To be completely honest, I loved my Warden to absolute death and dislike the Hawke direction of the game ... but I don't want to play as her anymore.

What I want is a NEW protagonist we can build from the ground up, race, name, gender, personality. I want someone LIKE my Warden, but not actually the Warden. I was really excited to create and roleplay a new character in DA2, and while I know I wasn't PROMISED that, that's what I'd prefer. more than my Warden, an npc, Hawke, or anything else.

DA:O was fresh and new and fun. I want something else that's fresh and new, new characters, new area, new protagonist ... just one that I have more control over :)

I am fine with a new character taking place in a new time period.... But... It feels like they just shot by the Warden too fast... Think of all the fun times Bryce and Loghain and all the others had in slaying enemies. I killed an Archdemon sure, but merely over the course of a single game.

Onimusha took care of the series PERFECTLY without exhausting the welcome of Samunoske Akechi.
He was the main character in the first and third games, with Sekishusai Yagyu in the second game. Samunoske featured an alias in the fourth game, with a completely new hero as the main character in Dawn of Dreams.

I think the thing is that we want the Warden to be a bigger deal than s/he actually is in history. The Warden was a character whose importance to the Thedas timeline emerged because of the Blight. S/he was the only person who could unite the world to bring down the Archdemon.

The issue is that Thedas history agrees: no Blight means Wardens are in the background. The rest of the Warden's life was spent managing an Order that's mostly irrelevant and pursuing their own personal quests. And in some cases, they died a hero at Denerim. That's all there is to it.

We want our Warden to be the most important person ever in Thedas history, but logically and from a greater storytelling standpoint, s/he just wouldn't have been. She and Alistair get Warden-y desk jobs and live in quiet happiness. He goes after Morrigan and his child. Etc. That's the logical end for living Wardens.

Well then, I suppose it is a good thing that the Warden's history can and will have an an impact in the second game.

I see your point, and yours alone. Your Warden has a happily ever after life (so to speak) with Alistair and she has made a perfect closure with the game. Speaking in your position, there is no necessity to continue your character's storyline.

However, put yourself in my shoes. I will be brief about my story: Bahlgan was the second son of the Couslands yada yada mated and romanced Morrigan out of genuine feelings yada yada slain the Archdemon only to find she had left yada yada wants to find her and find his closure in the story. If by any chance my Warden's closure is found in some DLC from Origins or Awakening, then that is one thing. But if that never happens, I WILL look for DAO:2 for my Warden to find closure with Morrigan. It has become THAT serious for my individual tastes.

Call me a freak, or a religious player (ahem religious meaning passionate) but I love a good story. :D

I'm just saying, that's not enough to get a whole game out of. I played a male character who romanced Morrigan out of genuine feelings, too, so I definitely know where you're coming from -- though perhaps not quite as strongly because I'm a woman in real life, but I do get pretty into my characters :) But I don't think that the male Warden who romances Morrigan going and looking for her makes an entire game, and having the Warden do some other big heroic thing is just overkill and undermines a lot of the themes of DA:O. The people saw the Warden as a hero because they needed him/her. That's how things have always been for the Wardens.

I would definitely love to see a DLC released for people whose best friend or lover was Morrigan and they go looking for her and find her, though, especially if the god-child is apparently going to be irrelevant. I think that would be the best way to go about doing it.

Well not just because of Morrigan. Just in general, I mean a year or two isn't enough for my Warden lol

and having the Warden do some other big heroic thing is just overkill

Nothing wrong with making a game so awesome that it takes people some time to get their feet out of the two dimensional field of characters. Hell, try out Suikoden series, there are ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT players!!! Granted not all of them are playable, some are support chars, but still.

Anyway, it's like magic :wizard:

I perfer to make my characters or import my grey warden. I just feel that in changing the format to (what seems to be) more aligned with Mass Effect is just an sudden unnesscary change. I mean I'm just not seeing where this all fits in with the first game. How is Hawke relevent?

How does DA:O connect to DA:2

"How is Hawke relevant?"? they're the main character.

You import the choices you made in DA:O into DA2

Let me clarify I understand he/she is the main character. What I meant is HOW will the choices in DA:O affect the sequal. I mean I've played plenty of games including a few bioware where things just are referenced and  then dropped like a stone. I mean for example sure I can make a sequal to, let's go with Robocop, and have absolutely nothing to do with the original movie. I just have a completely new protagonist in a diffrent country who is also a cyborg police type officer and have unimportant refrences to characters and corporations and doctors and etc. but they do not have any real useful impact on the story they just share a world.

I am essentially worried as to where I will feel like I'm running through the expansion again, sorta enjoying it, but feeling moderately out of my element and disjointed from the game because I keep expecting connections to the first game and my decisions.

Do I make sense?

Originally i would have wanted to play as the warden, but ive realised now that that story would be pretty much over now, and too complicated.

Having said that i wouldnt want to play as Hawke either, or id only like it if he didnt speak...

Grey Warden.

There is nothing wrong with starting a new character in DA2, especially if your Warden died. But if your Warden is still alive (as mine) the end is completely open e.g. concerning (some) NPCs, especially when you think of some of the vague end notes.

I hope Bio will merge the stories of DAO and DA2 in DA3, so that all players may choose to play the Grey Warden, Hawke or maybe a third character we do not know yet. Atm I think thats the best solution for all types of players of DAO. (The VO is no problem, in ME/ME2 there are male and female versions of Shepard too and an average voice type works with all races).

Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!!!

See this is something else that should be considered in the game. If Hawke is to be the main character, then perhaps maybe the Warden can have at least something to do with it. I just don't want my valiant character, who earned his status from ashes and dust by the way, to all of a sudden lose his spark juice after a year or so of fighting from Origins and Awakening.

I wanted a new hero and not the god child, I do however dislike that Hawke will be forced to be human, but I can deal with it if everything else is good.

I want to play as the Batarian Prophet. I'd walk up to the darkspawn and yell "YOU SIR! YOU ARE A BLIGHT!"

Also the godchild would be between 1-10 years old, and that would make for a weird game.

I don't want to play as the Warden again, so that rules him out. I don't want to play as a God-child, so that rules that out. The only issue I have with Hawke is them making him seem so much more important to the entire Thedas (whereas our GW was just Fereldan) than our previous PC. I don't like playing a character that's "the greatest evah!"

Other than that, I'm fine with the character they're making us play this time. So long as the decisions we made in DA:O are recognized, I'll always be in favor of a new character for each new game.
