Did you really expect Jacob to be a popular alternate LI choice for people's femshep, AD? =]

I've never done the Jacob romance with any of my Shepards, (and never will) as that opening line just kills it for me. As Shenzi said, it's the way Hale says the; "I'm more interested in talking for a bit." line. The tone of her voice implies she's after him, (or at least that's how it sounds to me) regardless of if that was the players intention or not. I don't even bother speaking to him, apart from triggering his loyalty mission, purely because of the way that opening line is delivered. It just doesn't fit with my Shepard's personality for her to talk to him like that.

As for working with Cerberus. If I could tell TIMmeh to do one right from the off, I would. The fact Shepard just agrees to work with them so readily after everything she knows they've done makes her come across as gullible. Especially if your Shepard has the sole survivor background.

honestly no but I expected more than"I hate how Hale talks to him" that's has nothing to do with his character and everything about Femshep. But I guess romancing Jacob is an aquired taste.Image IPB

All of Shep's backstories besides Spacer generally have some trauma in them already. Either grew up with no family running with gangs, or, whole family gets murdered by Batarian slavers. Then there is what we tack onto it for our own personal stories. The only reason there isn't additional backstory for biotic shephard is because it's written with 'default' in mind. The ONLY time I've seen an NPC react to Shephard being Biotic is in ME1 when Kaiden says that he hasn't switched to the L3 implants because the L2's spike higher, though not as high as Shephard of course.

Seriously, Jacob would have been MUCH better, not being a biotic.

Also, anyone annoyed that they have to change their armor based on the Archon Visor? That thing is soooo ugly, but I can't not use the 5% power recharge... Energy Drain just is a timer hog for my vanguard.

@ AD: i don't mean tortured or jaded, just that they all have some acknowledgement of the fact that they're different. even biotic shepard gets this a little in passing comments from kaidan (well, i never got it, but that's cause i always did the romance). jacob makes no nevermind about it at all. given how deeply it factors into every other human biotic's story, i find that just weird. i would be like running into a krogan who's like "huh, genophage? what was...oh, yeah, i heard about that back in krant school once."

You do run into one of those, his name is Grunt XD
but in all seriousness,it probably didn't make that big a dela in Jacob's life he's a family service guy like Ashley and the things that happned around him matter more than his biotics. He survived Eden Prime and savedthe council from terrorists for petes sake. that> oh biotics makes me different, to me at least.Image IPB  My shepard's respect the fact that he doesn't want them to fix him. Kallen even says "about time" when he bucks her back about his father but then again she's pretty much the female version of meImage IPB

Hey I ain't complainin' about Jacob...I love an LI whom everybody calls a wussy whiner...but I still can't wait to have my kaibear back.

Point is...let's just drop it, not all of us love the same LI, not all of us even like the same characters or for the same reasons and that's the beauty of it all!

Very true,  guess we can add this to the list of things were helpless to prevent

- Being grounded by the Council and almost having your mission crushed.  Thankfully your LI and Anderson come to your rescue.

- Suprise attack from Collectors. Seeing your beloved spaceship get destroy and some crew dieing. Then you yourself get spaced and die from asphyxiation

- Talking to Jacob

:?   :P

lol. I remember talking with Jacob and seeing Shepard's "playful" attitude and corporal language as she said goodbye. Once it was over, I was like oookkkaaaayyyy...? let's...not...go to that room ever again. I totally didn't see it coming.

I have Jacob as my LI. I felt it was actually a relief for my Shepard to have an LI who wasn't a mope. After what she went through dying and being resurrected, she comes to realize that she needs to feel human again, have a LITTLE bit of fun on this serious, dire mission, and maybe start making plans for settling down after it is all over (presumably post-ME3). I should also add that my Shepard turned down Liara and Kaidan because she was deadset on defeating Saren with no distractions or ship drama, and was always typically too caught up in her profession to want to pursue romances, anyway (I don't think she was above the occasional fling every now and then, though). In particular, losing Kaidan on Virmire--even though she wasn't super-attracted to him--did cause her to wonder what she could have missed out on if she wasn't so stand-offish and the mission went differently. This is sort of what was on my mind for my character as the games progressed.

Anyway, the romance with Jacob seemed to be of the right type for me, and also started at the right time. After first being distrustful of Jacob a bit in the beginning, later realizing what good character he possesses by talking to him about his past and his feelings about Cerberus, to finally feeling a growing compassion for and connection to him after witnessing him confront his father and take the higher ground... she started to pursue him.

I like the idea that Shep is the alpha in the romantic pursuit. Would I have held back a little on the flirty voice? Sure. But overall it worked nicely for my conception of her. Just wanted to add this, since the Jacob romance is the scourge of Mass Effect fandom, and I hope that doesn't make Bioware leave out or unduly minimize Jacob in the next installment.

Heh... It's funny. Like just about everyone else here, I was really annoyed with femShep's tone when I first talked to Jacob. I ended up doing 2 or 3 play-throughs without talking to him at all (I had done part of a default maleShep play-through and talked to him, so I knew some of his story) because of the flirty tone. But on later play-throughs I just decided to ignore how she was speaking and fill in her words and tone from my own imagination, and I got to know Jacob.

