Yup.  She's talkin to your girl, Ashley!! :wizard:

It's her reverse-engineered face.  I prefer her ME2 face so I used this website to get the sliders for her and then I get to play with the Shepard face I adore!  : )

Well, she looks great!

I love it! <3

I wouldn't be able to do that though... cause I have modded textures and what not.
The FemShep I made before I modded has no eyebrows and I didn't customize her face... so my FemShep would be fugly if I did a reverse-engineer job. lol

I'm
actually curious about one thing. What do you femShep players think
about male action heroes who're more like manShep? Game heroes such as
Marcus and his buddy Dominic in Gears of War, or Splintercell with our
good old Sam Fisher. Or God of War with our big friend Kratos. Or Agent
47 from good old Hitman?

Okay, ofcourse all the examples that I gave are not a lot like manShep, but you get the general idea me thinks. :)

I liked Agent 47 in the older Hitman games, but I liked him because he was an homage to a specific type of character, he wasn't trying to say that said stereotype was zomg!awesome.

I don't like the Gears of War guys, because they're jocks that come at a mile a minute. You've seen them before, you've seen them done better and you've seen them in gameworlds that are aesthetically more pleasing than the constant shade of grey. They and the game they're in is just wholly uninteresting to me. The same goes for Sam Fisher - he's an archetype that wants you to take him seriously and it just comes across as way too forced for my tastes.

One male character I do like, however - is Snake from the Metal Gear series. He's a total action stereotype 90% of the time - but the difference is that the game actively draws attention to this and frequently has his attitude land him in trouble. There's plenty of times while playing that series where I wanted to hurl my controller at the screen and tell Snake to stop being such a damn actionhero and use his brain! It's only at the end of MGS4 where Snake is freed from the "burden" of being the hero that he manages to get out and enjoy the time he has left.

The reason I dislike Sheploo is also because he's too clear cut. He's a poster boy in every sense of the word and I just find that look completely uninteresting. Again, because BioWare insists that he be taken seriously. The VO performance doesn't help, I really think it's a waste of Mark Meer's talent to have him do a monotonous space marine when he's so good with self-ironic humor (seriously, that Bible Speech he gives on Improv is awesome).

So why do I like femShep? Well because she's none of that. As odd as it sounds, the very design choices that makes Sheploo and so many other male action heroes uninteresting to me makes femShep interesting. Because for once, a game heroine emerges that doesn't take a backseat to anything and who isn't hypersexualized. The fact that Jennifer Hale manages to imbue her with enough personal quirks to make her feel like a fully developed character in her own right only strengthens my like of the character. There's still a disconnect between myself and the character, but with femShep I don't mind so much as she was never supposed to be a representation of me (at least that's how I see it as a male gamer).

Luc0s wrote...

No I really didn't. I said from the beginning that I realize that not all femShep players are typical teenage boys, but some are. Just like about any cult or group has a few wacko's. It's just that the whole "I'd do my own femShep"-thing kinda creeped me out. But sure, no hard feelings. Lets call it even.

See this is the problem with the internet. You can't post the twinkle in your eye or the smirk you have when you're writing it. For a lot of people I don't think that question was taken literally - I answered it more like: "Would you be interested in a woman with those attributes, should you meet her?"

To which I answered yes *shrug*

Samara and Shepard Plan by Badspot

Alright, people. I did not create this thread to discuss your favorite male action heroes or to talk about Sheploo. This is not his fan thread. This fan thread was created to discuss ways of implementing more FemShep recognition, her role, and her voice actress. Try to keep it on topic of her. I know it's inevitable to compare MaleShep vs FemShep but please keep it civil.

Thank you. ;)

I think Commander Shepard's role in general is "a waste of talent" for both Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale.
Mark Meer was a little monotonous at times as Shepard, but so was Jennifer Hale.
I do think Mark Meer is a little derpy as Paragon Shepard sometimes. But then again I also find it hard to take Renegade femShep seriously. I think Mark and Jennifer both have their pro's and con's and both could improve their voice-acting as Commander Shepard.

