Its a third person shooter where you play as multiple characters (A bionic man, a dog with four arms and a mad scientist). It tries to be a bit comedic.

It is the sequel to a game developed by Shiny (creaters of games like Earthworm Jim and Sacrifice), that was acclaimed for its time.

MDK 2 was first released on the Dreamcast then the PC (and later ported to the PS2). It has been most noted for being one of hte most difficult games of all time. It still looks good, but personally I never got past the Dr. stage because of the awful controls (on third try got to the boss but with only 14 hp out of 100, only to realize that I could not figure out how to damage the bastard).

Which sucks because the first two stages (one as the bionic janitor and one as the bionic dog) were pretty fun, if rather difficult.

Basically you start out as the man, next stage is the dog, and next stage is the Dr. (don't know after that).

They each control differently, the man has a sniper for instance and the Dog is loaded with weapons. While the Dr. you run around with a nuclear toaster. It sounds cooler than it is, as you have to guestimate where the pieces of bread will hit while running around the enemies (who on this stage have an annoying enemy pattern). And the level layout itself is quite tedious.

But I digress.

If you are curious I would suggest getting the first MDK from gog.com (if you can handle old school 3D graphics). Personally I think MDK 2 still looks nice even though it lacks polygon detail (I mean this was a dreamcast game).

I have the PC version and I've heard that the DC versions are more difficult while the PS2 version is the least (or has the most options).

This was either Bioware's third or fourth game as I do not remember if it came out before BG2

Both MDK and MDK2 are available through Steam, as well.

Secondly, it's only difficult if you're not a very lateral thinker. Some of the solutions to defeating bosses require some way-out-there thinking.

That said, MDK2 is really fun. I'd advise you wait for the HD version that's currently being made, though. It's likely to have better controls.

I remember playing this a while back. Wasn't there a situation where you could blow up a space station by farting when playing as the Dr? It was pretty funny at the time lol.

No. I think there is an army of MDK 2 haters out there. I loved MDK 1. Everything in it was 100 times better than in MDK 2.

IMHO, MDK 2 probably is the biggest Bioware failure in their history.

Kurt is ugly and looks like an idiot. (his model compared to MDK1)  MAX is the only new good and fun addition to the game. Dr. Hawkins missions are a total disaster. I think in early 2000 developers were not used to play test their games. This is why those puzzles are so disgusting.

And their attempt to make the game look comical or funny... This is sad.

MDK was perfect.

MDK 2 is pure crap. I wonder if there are still ppl in Bioware that worked on MDK 2 now. May be they are responsible for Mako missions in ME1 and planet scanning in ME2.

The Wii version controls decently, but it is still substantially less polished than modern games.

Obviously mate I loved “MDK2” as well, I have some sweet memories on this game. Those days used to play with my younger brother, but unfortunately he is no more alive. We had so much fun while playing “MDK2”.

MDK2 is the sequel of MDK, where aliens have taken invaded Earth. The main part of the alien invasion is stopped in MDK, with MDK2 following immediately after.
MDK was a puzzle-platformer with a pretty straight gameplay with weird (but cool) environments & fun puzzles but was otherwise pretty neutral.
MDK2 on the other hand, while still being mostly puzzle-platformer, has no virtually serious gameplay (in terms of humor) and is overloaded with jokes (both simple and over the top) it is not a second coming of MDK but IMO it is still a brilliant game it it's own right.
Not unexpected since MDK was developped by Shiny and MDK 2 by BioWare.

The game is divided in three segments.
The first level is played with Kurt Hectic, the janitor and the one who was the protagonist in MDK. He's the quick and agile type who relies on hit-&-run tactics and is equipped with a sniper/machinegun-arm. His parts are mostly played as a platformer that requires you to make use of your advance maneuverability and sniper to solve puzzles (a quick aim and some foresight is required here). You're likely to be placed in situations where you're pressured into making quick decisions though you can mostly shrug it off and take your time.
The second level you'll start with Max, who relies on his on heavy firepower taking the form different weapons found throught the game (btw, he has 4 arms which equals 4 guns) and a high health to do the fighting for him. You could say he's the easiest since he can't do much besides running and shooting in a game that is more concerned with puzzling, so the only solution to all his problems is to use more firepower. Though you still get your fair share of platforming.
The third level will be played with Dr. Fluke Hawkins, a brilliant scientist who has a few cans short of a six-pack. He can build virtually anything using anything and he's the one with whom you need to think out of the box with. He's a poor platformer and you'll be more often puzzling with him (even in combat!) then jumping around trying to reach the next platform (though that's still there too).
After this it will repeat this switch of characters & gameplay for the rest of the game, with each level tying into what the other two are doing at the beginning and end.

Personally, I consider it one of best (if not the best) of BioWare's games.