Now, none of my femSheps want to pursue him as an LI, but they have all come to like him as a friend and comrade. Jacob might not be the most exciting character in the universe, but he seems to be one of the most stable, psychologically balanced, reliable, and trustable characters. Personality-wise, he is probably the only human NPC that I really really trust to have at my back (cue the hate from the Ash/Kaidan lovers; I don't hate those characters; I actually like them a lot, but I find Jacob more trustable and trustworthy. JMHO). So, Jacob is alright in my book, even though the priiize is reserved for Liara.
;)

Anyway, meet my new femShep, (mostly) same as my old femShep. Identical physical features, different classes. My next new femShep will be like totally different. She'll have brown eyes. :P

Commander Athene Shepard
Vanguard, Colonist, Sole-survivor
Like the Greek goddess, she is more about thinking her way out of situations than just spoiling for a fight. But, like the goddess, she is perfectly comfortable donning her armor and going to complete and total war when necessary. And, like the goddess, her eyes are grey (well, the lightest grey/blue, which is as close as the game allows). Her parents named her Athene when she was born because of her eyes. Living up to such a name is something she has done on her own through her life.

Obligatory Portrait style shot: Grey-eyed Athene

All shots from ME1, because she hasn't made it into ME2 yet.
(minus the tech. abilities, you can essentially treat all previous shots of Artemis as Athene. The next femShep will either be Artemis re-born with proper brown eyes, or 'Atalanta' if I decide not to replace Artemis)

Wow, I haven't poked my head in here in a while.  Just wanted to pop in and say YAY FOR FEMSHEP!  I'm excited that FemShep can dust herself off for some more adventures on Tuesday.  (That's assuming she can drag herself away from Dragon Age 2 for that long, lol.)

Oh, and by the way, no disrespect intended towards Kasumi with this. She's my other favorite human NPC. There is plenty of trust with her, but there is a very different feeling (even beyond simple gender differences) of the trust with her compared to Jacob.

Jacob is like the rock you cling to when the storm threatens to sweep you away. Kasumi is the angel that picks you up and carries you above the storm, all the while making you feel like the storm was actually good fun. Or something like that.

Image IPB
Also she can drive really good and doesn't afraid of anything.
;)

(keep in mind, I'm only talking about humans here, not making any comparisons with the alien NPCs, and not intending to sound like my femShep's trust is exclusive to these characters alone)

My honest opinion is that I feel like I'm watching an extremely cheesy soap opera whenever FemShep talks to Jacob. Both of my FemSheps are lezzies, not cougars in heat for their next prey but I've learned to block out the silliness of it all. Much like I have to do with a lot of things in ME2.

Shameless plug of my Shai & Liara music vid. It's been here before but I only have 200ish views and I worked quite hard on it. Need moar views. 0-: p

Wow, five pages in one day.  Seems that the femShep thread has recovered from the Dragon Age 2 doldrums with a vengeance.  About time, I say!

Jessica says so too.

Come to think of it, it's been a while since Jessica's put  in an appearance, too.  So without further ado:

Agree with the majority opinion on the strangeness of the Jacob lines, the fact that it seems to come out of nowhere. They totally nailed it with Kaidan, you could feel something there but it wasn't overt.

By the way, there's a question I have about flycam and getting good shots, and this pic illustrates it. Figured I'd ask it here because a lot of you are REALLY GOOD at getting great pics from the game, and 1.) I don't think it's really worth it's own thread, and 2.) it's on topic because I pretty much only play with a femShep so all screenshots would be of her. Also, my apologies if this has already been answered somewhere in the first 1000 pages of the thread.

See? I'm a biotic!

Whenever I use certain biotics, it has a warping effect on the camera shot. This makes sense in the normal over the shoulder view, but when I go to fly-cam, the warping effect is still there, no matter how far I am from my character. So, when I take a picture, it looks like it's being taken through a barrier curtain. Is there any way to avoid this and get good crisp shots of biotic action in ME1?

I haven't tried going to fly-cam before doing the action, because I'm still getting used to the idea of targeting and shooting/using powers while in fly-cam, but perhaps that would work*? Any of you more experienced Mass Effect 'photographers' have any advice?

*I only just started trying to take advantage of that and managed to get some cool shots with exploding backgrounds from fuel tanks. You can see them in the ME1 screenshots link in my signature. :)

@Interactive Civilian:

I think it just comes down to timing. If you have a key bound to the 'playersonly' command you can pause and unpause the game quickly to let the screen effect fade out. They don't tend to last that long anyway. Of course they do come in handy and you can get some really nice shots because of the warping effect.

Image IPB

Saying that I'm not that clued up on editing the ini file. I can add key bindings and extra casual outfits and armour but anything else I have no idea. If it's possible to disable the fullscreen effects from the biotic skills the 'modding is possible' thread might be your best bet.

Very nice. Beautiful Shepard and great expression - she looks like she's on the cover of a novel or game box, en route to kick some ass.