Sorry, ryn - I had a femShep point to make there, even if it took me awhile to get to it ;)

So on a different topic - how stoic do you folks usually think your femSheps are? Much of the stuff in-game leads to the impression that she rarely does anything asides from work so...what's your femShep do in her downtime?

Mine spends way too much time building those model-ship kits and obsessing over all the lecherous looks she got when she walked back onto the Normandy in that little black dress. She also secretly loves Kasumi for having the guts to not just go "yes, Commander" to everything she does

Uhm gee - where to begin. I actually have a femShep for all those options XD
I liked Kaidan and Garrus all the way back from ME1 when I started out as a maleShep. Kaidan always struck me as a good friend and trusted adviser - the kinda guy who'd have your back as you walked through fire. That got a whole 'nother dimension when I tried playing femShep - but I like him for the same reasons, he's a nice guy who doesn't have a Terrible Secret, he had a rough childhood but it doesn't rule him completely and femShep didn't need to "fix" him, which was nice.

Garrus always reminded me of Detective Popeye (Gene Hackman) from "The French Connection", he's basically out to do good but he's gotten lost in the rough methods of those he pursues. You basically have to remind him why he has his job, to help the innocent not go off in a mad quest to punish every villain he finds. Come ME2 that has been flipped on its head with him being the Space Batman of Omega and the reminder has to be made yet again. In this case, femShep just wants to save him from that dark core within himself before he gets himself killed - and one thing leads to another...

Thane...oh boy. It started out as just professional courtesy, but between the voice, the entrance and the fact that there's a lot more to him than meets the eye just kept her coming back. As a Spacer who didn't see her family much, the fact that Thane was willing to go through the lenghts he went to in order to save Kolyat really touched her. The fact that she could let down the Commander facade when she came to check in on him just grew to becoming something more than merely checking in. (This is probably my personal favorite of the ME2 romances - because femShep gets to be strong, feminine and supportive without it becoming awkward or out of character.)

Well, there ya go :)

My femshep didn't find any of the ME2 romances interesting enough, so she was forced to stay "loyal" to Liara. It seems like BW wanted a dark and edgy Liara in ME2, but my characters don't fall for that. I am trying to find a way to end that LI and I hope the upcoming LotSB DLC can do that. ;)

Nice!  I really liked reading about your FemShep and Thane.  This is the one ME2 romance I am looking forward to trying.  It just sucks that he is dying but it adds more emotion and drama to the romance which I like.

Ouch.  Poor Liara. :(  I am the complete opposite and am eagerly looking forward to taking down the Shadow Broker with Liara by my side.  Hopefully there will be some romance dialouge.  I want to be able to comfort her after everything she has been through.

Heh!

When Kathryn gets some rare downtime, she either plays guitar or surfs the extranet.  Whenever she feels lonely, she'll play the songs she used to sing to Liara back on the SR1.  Yeah, I know she's a softie but she's lovable!!  Posted Image  While surfing the extrawebz, she likes to keep updated on current events and even has a guilty pleasure of reading the tabloids.  She's always amused whenever rumors are spread about her.  Oh and she's been writing and re-writing an email to Liara but she just hasn't got the courage to send it to her yet.

It took my Shepard a while to get past the fact that he was a biotic, but she came to appreciate Kaidan for his dependability.  Plus he has a sense of humor, can hold his own in a fight, and knows the value of incendiary explosives in cold weather.  Besides, he's cute when he's flustered.  ^_^

Oh, does she not like Biotics or something?  What class is she?  My canon is a soldier who has no biotic talent or skills with any kinds of tech...lol.  She lets her squadmates handle all of that.  ^_^

Pure soldier, biotic-less and tech illiterate.  She dislikes biotics due to a combination of bad experiences and a natural inclination to dislike any dangerous factor that she can't see (which works double for biotics, since you might not know who is a biotic and who is not, and who is a crazy biotic and who is not - and she seems to have an irrational fear of insanity in general, which really doesn't help).

