Chantry a target?

This may have already been discussed before, but Gameinformer posted several wallpapers regarding DA2. The last one shows a structure with an arch going over it. It has a dragon "graffitied" on it, and a chain to the left.

Could this symbolize the Chantry as a target? It's been discussed why Morrigan wants the god-child, so maybe this image alludes to the overall role that the god-child was intended to play.

This is all speculation and I'm trying to stay up to date on the facts! Posted Image

Not only that - the grey warden order's support many ages ago quickly went into their heads
- endorsement of all kinds of anachronistic racism, forced drug addiction on templars,
censoring the chant of light beyond recognition (...)

Bottomline:
I happilly send you my Tesla coil canon and both types of mini nuke launchers
from FO3 as a gift

... ready, aim - fire!

Should help against Q'nari artillery and their missionary-cuckoo as well.

Can you please tell me why you hate the templars? OR the Chantry?

Do you suppose Hawke may have to chose between destroying the Chantry (probably alongside Flemeth or Morrigan) or saving it? Assuming this may happen, which it may or may not, it would be a pretty epic decision.

ironic that the hate atheists show towards christianity/catholicism in real world now starts to spread out even into RPG-s, despite that the faith ingame is not real

While I think unrest towards the Chantry in the Free Marches could well become a sub-plot the whole thing can't be chucked.

As far as we know we are going no where near Val Royeaux, so going up against "THE Chantry" is impossible.

Plus you know, if Hawke gets too upity the Divine could just call an Exalted March on him

I'd welcome it if we could return to discussing da 2
instead  of triggering a 'request for a thread lockdown'.
(as in real world politics and reliigion).

I guess I'm the only one who supports the chantry. I hope I get the choice to side with the chantry.

In response to the OP, I don't think that'll be the main focus.

In response to the idea, I would be all for the Imperial Chantry, but if I had to stick with the Andrastian Chantry, so be it.

I don't support the Chantry - but that doesn't mean that any choice will be whether you support them or not. You can't destroy an institution that powerful very easily - it would mean war against both religion and multiple nations - so saying "I approve/disapprove of the Chantry" could take a backseat to "I approve/disapprove of the Thedas World War." That is what it would be if the Chantry was to be destroyed

I fail to see how that's "ironic."

I've noticed that real life theists seem very quick to defend this fake church--wonder why?

Very true.  I don't support the Chantry either and will always work to lessen their power, but I don't expect to completely destroy them.

Plus, this Hawke dude/dudette is "a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT character in the world of Dragon Age". I'm thinking some manipulation is in order (via Flemeth possibly), but what is it that makes this dude so important? Could he be the driving force in protecting or crippling the chantry? It's a possibility, but I'm merely assuming, and you know what THAT means...

It could very well be a sub-plot, like others have mentioned previously.

Well, a lot of people are speculating.  No shame in that.Posted Image

Indeed.

Did people think that the "Crystal Dragon Jesus" version of catholicism in a game of Dark Fantasy would be some enlightened post modern sect with tolerance and pacifism towards all?

Now THAT would have been anachronistic.

I guess they fail to RP their characters in the medieval mindset, and can't step away from their own modern sensibility? Hopefully the writers won't stop portraying the Chantry in a multifaceted way, showing both the good and the bad.

In fact, they could start showing some warts of the Dalish and the Qun, for that matter... And not just keep on dumping all the "lyrium addicted templars" crap on the fantasy version of Catholicism.

The writers allow the PC to hold somewhat modern beliefs, or at least beliefs that are out of step with what the average person in the setting believes.  There are indeed dialogue options that let you say you think the Chantry teaches superstitions.  If the writers felt that was absolutely impossible, I doubt they would have put it there.  Sort of like how the writers don't force human characters to see elves as "not really people" and worthy of no further aspirations than performing mundane domestic tasks.
