I made no use of tactics though. I'm considering playing through again and I'm wondering, do the tactics make much difference? How much help is it having good tactics setup?

I just completed Origins a week or two ago, mostly through normal but on easy after a certain enemy near the end.
I made no use of tactics though. I'm considering playing through again and I'm wondering, do the tactics make much difference? How much help is it having good tactics setup?

Tactics can make a big difference or not. It depends on your playstyle mostly.
If you like "close to real time combat" they can make a big difference, but if you're more a "pause then play" type they're more or less irrelevant because you'll be micromanaging your group anyway.
If you want more ideas about tactics, do a forum search with keyword tactics, there are a lot of posts on the subject.
