Seeing as how there are many, many stories that can be told and that there are many corners of Thedas we haven't explored, I don't mind playing a new character in DA2 to further explore this world. That said, I (like many others) don't feel as if the Warden's story is done yet.

To make a comparison, I thoroughly enjoyed how the main character was handled through the BG series. You took your character all the way through BG, BG2, and ToB. The ending of ToB was highly appropriate - even if you chose not to ascend to godhood at the end, it still felt like your story was finished. I never got that sense after taking my character through Origins and then onto Awakening...likely because Awakening never felt like anything more than a side-story.

Even with this, I'm very willing to take a break from the Warden's story and embrace a new character and (hopefully) unrelated story in Hawke. However, at some point I really do hope Bioware decides to return to the Warden's story and finish it. I would normally advocate an expansion for this sort of thing, but considering how badly Awakening turned out I'm very wary of the effort they'd put into any future expansion. So, here's hoping for a future game that finishes the Warden's story, and hopefully in an as-yet-unseen part of Thedas. :)

As long as I can customize Hawke, I don't mind if I have to play as him/her.

It depends. Is the game about a blight? If so, play as the Warden.

If its not about a blight, Hawke or anyone else.

I would much rather play as my Warden, since I put so much time into developing relationships with my party members, completing every quest I could find and picking up every unique piece of armor, and playing through all the DLCs as well as Awakening. Also, if I remember correctly, it talked about how the Warden-Commander left a little while after everything in Amaranthine was finished and the Wardens were strong enough to stand on their own: he could have ended up in the Free Marches (which is where 2 takes place, right?) and a new story could have unfolded with him as the hero.

But DA2 probably isn't about a blight, and the Darkspawn are more than likely in a reduced role like the Geth in ME2, so theres no need to play as a Warden.

I haven't read much about DA 2: is Hawke not a Grey Warden?

Its unknown at this time, but seeing as the game is probably not about a Blight and that Hawke ran away from a Blight, its doubtful he is one.

And thank god for that.

The Warden, his/her story was far from done. Hawke seems like any other cookie cutout thats been in every other game.

The Warden's story, to me, is done. The poor soul has gone through enough already.

After reading and posting in this thread I want to go and play Origins and Awakening one last time so I can at least experience the game as a Grey Warden before the focus shifts away from them.

Although they are kind of -the- iconic group for the Dragon Age universe: hopefully they will at least have some role in 2, maybe as one of the groups you need to gain support from?

... and a rather poorly executed sidestory, compared to the epic feel of DA:O, IMO.

I completely agree with your sentiment.

I still want to play as the Warden. If not in DA2, then perhaps later on (DA3? 4? 8? I wonder if this will go on like the Ultima series lol). *shrugs*

And, disappointed as I am w/ what I've read about DA2, I'll still be getting it as I'm still curious as to how things will play out.

The Warden, definitely. Would be like not playing Shepard in ME3. Besides, I don't like the "Hawke becomes the most important person in Thedas ever" idea. My Warden stopped a frigging BLIGHT, what could possibly top THAT?

I want two things:

-play a sarcastic, flirty female
-have a great story.

All the rest is bonus.

That makes two of us Helena :)

My warden hands down. I want continuity not a completely different story.

But if my warden would have died in the end of DA:O then Hawke would be fine.

That would also be a nice point. Maybe the Warden (who is custom as we all know) could be a huge part of the game that Bioware is not mentioning yet. If Morrigan comes back, I would love for my Warden to return as well. Just a thought.
