It completely depends on the story of the character. I like to play them all if the backstory is good. My opinion of the origins in DA:O was that the elves were lacking in entertainment value; but, the human noble, dwarf noble, and mage were awesome with dwarf commoner being not quite as good but better than the elf origins. The city elf origin felt too much like elven Braveheart to me and the Dalish was just kinda meh.
If you had to choose one race to play as in DA2....

Qunari hands down.
Yeah. I wish that we got a DA game set in Par Vollen - now that would be awesome. Hopefully we get a large expansion like Mask of the Betrayer at least. In the really play-it-safe world of the game industry, I don't think it would be easy to release a full game set in a really bizarre, interesting place like Par Vollen because it wouldn't be seen as a money maker.
+1
You read my mind. I'd die to be able to see the Qunari lands. It would be cool if we could do it with our DA:O character too, recruting some Qunari Wardens

If I had a choice of three, I'd choose elf.
But if there could only be one race, I'd actually go with Bioware and say human. It's the baseline.

Human is best unless the setting and story demanded something different.

I would go with human...I like them best they are not super skinny too tall too short or ugly...unless you make them ugly.
I usually go for human, so the only reason I'm disappointed with Hawke only being human is the limits on replayability. I still have origins to explore with DA:O. But in general, I'm not bothered by having to play a human.

Human, I like to play a nonjerky one

Human. I understand how to role-play that race the best, for obvious reasons.

Dwarf. Absolutely. Dwarves are the coolest and most interesting of all. You should be able to make an attractive male dwarf, though. It was too hard to make a good dwarf-dude face in DAO. And you should be allowed to be taller or shorter than the average dwarf by a small margin, or something like that... in the first game they couldn't get so complex with builds, but maybe in future games that will change.
I'd prefer anything to human, just because it's hardly interesting roleplay to be what you already are. But I guess it's a compromise. Hopefully we won't mind playing human once we actually sit down to start DA2.

Dwarf. Or elf. Even a Qunari. But never a dull, dull human.

Nature spirit/Werewolf. Barring that, Elf. Anything but a human. Why have a fantasy genre filled with races, monsters, fables, and otherworldly happenings... only to be what you are in real life?

Human here too. I wouldn't mind playing an elf, but for some reason I never pick dwarf when given the choice.

I don't mind being a human, but to be playing as a Qunari would be nice, since they left that out from Origins.
