fairly recently from GOG. The extra convenience of a fully patched download and not having to keep a disk in the cd drive was worth it to me ($10 for complete BG2). You might consider that if you can't solve your problem.

thanks for the speedy reply... yea the odd thing about this is I CAN get the game to play under the minimum install but then when I am leaving the first dungeon it asks me to insert cd 2 and then blows up, which is why i went the route discussed above....I actually have two seperate "cd 2s", so not sure if it is a corrupted disk or not....as long as this really can work with windows series 7 painlessly if i buy a new disk then it will be worth it for $10...i guess I forget how video game prices can drop so much from the original 40-50 from when it first came out!

Probably the reason you can't get out of the dungeon is that the files for the dungeon have installed properly, but those for the area on exit are missing or corrupted.

The GOG version certainly works on windows 7 - when installing use the options button to avoid installing to the Program Files location.

Just one note if you want to use BGT to play BG1 using the BG2 engine. In this case you would need both BG1 and BG2 from GOG - the GOG versions are each complete, but the format is not compatible with the disk versions so mixing them together in a BGT installation won't work.

You have disk 2 in the CD drive, as you must, then it still asks you to insert disk 2. The CD drive is ok? Check in Windows Explorer that disk 2 is shown in that drive.
You could check the file Baldur.ini.

The first time i installed in it the programs drive yes that was the problem, but now i tried to edit the baldur.ini file so I would not need any of the disks (as shown above). ya the disk drive is ok, in fact it runs fine as long as cd2 is in the drive, however last time it would not function once I was to leave the dungeon (so maybe Grond0 is right)...Ishad, what woudl I check in the baldur.ini file? I changed the file as discussed above....i reinstalled in outside of the program files (as shown above in c:\\games) so hopefully/maybe it will allow me out of the dunegeon this time...however I thought the editing of the baldur.ini file and the way I did above would get me aroudn having to use the CDs at all...will let yo know once I get to that point in the game, but maybe now that I have reinstalled outside of the program file that will fix it.., thanks for the help! ....

Skip the Baldur.ini file, that seems not to be the problem.
No editing of this file will enable you to run without the CD2 in the drive.
Have another go at exiting the Irenicus dungeon, see if that now works.

Wow, you are MY hero :P  After trying what seemed like EVERYTHING - sure enough closing Google Chrome allowed the BG1 installer to work.  No idea what would cause it..., but I can verify that Google Chrome can prevent the installer from running.

So weird...

I just installed BG2 from Gog outside of Program Files and installed the WSM inside of the correct directory, both launched with Admin.

Now when I attempt to open my game from baldur.exe, it flashes for half a second and then closes out. With the WSM installed I cannot play the game.

I should also note I told the WSM to set the res to 1900x1200. Thanks.

If all else fails you could run a virtual XP box and install in there. This is overkill for most people, installing somewhere else other than Program files apparently sorts you out. I don't know if they're assuming you've turned UAC off, I'm not running BG on w7 myself.

Virtual XP is a free feature avaliable on windows 7. Go to your control panel, Programs & features, Turn windows features on or off. Tick Windows Virtual PC and click OK. This adds a Windows Virtual PC menu item to your menus. Start it up. Click Create Virtual machine. The rest should be obvious.

I'm having a problem I can't seem to find any info on anywhere. I'm running the 4-in-1 SoA and ToB installed on Windows 7 x64, and for some reason I'm not getting any feedback circles underneath my PC, any of the NPCs, or any other creatures/objects in the game. Is this a known issue? Something that is resolved once I get out of Irenicus' lab? I ran a clean re-install and it was still a problem...

Hey!! I have the same problem.... found any solution ? I search all the web for an answer and I havent found anythig Posted Image

I think this a BUG that happends with win 7 because it never happend to me when I play BG2 8 year ago LOL!!!

I am using the same CD that worked when I first play BG2...

Finally I also cant intall my TOB CD!! when I click on the "install· buttom of the menu it will never start the process.

I am sorry for the english guys, its not my native idiom.

In relation to your first problem have you:
- installed to a directory outside the default Program Files (such as C:\\Games\\BG2)?
- installed the official patch?

In relation to problem with installing ToB have you closed all programmes that might interfere with the installer - such as browsers, virus checkers? One way to ensure you do this is to start Windows up in protected mode.

Note that if you're installing ToB as well then you do not want to use the official patch for SoA first - just install SoA, then ToB, then official patch for ToB.
