Ok, fine, David Gaider confused me completely. I previously assumed that Broodmothers are darkspawn, and act like ant, termite or bee queens - they're inseminated once by a darkspawn male at an early stage and then produce almost infinite amount of offspring, larva-like small creatures...



Now I am confused. How do they grow if they don't eat? For what purposes do they eat if they don't need to feed to survive? They still suffer from hunger?

I just don't understand... So they're being born, they grow up, so they're living creatures, no?

it is possible though, not that it would happen but it is technically possible. I thought Darkspawn felsh and blood was poisonous how come that Dwarfven scavenger in the deep roads had survived so long I mean he could still retain his speech after years of eating Darkspawn flesh and the ability to barter. I thought it was total insanity.

the taint is pretty much just magical energy, also darkspawn are most likely the result of mages meddling with magical energy, I think it is easier to shapechange into a tainted animal than into an entirely new animal form

That's an excellent question, if perhaps an academic one. Darkspawn don't breed, either... unless you want to call the process by which darkspawn are created by broodmothers breeding. Broodmothers technically aren't darkspawn themelves-- they're ghouls. So do the darkspawn qualify as living creatures in their own right?

wait, so whats a darkspawn then, anything that is born from a broodmother? and are darkspawn the only things that can corrupt?

Can demons or spirits be corrupted by the taint, I doubt it but that would be a....sight to see. I mean they are technically living beings, just on another plain of existence.

Mr. Gaider, are Broodmothers always female humanoids?  I know what it says in the codex, but I always wondered (given the radical changes corruption can cause in any entity).

Chains won't help if it breathes fire in your face when you're trying to upchuck in its mouth.

Ugh. Darkspawn are such gross little creatures. Never really realized that until now...

Actually, all this sounds similar to xenomorpth biology to me... No, really. Aliens eat to grow and develop, but they don't die of hunger. They still eat though if they find any food, but feeding chestbursters is the priority, right? Are darkspawn the same? Adults don't need to eat, but small ones need to? And what is this fleshy growth on the walls? Food source?

Wait. The Broodmothers have breasts, Breasts are used to nourish a baby with milk when its growing. whats the point of it having breasts then if the darkspawn don't feed on them, especially having so many :/.

I just had another thought.... If Darkspawn are no real living creatures in the original sense but somehow created by the Broodmothers... then WHO CREATED THE FIRST DARKSPAWN?



I mean, they can´t have evolved like humans and other species as they don´t breed, BUT they can´t have produced the first broodmothers either because they didn´t exist before there were broodmothers.



So the Darkspawn must have been artificially created by insanely powerful and insane mages - like, as a sort of biological weapon maybe?

it wouldn't even need to look like a dargon, it could be a wingless, wormlike digger like that from Dune

meanwhile, Griffons may have gone extinct but if before that some were captured and turned into ghouls they could breed darkspawn which would be the ideal flying mounts for hurlocks, the whole picture would be like a currupted and twisted image of the legendary past of grey wardens on their griffons

Sounds like darkspawn were created by some mages as a source of cheap soldiers, but at some point the creators lost control... Supersoldier breeding business always go wrong, right?
