Its always puzzled me and now with the horde scattered and many small bands roaming the surface how will there diet differ from the deeprodss, surely with a bigger amount of "Meat" and plants nearby they can grow stronger rather than living on deep mushrooms and spiders haha. Just wondering is all. Thankyou.

Most of them are in the Deep Roads attacking Dwarfes and i'm sure it's enough. and if it's not why to we care? they die to hunger and Cheer

Darkspawn don't require food for sustenance. The corruption within them keeps them alive. They can eat... but if they do so they do it for reasons other than dietary.

I seem to remember, back when Origins was released, David Gaider saying that darkspawn don't actually need to eat and only do so as a form of psychological warfare

I don't know why Darkspawn would need anything for sustenance, Blight or no. They seem to die too quickly for any hunger issues to become a problem.

This. Are they, then, not living? How exactly does a blood "corruption" serve as nourishment, or are they just animated dead?

This is interesting, since, long time ago, I participated in a discussion about darkspawn being parasitical to humans. If they don't need to eat, and are actually smart enough to engage in "psychological warfare" naturally (and aren't, in fact, mindless) then Awakenings has a bit of a different bent. The only truly problematic issue to the ability to negotiate, then, is the whole broodmother thing, I suppose. Interesting.

You just ruined my faith in Darkspawn, and at the same time in the entire idea of Dragon Age!

It is argued that the Darkspawn make DAO a game that is not morally ambiguous because the Darkspawn are pure evil, and I defended them on the grounds of having to eat somehow so they just eat humans like we eat animals, and now.. and now...:crying:

They´re pure evil!!! Boring!!!!!!!

That's an excellent question, if perhaps an academic one. Darkspawn don't breed, either... unless you want to call the process by which darkspawn are created by broodmothers breeding. Broodmothers technically aren't darkspawn themelves-- they're ghouls. So do the darkspawn qualify as living creatures in their own right?

They're compelled to be what they are by a force that is not well-understood. If that makes them "pure evil" to you, then so be it-- not everything in Dragon Age is morally abiguous; just that there are no easy answer. Beyond that you might want to be careful using imaginary logic to defend fantastical creatures.

If I may ask david, How do Broodmothers give birth. Is it like mammals or do they lay eggs, no reason just morbid curiosity. also will we see an elven or Qunari broodmother. I've always wondered what a Qunari female looks like
