I meant what he did to end up on Purgatory. I just want to know if we get any details. Like if he raped his victims first or tortured them. Was he serial murderer or just a violent criminal who killed people who crossed him?

The guard tells us his beating is a massage compared to what he did to his "victims". In the plural.

The cellmate next door says most people in the prison have killed 20+ people. Take what you like from that.

philiposophy wrote...

You said Jack isn't a lost cause but she's killed an awful lot of people without any good reason and caused an awful lot of damage, which would have caused pain to a lot of people's lives. Not just bad people but probably civilians considering one of her tales is about crashing a space station into a moon of the hanar. Why is this guy a lost cause in comparison to that?*

*assuming that's who "Bimmy" is, I haven't read the whole thread.

Good question.

Jack is not a victimizer, like this prisoner. She is not a serial killer. She is a delinquent.

Jack also benefits from my having been given physical evidence of why she is the way she is. Through no fault of his own, Bimmy has no such advantage.

However, I doubt Bimmy has the excuse of being tortured day in and day out for years since childhood because he was bred bred to be a killing machine, as that is a pretty damn rare excuse.

Simply put, the ***hole deserves it, doesn't he? Any criminal in Purgatory deserves that. Do I believe he should be beaten for the reasons why their beating him, (getting information) no, I don't. But he deserves it anyway.

Yeah, I know.

Its not like anyone innocent could have ended up there.

Also, wouldnt it have been funny if Shepard had handed in his gun at the entrance?

Jack certainly hasnt shied away from killing though. How would Bimmy having been tortured as a child reducethe severity of his crimes? Doesnt make his victims any less dead.

I honestly am GRATEFUL most of you aren't in charge of any judicial system because some of the logic in this thread is terrifying. "These prisoners are monster...etc, deserve to be punished etc" Why do people get the entitlement they are some how better? All It takes is ONE mistake, ONE wrong decision to end up in Gen pop.

You come off rather naive. They're there for a reason, you know. I mean, if I went back in the 40s and saw some soldiers beating the crap out of Hitler, I would join in the fun.

Just saying.

Now, that's not quite fair, Caine... we're not total monsters here! :wizard:

I wholeheartedly agree that the things I'm saying can't be applied to your average present-day prison. There are some good people in there who were just unfortunate, or made a simple mistake.

But our conception of Purgatory is that the criminals there are a hundred times worse, because their own planets have failed to incarcerate them and don't even want them on the homeworld.

Because you have know that he will be one of the biggest mass murderers in history.

We dont even have evidence that this prisoner is guilty.

Naive, no. Realstic, yes. Being there is a good enough punishment. Anything other than that is just sadistic; you should see some of the CO's, security guards I've met and hear their stories. These guys are just as good as they people they babysit. Take away a mans freedom, his rights, his diginigty and what do you have? A shell. An animal. It's bad enough the prisoners have to fight for surival amongst themselves but the people keeping order? Wtf. No HUMAN deserves that. Hitler? Why is it that he's always dragged into an argument. That was more than 70 years ago, move on please. There were worse dicators throughout history.

She's a wild child, but she's no serial killer. She's not evil. I can't see her hurting innocent victims for pleasure, which is the issue here.

Jack wants to stay away from Shepard for fear of hurting him.
Jack becomes distraught when she hears Cerberus might be hurting other kids.
Jack will not allow Teltin to be restarted so the horrors can continue.
Jack expresses a strong emotional reaction to seeing the pile of dead human corpses.

Jack's presented as this tough badass b*tch, but in reality, she's surprisingly benign in the game.

Plus she has those eyes and everything. I mean, hello. Those eyes.

I really don't understand what you mean, and I'd like to, so could you please explain? What is annoying about criminal incarceration, and what do I "know is not true"?

It's like garbage. Every once in a while you take out the trash, where does it go? A landfill! Now no one wants trash piling on the street, it looks bad, smells bad and generally not good for your health. What trash tends to do is pile up but as long as no one sees it it's not a problem. Well, evenutally, it's going to become a problem. wait, this doesnt have anything to with mass effect...

Both my Paragon and my Paragade Shepards stop them.

My Paragon MaleShep would use a charm persuasion and my Paragade FemShep would use an intimidate option.

Lol.

Okay, hmm...

I'm thinking my response to this will be "But trash doesn't murder people."

Ah, well, you will not have been the first, Kaiser. You will not have been the first.

Someone in the GTA style radio station thread made this mistake as well I think... I stopped bothering to correct people.

I've seen this topic around for a while and I keep debating on whether it's worth my time to answer such a simple and obvious question, well apparently it is.

I always stop the beating. It doesn't make any sense to me to let it continue. There's a differnce between punishing a criminal beacuse they were misbehaving and being just plain cruel and from what I can remember I don't think that prisoner did anything to deserve that beating.

Personally, I stop the beating, whether I'm a paragon or renegade, and would stop it if I ever played neutral (but I don't 'cause it's just not worth it.)

My reasoning:

Paragon: theres a justice system for a reason. Throw him in solitary if he hurts another prisoner, but don't beat/torture him. This beating is born of the selfish motivations of the warden, and isn't really doing any justice.

Renegade: first of all, Shepard has likely been responsible for the end of WAY more lives than 'Bimmy' ever has or ever will, especially a renegade Shepard, so it would be hypocritical of Shepard to allow the beatings to continue on the grounds that Bimmy is a murderer. Secondly, renegade Shepard seems like a very 'hands-on' type of person, and would probably feel that, if the warden has a problem with the prisoner and wants them beaten, he should do it himself.

I'll just sidestep the flame war discussion and answer the question. As most of the posters have been saying, it really depends on my Shepard.

If it's Elena, she'll stop the guard immediately. She believes that such treatment is inhumane, even if the person in question happens to be a murderer.

If it's Gideon, he'll intimidate the guy into stopping, because he doesn't have time for that kind of crap.

Finally, if it's Kai, she'll do nothing because she believes that justice is being served.

Don't you just love RPGs? :P
