True, that we don't know much about Hawke.. But there are some small clues laying about, that the Mabari hounds on this forum can smell and fetch to make a small pile...
On Hawke's Path to Kirkwall:
If one looks at the Map of Thedas, Kirkwall is actually not so far from the Coastlands of Ferelden... Thus the shortest path for warrior or a wandering mage travelling there would be by the sea.. This presents some interestign possibilities such as encounter with pirates.. But that will depend on the Writer's disposition.
As we know Loethering lies close to the south end of lake Calenhad. There is a good reason to believe that the Protagonist will travel to either Denerim or Circle Tower or BOTH before leaving Ferelden from Loethering. This is suggested by some true genius who pointed out that hawke's sister being a Mage, would have problems concerning her phylectary before leaving Ferelden and going AWOL. I couldn't agree more UNLESS the leave of absence is granted officially for some unknown reason. Thus we may expect to see either of these places before the prologue in Ferelden ends...
EDIT: It seems from some new information recently released that Hawke will definitely start at Loethering WITH his sister, Bethany in tow. There he will be rescued by none other than Flemeth from the Darspawn they are fighting. The inteactive map on the GI site, tells us that denerim is one of the possible places of interest. Since Denerim has two important aspects: Storage of Phylacteries AND being a Port, one can expect Hawke will travel there for either reason. There is a possibility that he will meet a beautiful Pirate named Isabela in the vicinity of Denerim who will assist/oppose/join him in his quests...
And thus he/she became the the person of utmost importance in Thedas....
What happens to Hawke between his/her arrival to Kirkwall and the end of his time is hard to guess. But somewhere in the story-line, we have been told, he/she would become the most important person in Thedas. Now that is NOT a title lightly earned... It requires a deed equivalent to slaying an archedemon and we know these opportunities are fortuitously rare....
To hold the fate of Thedas in his/her hand, he/she would have to be the person who guides the destiny of an event that affects not just the Free Marches where he/she is set to make his/her mark but the rest of the continent as well... In order to supply such an event, I would like to point your attenttion to something that took place in the Awakening expansion, which foreshadows a possible future. If you ahven't already killed her, Wynne appears in Amranthine and tell's you about a conference planned in Nevarra, where Mages are going to gather and decide upon their separation from the chantry. This is a serious issue concerning all of Thedas, as the chantry is effectively not only the religious force but also a political one... AND it does not want Mages to go amuck!
It is sure to stir up anger against every mage that takes the libertarian side and result in something not dis-similar to an exalted march against whoever shelters the rengade mages... This whoever could be Hawke.. since his/Her sister is a mage by default...
EDIT: It is possible to imagine that an all-out war will erupt in Thedas due to the actions of the mages. We will perhaps see Tevinter either helping the mages through secretive or open means. In the resulting chaos, Qunari may decide to invade Thedas once again and there may be fight on two fronts for our hero. The mountains of Sundermount point towards a Quest that will unveil survivors of the disaster at Arlathan, particularly Slumbering elders that will shade extra light upon pre-Tevinter Thedas and the World. The Dales being mentioned, may be associated with either a Dalish/Elvish revolt. It could be that the remaining interactive areas depict the political centres of Thedas that are either open to Exploration or participate as Narrative backgrounds. 10 years being a long span, exploration is not so impossible an event. We can guess that Orlais will be antagonisic towards the Mages and may be the chief adversary if Hawke sides with them. At the end of awakening, if one plays as the Orlesian GW, there appears a rumour that a new blight has begun near Weishaupt _damn_the_spelling_fortress. This is a possible plot point as well...
