Didn't expect the VS in Arrival as they didn't mention him/her in the announcement. So i'm not really disappointed. I'd rather have a big role for them in ME3 than just a small appearance here. I guess after Horizon there is more time needed for them than just a DLC.
But i think it's refreshing to see Shep act alone for a mission.. just as many Spectres do.

Just to reinterate what others have said: I know spoilers are allowed in here, but please stop posting info about Arrival! If you want to read previews and the like, go for it, but I don't want to and I don't really want to have to avoid this thread for the best part of a week.

I've been avoiding the forums slightly in wait of Arrival, but I can't really say I am surprised the VS has no part in this DLC. I imagine they will be built quite heavily into the early stages of ME3.

i do not want to hear any more Arrival spoilers, and i will just say this and then back out of the discussion:
I'm not surprised about the VS not being in Arrival. in all truth, i'm a little relieved. an achievement like "The Ultimate Sacrifice" is one I want kaidan or ashley to stay FAR away from. I'm so leery of how kaidan or ashley's story is going to turn out, I'd prefer the VS shows up in ME3 as someone you cannot avoid, whom you MUST work with, and their total awesomeness comes shining through as they save the day with guns (and biotics, in kaidan's place) blazing. Then all the haters can go cram it up their... <_< Ahem.
And excuse me, for being so vocal about it, but i am not amused by kaidan/ashley hate. i found it childishness when ME1 came out, absurd when ME2 came out, and have only been increasingly disgusted by it as time goes on. there are characters i like less well than others, but to suggest killing a fictional character - a marine in service, dedicate to protecting innocent lives - for being honest, doing their job, and holding to their principles is highly disturbing to me. even in joking, i find it in poor taste.

I'm not making any judgements until I play the DLC myself. I also find people's disappointment quite pre-mature. I mean, that IGN article doesn't really tell me anything worthwhile. And the lady only played the first part.
I don't want to spoil myself on any of it, so I didn't read the second page. Anyway, I'm still pretty excited to play it and experience a new story for my FemSheps. I know people are frustrated about the VS, I am too, but have you ever heard the expression "they're saving the best for last?"
Kaidan and Ashley will have their time. I am confident of that. What can I say, I'm an optimist.
Anyway, my FemSheps are locked and loaded. Who needs backup with this much awesome?

I'm afraid I've joined with Chignon and her unrelenting pessemism. Mac Walters seems to hate the VS (especially Ashley since her writer was fired for ME2) I predict Ashley will be thrown into a reaper while Shep is railroaded into saying "Oh well" Kallen still cannot be reached for Comment...ah I've recieved a Message from Miranda saying that she's taking out her frustrations on Grunt who is enjoying the punihsment.

What I'm trying to say is that this could still be a fun add-on, and that people should give it a chance. I'm trying to look at the bright side of things.
