Hmm, I hadn't heard it was Women's Day till an hour or so ago, the day is a little eclipsed by Pancake Tuesday here. :) To all the strong ladies, real and virtual, around us:

EDIT: Um, I've already posted an image, but have another ToP April pic:

Cheers! It's women's day and laskiaistiistai (=Shrove Tuesday) today.

I barely remember my birthday and have to check my name day on calendar... And yes, I don't even remember my parents birthdays. So if my (future) girlfriend ever finds this post, I'm sorry that I most likely missed every possible special day (let alone your phone number...).

Wow, I must say I'm quite shocked that a few of you have never heard of 8th of March being the International Women's Day. Where I grew up it was really a day to acknowledge the women who struggled to give us the rights we Western women have today (e.g. The right to vote, the right to education etc). It was also, and that's what I feel is more important, a day to acknowledge the women in less fortunate countries that are opressed but still manage to do a lot for their community. Anyway, have a femShep

Methinks we really need an: "I am Shepard, hear me roar" poster right now. Could be Batman Returns on TV putting ideas in my head, though.

And hey, if nothing else it'd upset the youtube kiddies

I have to say, the story behind the installation of International Women's Day sounds awfully apocryphal to me.  If these supposed factory owners were so greedy that they wouldn't bat an eye at murduring their workers,I can't reconcile them costing themselves an immense mount of money to do so by burning down their own factory... that seems rather, shall we say, counterproductive.  That, and the fact that it's a big thing with Communist blocs especially, makes me think the story is fabricated.

Not to say I'm against the idea of a Women's Day, lord knows there still far too many places on this miserable planet where women are treated as chattel.  Anyone who I count among my close friends knows the rage and pain I feel whenever I hear about women in Muslim countries who are stoned for the crime of being rape victims, or other similar atrocities.  Nevertheless, given its political past, I suspect this holiday is based on a prevarication.

If that is the case, hopefully it's transcended that origin.  It would be nice if it got more recognition, as a legitimate day of respect and admiration for women, and especially as a rallying point for increasing efforts to destroy the cultural structures the world over which dictate that women be abused and violated as a matter of course.

@Sable: Actually the International Women's Day was inspired by America's National Women's Day and the idea was approved by the Socialist International meet in Denmark 1910. The factory fire happened a week after the first International Women's Day:

"Not even a week after the first International Women's Day, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire killed 146, mostly young immigrant women, in New York City. That incident inspired many changes in industrial working conditions, and the memory of those who died has been often invoked as part of International Women's Days from that point on."

And if BSN hadn't been so laggy I would've posted a fem Shep to keep it on topic. But eh, strong women = Fem Shep so yay?

Lynn's Adventure of Jarrahe Station. . .

Jarrahe Station Form A Line
Image IPB
Lynn: "Mordin, I wouldn't worry about forming a line here. . ."

(It's details like these that provide mood to various scenes I think! I had to 'lighten' the photo somewhat so it's a bit more visual!)

Jarrahe Station Medical Bay
Image IPB
Lynn: "Swell, just what I need. . . A map saying you are here in the medical bay." *sighs* "Dispite the fact it says medical bay right behind me!"

(I think Lynn's reaction to the map and the 'You are here' would be normal for her! I only wish the station was larger. Space stations like these with view ports / skyscreens have huge potential for aw inspiring views, especially since the station is orbiting a planet!)

SHODAN?
Image IPB
Lynn: "Great another rogue VI. . . I wonder if this is related to the rogue VI on the Moon Base?"

(I always wondered if one of the programmers at BioWare has a fondness of the old System Shock games or not.)
Oh and for those of you who don't know who SHODAN is . . . Check out these two sites. . .
shodan.fi/     And this YouTube recording. . . (It's from System Shock 2) www.youtube.com/watch

Take care out there Ladies!

Goodwood is glad that folks like his cover image. He can make different Badass Weekly covers for various users' FemSheps if they'd like them.
