Not that I'd like to play as the 'godchild', but haven't you encountered a setting a where the offspring, particularly of a powerful being, has either accelerated growth, or is born 'aware' (has memories/knowledge, etc.), or both?

I recall that Orici child from Stargate SG-1 being such a case (full adult in, what, a week? She was pretty, too... and so was the mom...  )
I think there was another setting w/ something similar ('golden child'? I forget), but I can't remember which (I think it has something to do w/ eastern/asian philosophy/mysticism)

I don't think playing as the warden would work in every case. Some wardens died. I didn't think it made sense that there would be an option to play as your warden in Awakenings if s/he died. So, it would make sense in DA2. Realistically, (depending on your outcome) the warden would be King, Queen or take over recruit new wardens. Not much time for new adventures.

The god-child would be interesting, but the child must be older around twentysomething. Might be a possiblity for DA3 or DA4. That would closer to the time the taint would be getting the Warden. The other problem is the god-child is still the story of Fereldan and not Thedas.

I vote for Hawke. But part of me is worried how much the game experience will change. I hope the change is for the better.

NEVER want to play one of the NPCs in my party. I have no interest in playing Leliana's Song, for instance, and certainly would have no interest in playing a full game as any of the NPCs. Bleah. I liek them to interact with and talk to, not to play as. My PC is MINE.

Little interest in playing Morrigan's child, and since it's not canon, I doubt it will ever come up.

My Warden's story is long done in my head. I'm not even been playing the DLCs that continue her story because...uhh...frankly, I haven't finished the game with my personal "canon" character.

So, Hawke is fine.

I'd rather play my Warden.

That said, I think the decision to fully voice the protagonist is the right one, and I have faith in Bioware to write Hawke well.

Wait.  This thread was talking about VO too?  Ah, man.  And I had a big rant all ready for that situation too.  Ah, well.

Short, short version: VO PC has no way of working for me, and will change the game from my playing a character I consider mostly my own, to me choosing the direction of the story with a mostly BioWare owned character.  It is a decision that dampens my enthusiasm for DA2 to almost nothing.

But you've all heard these comments before from others.  Just adding where I stood (as if anyone truly cares :P ).

Carry on.

Totally agree. You're just not playing as Hawke, you're playing the invisble hand directing him/her....meh.

Hawke. He has the beard.

Seeing as how the god child never happened to 50% of people, it would be impossible to play as him/her

I'd prefer to play as a voiced Warden, but since that's not possible I think I'll prefer Hawke over the Warden since he'll be voiced

None of the above.

A new character that is yours, your choice of race, sex and appearance but a new character for a new game.

The whole Morrigans child thing is getting rediculous though, its not something likely to be used again by Dragon Age unless they make more stuff for the Warden. The possibility of the child even exsisting is in question, you didnt have to do the ritual, then the race of the child is also in question. I am not sure what they do with elf and human children, but I know they have stated that dwarves and humans make a half breed.

I think a new character was the best choice. The warden had a good run, but it's time to move on. The god-baby on the other hand would be problematic as it doesn't necessarily exist for people who didn't go through with the dark ritual in their playthroughs. Your party NPCs all have established personalities, so playing as one of them would feel odd if you decided to take them in a completely different direction.

Morrigan is a massive loose end hanging off the back of DA:O. That will have to be tied off at some point, and it would have only a fraction of the emotional impact if it was done without the Warden. So i'm confident we'll see him/her again.

And it's not as if the 'final sacrifice' option stopped Awakening, similar to how the possibility of Shepard's death in ME2 will not stop him being the protagonist in ME3.

Hawke is pretty cool, whether it works 'better' than DA:O is ephemeral, the point is that Bioware is moving foward. So far they've only scratched at the depth of possibilities available in interactive storytelling, whatever format they use, i'm confident that DA2 is attempting to do more.

I would prefer my warden, or a character that I create mostly from scratch, rather than a set protagonist ala Hawke.

Grey Warden - story has run it's course and does not need to be continued

Former NPC - the stuff of DLCs, a la Leliana's Song

God Child - this would be a kick in the balls to whoever refused the ritual

Hawke = preferred option

I'm on the fence. It might prove interesting to play from another perspective like Hawke's, but I'm horribly attached to my Warden. Well, just my Elf-Mage Belinor, who was the poor sap to fall for Morrigan. Honestly, I'd be perfectly fine moving on to a new character, provided Belinor got some form of closure (as so many others have said) regarding his child in an expansion or, if they somehow rigged it, in a later DA game. So in the end, I'm going to have to say my Warden, Belinor. My other Wardens can rot for all I care. Gil-Galad became Teyrn of Loghain's land, and settled down with Leliana. Fingolfin died. Lucia became the Queen of Ferelden. Finduilas ran away with Alistair, leaving Anora in power. Their stories have ended.

NPC is obvious since they will never be YOUR character due to having preset personalities the way blank slates like the Warden/Hawke can be

No Warden/Godbaby because as pointed out so many times before DA does not revolve around a singular character like ME does with Shepard. The Warden had a choice to sacrifice him/herself or tell Morrigan to get the hell out of his room. Those choices SHOULD be valid for sequels. Making the Warden (who may have died) or the GodBaby (who may not exist) a main character is a disservice to the players that chose to not go the Dark Ritual way.

I see a preset character like Hawke as being very possible to end up just like playing a preexisting NPC in regards to your example against a preexisting character. Hawke is very much a preset character or at least a character limited in player choice at least at the start. Take Shepard from Mass Effect as an example I can change his appearance and choice his specialization, but ultimately Shepard is still Shepard. My greatest fear when it comes to Hawke is that players aren't going to be able to make the character their own that it will always be generic stale preset.

I'm happy enough to play Hawke. If I'm going to play a particular person, I'd rather he wasn't somebody who already has a tightly defined personality, so an NPC from DA is a definite no-no. I'm generally a fan of playing somebody ordinary rather than a superhuman, which rules out the OGB...would like to see the OGB in the game, though as a potential antagonist. As to my Warden, well...he is alive, but he would really prefer to live out his life quietly. He was tired of wading through blood by the end of DA:O.

Personally, the Warden would've been nice, only because I want to get some closure and pursue Morrigan after she ditched... it wouldn't be enough to support a game (or at least I don't think it would) but it would've been nice to see.

or it could be a optinal quest!Posted Image