She got a little more tolerant by the end of the first game; it might have helped a bit that Kaidan and Liara had Saren perpetually Lifted off the ground and tossed around to the extent that she didn't have to do anything for the entire fight.  :innocent:

hi fire! *waves*

(i am coming out of lurking from the kaidan thread.)

on a different note than fire, i played an adept (yes, i do, my unexpected favorite), who found the other biotic on the ship a dependable squaddie. the fact that he's sweet when flustered, offers his help and advice through the mission, and is easy on the eyes had her rethinking the whole subordinate thing. come ilos, she was pretty well smitten. she's staying true because she hates cerberus, too, and didn't like horizon, but feels kaidan had a point, she's too busy with her mission to go jumping somebody else, and just not really in to casual flings anyhow.

re: playing femshep through the kaidan romance, though, i have to admit that i didn't like him at first. some of the dialog options i do not like the way kaidan comes across - either very insecure or awkward but not in a good way. kaidan is a char who very much bases his interactions with shep on what she says to him. he can show very different sides depending on what shep says, does, and even depending upon who you bring along on missions (with tali or ashley, he comes off as confident and a bit of the badass veteran biotic. if you have wrex in the party, kaidan tends to come off sounding like some battle newb). on my main, i seemed to hit a sort of 'golden path' in my mind for both what he says and what shep says throughout the whole game.

there's some really great unique-to-femshep dialog with kaidan, and i really liked that. most notably, i loved the post-eden-prime discussion of shep's past. other than liara, he's the only person who bothers to ask. sweet, that.

anyhow, kaidan ended up being my favorite LI because the relationship seemed to slowly form over the course of the game, starting in interest and friendship both, then growing into something more. i really liked the dialogs there, and missed that a lot in me2.

Both Kaidan and Thane happen to be two of my absolute favourite Mass Effect characters. If I weren't so loyal to Liara, I would definitely try their respective romances as they're both very sweet, charming and caring guys. FemShep has excellent romance options, IMO.

Right! Well back when I first started playing ME, I always romanced Kai, one because of the voice and 2: He's awesome without throwing chest pounding in your face. Or ME HEMAN!! sterotype that plagues some other games....GOW...*cough* Course the gears guys got some characterization when K. Traviss started writing books but I digress. It took awhile (3 playthrus) for me to wonder hmmm, lets see what content Im missing since I never had ash live before. Thing is I didnt like the idea of my Shep being all alone so femshep number 4, Kurau, went with Liara. Suprisingly enough I found Liara to be funny at times. To be honest before that playthru I didnt even talk to Liara much beyond plot points. The characters kinda grew on me after afew playthrus.

I still find it creepy to have Tali as a LI for Maleshep. Garrus is meh, hes more of a bro to my femsheps, Thane.....trippy but not LI material for my playthrus. Cool guy to talk with though. Aaaaandd Jacob....hehe, well no romance for you but Ill take him up on that offer for drinks on the citidel.

Actually now that I think about it, for my 2 femshep playthrus going thru the whole trilogy, this is the gist if they see people from ME1/2 into the 3rd.

Snuggles/Huggle Glomp: Kaidan, Liara

Brofist: Ash, Mordin, Thane, Wrex, Legion, Samera, Kasumi, Zaeed (suprising for me)

Sent to Kelly: Miri, Jacob, Joker, EDI (work out your unrequited looooveee!!)

Krogan Head Smash: Wrex, Grunt WOOOO! When Krogans attack part 10 1/2!

Points to C Sec: GOSH DARNIT GARRUS!! I paragoned you in both games, get back there and quit ****in!

Hands Flame Shield to Tali: She's gonna need it methinks. :P

I'm tend to want to role play my characters, and my main Shepard really fits well with my chosen LI.  (Ahem.)

Funnily enough, although I would have stayed "faithful" no matter what, I think that having no romance in ME2 has enhanced the backstory for my Shepard...working for Cerberus, despite the shiny new ship and enthusiastic crew, is not something she is happy about, at all, and being raised from the dead has left her jaded and depressed.  So, while as a player, I would have liked to have a romance scene and cuddlemate after the suicide mission, as a roleplayer, it made sense for Gwen Shepard to feel alienated and alone at this time, even though she trusts and cares about her team.  Part of her, though, is still with the Alliance, and her heart is still with the dude who turned his back on her on Horizon.  Angst!
