[Mac] Mac Specific Issues

I do have another question though - on a different matter. Is there any way to change a Ranger's companion? I had no idea about it when I first played a ranger and took the dog (wolf?) as his companion, but now I'd love to be able to change it to the panther. Is there any way to do that? I'll take a cheat code if there is one and there's no other way!
Thanks for any help!

One of the reasons I didn't get it for so long was because I only wanted it if I could play MotB and possibly SoZ as well.
I've heard there was a way to use the PC versions of MotB & SoZ (as there aren't Mac versions) with the Mac OC by moving some of the files (I don't want to get bootcamp or a different piece of software to run windows on my Mac).
How does one go about this?

Ranger Solo posted some instructions for getting MotB and SoZ working at the NWN2mac.freeforum here.
There is also a thread here about it.
If the links still work that may be the ticket. If you change your mind about installing on Windows and copying the files over, I have instructions for doing that. That would require that you have Windows and the WIndows version of NWN2 as well as MotB and SoZ.

Since I already have the Mac version of the OC I'm going to see what I can do with that.

I know this is a remarkably stupid question, but how do you find the module toolkit? I cannot for the life of me find it. Thanks
The NWN2 Toolset is only available for Windows. You would need to buy the Windows version of NWN2 to use it and you would need Windows XP or Windows 7 to run it on Bootcamp. I'm working on trying to get it to work using Wineskin so Windows isn't needed (although the Windows version of NWN2 would still be required), but Iit may not be possible. I run the Toolset on Windows XP in Bootcamp.

Unfortunately this may be useful yet but it is less so than I thought.
The macfreeforums has a link to nwn-europa which tells you to follow directions but the directions themselves are not viewable as links to them bring you to a forum bioware no longer links to.
And the 2 other links give errors.
And most of the other links don't work

I'm sorry the links are no longer working. This is the internet. And the Bioware forums were lost to us a while ago.

Also, it seems that Apple store Mac version comes fully updated.
[EDIT] I found most of the answers in your NWN2 Mac Free Forum Thanks for putting it up!

If I get the Mac version from the Apple store (13€), it seems it's a download = no CD version, right, no need to have a CD driving myself crazy while playing, I suppose?

You're welcome. Glad it helped. So in short
- no CD required
- fully patched OC
- does not include the expansions or MoW but is compatible with them if you can copy the files over from a Windows installation
- does not include the toolset
- overwrites the CD key for the OC each time it starts
- Standard campaign folders are embeded in the .app; campaign folders that would normally be in ~/Documents are instead in a subfolder in ~/Library
- a couple of bugs have been reported
Before buying it though I would seriously consider the alternative of buying the Windows NWN2 Platinum and installing it in a Wineskin wrapper. I posted instructions on my blog. That would include the expansions and also wouldn't require a CD to play.

& that "How to use a Wineskin wrapper" movie here.
Now, with the help of your blog and those, once I find the time... maybe...
(Am I supposed to look for some "NWN2 wrapper" somewhere?)
Are those expansions any better than the OC... since it isn't the most thrilling story to me so far... with all my due respects to our beloved Bioware. :innocent:

I have this blog post that explains how to create the wrapper and install NWN2 from the Platinum discs. In this blog post I give more detailed instructions on how to create a Wineskin using Wineskin Winery (with screen shots), although the programs I am installing in that post are from the DnD Anthology (BG, BG2, IWD, IWD2, ToEE, and PS:T). If you read both posts you should have a pretty good idea how to go about getting it to work. The two things I haven't been able to get working within a wineskin are multi-player and the toolset.
You do not have to start with a NWN2 wrapper, although there are a couple out there already. I had some trouble with the ones already out there and so created my own from scratch using Wineskin Winery. It isn't difficult.
MotB is a lot like the OC except that it is epic levels and the storyline is considered by most to be superior. I rushed through it since I was developing the MotB Makeover at the time so I'm not he best person to give a review on it. With the OC Makeover and MotB Makeover installed I liked both the OC and MotB, but I developed the Makeovers because I did not like them very much unmodified. SoZ is quite a bit different than the OC and MotB because it eschews the use of a heavy-handed plotline and cutscenes, allowing the player to have more freedom to explore. Some people appreciate that but others prefer the dictated plotline and companions of the OC and MotB. I enjoyed playing SoZ and it suited my taste more than any cRPG since Baldur's Gate.
Even if you are not enjoying the OC my recommendation is to buy NWN2 Platinum and install it. Then you can download from the NWN2 Vault (or soon from the brand new Nexus site) any of over a hundred free stand-alone adventures developed by community members and play them. Many of them assume that you have the expansions installed and may not work otherwise. Many of the adventures developed by the community are very polished and enjoyable. There are also many modifications, like my OC Makeover, available for free that might make the OC more enjoyable for you.

It comes as a one piece 6Gb application.
Now I can't find the saved games anyhere. I searched the app (open package) itself, my '"Documents" folder, my entire Mac (Intel Lion 10.7.3), no dice.
Anyone has any idea?

Try opening terminal ( it's an app in your utilties folder ), and running the following command which searches your entire user folder. ( ~ means user folder )
find ~ -type f -name \\*.bic
that assumes its inside your player folder somewhere ( and that bic is the extension of one of the 3 files in there, not at a place where i can check but i think it is )
If that does not work search your whole computer using the following ( / means root of the drive )
find / -type f -name \\*.bic
Think that should work, don't have lion yet, but it should be similar.

i'd say there is a folder named Neverwinter nights 2 inside your documents folder with the version you get on CD, not sure what is different on your version.

That worked...
(For the records, I also have an older french version, 1.12, of NWN2 installed on that same computer, one I know my way around with, located in that 'Documents' folder)
Your trick found waht I was looking for, among a few others of this new NWN2's things:
/Users/jml/Library/Application Support/Neverwinter Nights 2/saves/000004 - RRRRRRRRR/player.bic
So I know it's there, only I can't reach it... yet.
'jml' being me, (as the administrator) and 'RRRRRRRRR' a weird name I gave to one of those savegames for an easier search.
The only problem being... Lion maybe? Trust me, it's a hell of a new yet buggy system.
Those savegames are seating somewhere on my computer, you found them, but there is no such a thing as a 'library' folder anymore in my 'users/jml' directory...
A 'regular' search, my feeble level, can't find any 'RRRRRRRRR' file, the one you found. It's hidding to me, yet it's here somewhere... hidding just like this 'library' folder which is the key to everything.
Where could we find that 'player folder' you mentionned?
But many thanks already.
'working on it.

"Where are the NWN2 saved games and player's directory hiding in the new Mac OSX "Lion"
I got the answer from Aspyr:
*******************
Aspyr Technical Support, Mar 16 10:12 am (CDT):
Saves are stored in User/Library/Application Support/NWN2.
OSX Lion now hides this directory, so please press cmd+shift+G to bring up a search window in Finder and type in '~/library' to access this directory.
Aspyr Support

And it works.
